50 Cent: ‘Nas Isn’t Hot Anymore’

Published: Tuesday 17th Jul 2007 by Sam
50 Cent is running his mouth again, this time about fellow rapper Nas. Speaking to XXL magazine, 50 had the following to say about the ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ rapper:

You have different kinds of people. You have people that are extremely book smart that lack common sense so they don’t know what’s going to affect their audience. They have more information than me based on reading. For instance, Nas is a really smart guy. He reads books constantly. We were around him on the Nastradamus tour. He was almost weirder than me ’cause we would go to breakfast and he’d be there reading a book. Conceptually, I think that’s what made him drift away from what his initial audience enjoys from him and why he’s not hot right now.

Aside from the fact that Nas tops 50 in just about every way, shouldn’t the G-Unit leader be worrying about his own career? With the released material from 50’s upcoming ‘Curtis’ CD flopping all over the place, you’d think he’d look at himself first. I guess he thinks his tired routine of calling out other rappers to generate buzz will work this time. He doesn’t seem to get it – no one cares for his music anymore.

What do you think of 50’s comments?

F***** 50. He really should be worrying about his own stuff because at least Nas knows what hes talking about. And Nas is a legend in hip hop.. 50 just needs to stop talking. His words mean nothing anymore.

How about 50 release “Curtis” instead of pushing it back to Neveruary 2010.

So Nas isn’t cool and lost his audience because he reads books? 50 Cent gives hip hop a BAD NAME. As an African American and avid hip hop listener I am ashamed and offended that 50 is insuating that being educated and reading books is “weird” and that the hip hop audience would drift away from someone because Nas “reads books constantly.” I’m erasing 50 from my itunes library right now. And I’m gonna try to get my friend A.B. to stop listening to him.

You couldn’t have said it any better

I Don’t Think People Are Understanding 50’s Comments Correctly…He Isn’t Saying Reading Is Bad…Or That U Should Be Uneducated…The Guy Donated Millions Of Computers To Schools In The New York Area, In An Effort To Make Sure Students Had The Technology They Need To LEARN!!! Face It Nas Today Ain’t The Nas Of Yesterday…He Isn’t The Legend Anymore…His Music Has Fallen Off…Hip-Hop Ain’t Dead, Unless U Listen To The Snap And Rock Wit It Crap…I Personally Feel Nas Just Has Lost His Ability To Relate…He Can Read All He Wants But If He Is Unable To Relate To Everyone’s Ears It Is Ineffective…Even With All This, 50 Cent Himself Is A Well Read And Intelligent Individual…But Even He Has Lost His Ability To Relate To His Audience…I Hope Both Artists Can Return To Their Legendary Status, And Help Revive Hip-Hop, Like Other Artists Including The Likes Of Kanye, Chamillionaire, Common, Etc.

Ha! 50 cent is one to talk! He’s already released 4 singles and FOUR VIDEOS and his album isn’t even out yet… can you say desperate? He’s over.

I understand what 50 was trying to say. However, I think Nas moving away from the style of rap he use to do shows growth. I thought that is what you were suppose to do as an artist … be about the music and where it takes YOU and hope that there is an audience that feels the same way.

P.S. 50, a person can only rap about s**, cars, rims, bling, and women for so long before the audience become disinterested in you saying it … they’ed rather hear it from someone else … you’ll find yourself needed to move on to different subject matters … and that seems to be nearer than you think.

For any of you to not see the truth in this statement about Nas, you truly have Nas vision or anti 50 vision.
Nas is not hot, and has not been hot for a while. Did you miss the part where he said hip hop is dead while trying to sell more albums. That makes no sense!
Hip hop is evolving to what Nas and his fans always wanted it to be, a culture, a way of life, multi faceted and diverse. Kind of like Nas himself! I guess he is victim of his own words, he is not hard core, he is lyrical, he is thoughtful, and in most hip hop circles he would be called soft! but he is Nas so he gets a pass. I guess.

50 needs to go sit down somewhere! since when i growth something bad! he is saying that for all the dumb people who want to hear the same ish everyday! that’s why common, mos def, and nas can’t sell records. all people want to hear is the same ish with a different delivery! and hip hop is dead. jay z sealed the deal with that stupid song ‘show me what you got’ and 50 sealed the deal with dumber than rocks ‘amusement park’

I agree. I’ve been over 50 for a while. He’s just as wack as that crappy album he’s trying to shove down our throats.

When people hate on Hip-Hop and Rap, I always say listen to rappers like Nas…true hip-hop legends who know what the f*** they’re talking about.

50 is finished. Just like his boss, Eminem.

both hating on people who have more respect given to them that they’ll ever get in their life time.

50 needs to go back, listen to his album, and find a 4th song that could get him some publicity and hype and get people hyped up for his album release, because at the minute, NOBODY gives a damn.

    Fool

PS: If reading books makes you wierd, then every parent should be tellin’ their youngins to become a f*cking wierdo!

“Did you miss the part where he (Nas) said hip hop is dead while trying to sell more albums. That makes no sense!”

In responce to this that Darrell said, i dont have anti-50 or nas-vision, but i have respect for rappers who actually do something well for thier community, which is a part of the hip hop way of life. In the beginning, 50 WAS good in the game. He did have a huge impact on how hip hop changed. Before 50 was even heard of, legends like Nas where making cd’s like “Illmatic” which helped paved the way for hip hop, and for 50 himself to break out.

After the 50 impact, hip hop seemed to have a HUGEEE decline, everyone was rapping about money, cars, women (even tho this was happening before, it was now becoming more main-stream). With Nas’ cd “Hip Hop is Dead”, he was making a point saying hip hop has changed so much it is pointless to even try and be anything more than a rapper making a stupid beef track. We hear this even today with Timbaland thinking about not doing music anymore cuz its pointless. Nas’ opnions are a shitload more important than 50s’. 50’s time is over, as Nas’ maybe as well. But at least Nas was doing something for his community.

Yeah, i ranted, my bad. lol
