‘Thriller 25’ Shows Jackson’s Selling Power

Published: Thursday 14th Feb 2008 by Sam
Sales for Michael Jackson’s re-packaged ‘Thriller’ album are exceeding initial expectations:

JACKSON STEPS OUT: Early reports show Sony Legacy’s 25th anniversary re-release of Michael Jackson’s deluxe Thriller is overperforming, with a first-week sales prognosis that could put it in the 80-90k range, which would seemingly be good enough for a Top 5 bow.

If Thriller 25 goes on to sale up to 90k the 1st week in the USA considering it’s a re-release after 25 years and without any new videos or live performances,then i think that means MJ still has great sales potential with a brand new album.

If the music is hot and the brand new album leads off with a blockbuster single,i can still see MJ selling between 350-400k the 1st week in the USA and over 3 million total sales in the US. The key will be the lead single. It has to be hot and hopefully a soulful r&b style that relates to r&b and hip hop radio stations. {Source}

I’m really hoping Michael releases his new album this year. If anything, this shows there is a large audience awaiting him.

Do you think Michael can still sell records?

    Hell yeah.. when you can release an album after 25 years and it still claims a spot in the top 5 then you still have the ability to sell records. Michael will always be the number one evtertainer in the world.

    Of course he can!!! Without a doubt. I bought it the first day, and will buy anything thing Michael comes out with. I base my purchases on talent of the artist and Micheal is a true artist. I love him and his music. You go Mike. Get over your fears of performing publicly. You can do it with the love of it and of your fans!!!!!

    No one else but Mike could pull this off so this just goes to show that he STILL can sell records. Of course he’ll never be as big as he used to be, but he’s so talented and iconic that I believe people will always be at least somewhat interested in him and he has a big fanbase still. I CAN’T WAIT TILL THE NEW ALBUM COMES OUT!

    Michael Jackson is one of those legendary musicians and persons that will live forever in history. There many great artists, but only a select few leaves the kind of imprint on public history as Michael has. He is a household name in every country in the world. That is just how it is. People may like him or not. But very few deny his status. And that is not something that change. He is not a part of the kind of artists that has a few good years, and then fades away.

    He is a legend, an icon and he is that for a very good reason; his talents and the kind of person he is.
