Janet Jackson Readies New Single

Janet Jackson Readies New SingleAfter halting promotion for her latest LP ‘Discipline’ due to illness, Janet Jackson is set to release the next single from the set ‘Can’t Be Good’. Unlike previous single LUV which was only released to select formats on radio, ‘Can’t Be Good’ has a tentative radio ad date of June 9th – impacting all formats. {Source}

Whoever made the call for this must be smoking that good stuff, as this is a recipe for disaster IMO. With an album, Janet’s most promising in years, currently in free-fall on the charts, it’s hard to see the logic in releasing the most adult contemporary track on the record and hoping for a hit. Granted I’m not a fan of serving any old rubbish to radio in order to enjoy chart success, ‘Discipline’ genuinely possesses some surefire hits i.e. ‘LUV’, ‘The One’, ‘2 Nite’, as well as the title track.
In any case, with several sources confirming that Def Jam are looking to refocus their efforts on promoting her upcoming tour as a means of selling the album, I’m hopeful that things begin to pick up soon.

Any thoughts?

Who is choosing her singles? Rock With You and Can’t Be Good! Why isn’t she releasing the best material from this cd. i.e LUV, The One, 2Nite or the Greatest X

Bad single choose. Janet should release LUV, 2Nite and The 1. I hope she starts to promote because her new album doesn’t deserve to be called a flop.

Poor choice of single,I feel like the project has lost its fire. I wonder who is behind this single choice I strongly believe that Janet should push for her project harder or tour ASAP so that the album can pick up. She can even go back and forth with her team at Def Jam like MC did for TMB and look at the results.

Sam I literaly LMAO when you said ‘they must be smoking that good stuff.” LMAO!

I agree though. I think they should release a summer time song like “What’s Ur Name”. It has sucah a summer feel! It would do great.

I’m pretty sure they chose an AC single because they feel that Janet is no longer popular with the youth. They’re going to target people who liked her in the 80’s and 90’s.

    poor choice.

Janet isn’t signed to Def Jam.

    She is signed to Island.

They are two different record labels.

I love the song. I am glad she did some mature sounding work on this album, as opposed to MC.

Yeah i told people this album was doomed… just like i told them for 20YO… JUST LIKE I TOLD THEM for Damita Jo. Nobody believed me.

They should have pushed for “Luv” asthe second single instead of trying to shop around both “Luv” AND “Rock With U” as a double A-side. Whatever though, if they’re not going ot promote Janet Jackson, then what’s the point of her even releasing albums? IT ruins her legacy.

There could have been any number of singles from this album:

    “Feedback”
    “Luv”
    “The 1”
    “What’s Your Name”
    “Rock With U”

Island and Def Jam r the same label, in most cases its known as the Island Def Jam Music Group.

    2NITE

She need to just go ahead and promote the whole cd….every song cause they are all worthy of a chance……Im really feeling all of the songs MOSTLY Rollercoaster, Can’t Be Good, and Whats your name would definitely bring the summer in right.

WTF IS WRONG WITH HER, OR THE LABEL, DO THEY JUST NOT CARE ABOUT SALES, SHE WANTS A TOUR OFF OF SUBPAR TO NO SALES???

LUV, ROLLERCOAST, 2NITE, THE 1, GREAT LIKE EVVERYONE SAID, WHAT’S YOUR NAME IS SOOO F*****’ SUMMER, ANOTHER POSTER PUT THAT I WAS LIKE OOH YEA IT IS!!

DOES SHE THINK SHE’S JUST GOING TO GET SALES, AFTER A WHILE PEOPLE STOP CARING, I’M ABOUT TO GIVE UP ON HER, I BUY HER CD IN HOPES IT DOES WELL AND SHE OR THE LABEL F*** IT UP….AM I MISSING SOMETHING??

No disrespect to Miss Jackson, but “Can’t B Good” Couldn’t B A More Wrong Choice As A Single.

To begin, ballads do better during the winter months. Uptempo songs perform better during the summer. Def Jam has it backwards. That’s why a great song like “Feedback” couldn’t even make it to the Billboard top ten. If it were released in June, it would have been banging from every car and jeep from here to Alaska.

