Diva Mariah Carey performed a set today on Good Morning America to promote her ‘E=MC²’ LP. During her rendition of ‘Touch My Body’ a technical slip-up occurred. To say things didn’t go as planned would be an understatement. Check it out:
On the one hand, I’m in hysterics, on the other I’m