    Shame.

i think janet f***** her career up big time w/ the superbowl incident. after that she’s been weak in every aspect of her career. don’t get me wrong i’ve copped damita jo, 20 Y.O. and Discipline. however the public took too long to forgive her if they haven’t already and by then she lost her mojo with the public. i dunno what it is the album is fire she just aint poppin @ the mo. i can’t believe ppl are flockin for a wannabe whitey/mariah (leona) who got no talent and are ignorin janet. i hope she finds success with her next single and i like ‘can’t be good’ but more attention should’ve been given to Luv, that is tha business. oh well i can’t wait for her next video i love me some janet video’s, no one puts em out like her and her tour! she goin bring the heat.

    @ Alejandro ~dro~:
DO NOT hate on MC you can’t compare the 2 artists they’re both LEGENDS in their own right. dont hate on MC just cuz she finding more success than janet. this is a tricky business, u’r either loved one day or hated the next. janet was on her game all over her business in 2001 when MC was down in the gutter with glitter now its the other way around. i hope janet finds some success but dont be bashin up others especially when they are both incomparable in terms of music looks and fan base. MC’s new s*** does show some maturity as does Disciple but both albums have fun and nonsense songs on them as well. watch ur s*** and don’t it twisted you got MC/JJ stans on both ends.

Actually, what f***** up Janet’s career wasn’t the Superbowl. It was Rene Elizondo resigning as her creative director.

He would have certainly steered her away from pulling that titty stunt.

I have to say that I agree with just about everyone’s comments. It really does seem like the people posting are fans.

So here my 2 cents. 1.) Her image needs to be revamped, I think we want “homegirl” Janet. Janet became a diva because she was just her doin’ her thang. (adn what’s with all the ‘black’ she’s been wearing lately?) 2.)Music, the last few albums i think have, musically, put together wrong. Damita Jo became my second favortie album of hers, only after I reordered the tracklist(that worked again with Discipline) Also she needs to get mad or have something new/else to say. 3.) Better single choices like everyone has said. But I think the one single that would be unexpected would be “So Much Betta”. This song grew on me and it totally have that “You Want This” vibe of her just being the s***, – “You might need to jump on this” you better recongize!

I wonder if the Island is choosing these tracks (Rock Wit U, Can’t Be Good) just because Ne-Yo wrote them and they think that anything he pens is an instant hit. I sure hope not because even pretty boy can write a mediocre song, lol. Rock Wit U is still my favorite song tho 😉

  20. songbird April 21, 2008

rock wit you, feedback, and luv WERE released as singles. but forever reason weren’t promoted properly. luv was the only one with smash potential. all the rest on the album are mediocre.

  21. nickalus.randle April 21, 2008

I luv JANET wth ALL my heart, BUT she needs 2 hire a new team 4real, they r messin over her, is she NOT apart of the decision makn anymore? I luv the song, BUT its NOT strng enuff 2 get ths album bak on the charts-ITS SADDD, wats goin on peoples?!?!?!?

  22. Anonymous April 21, 2008

“Luv” is Fire!!!!!!!! That should be the next video no matter what the label says. At this point in her career, Janet needs to stand her ground & shoot the videos she wants to shoot. “Luv” is a guaranteed top 10 Hot 100 single.

  23. Robert Jones, Jr. April 21, 2008

“LUV” is not a guaranteed anything if radio doesn’t embrace it. And what radio has consistently shown is that they are unwiling to play Janet’s music, even if their listeners request it.

  24. Anonymous April 22, 2008

THIS IS WHAT U WOULD CALL DESPERATION, JANET SIT UR ASS DOWN & MAKE ANOTHER MOVIE, TAKE CARE OF UR ADOPTED DAUGHTER OR SOMETHING. UR A JOKE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS!!!

DISCIPLINE IS OVER, IT WAS OVER BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED.

“Island and Def Jam r the same label, in most cases its known as the Island Def Jam Music Group.”

No they are not. Island and Def Jam are two separate labels under the same umbrella. They’re two different labels.

BAD CHOICE FOR SINGLE. SHOULD HAVE BEEN “LUV” OR “GREATEST X”
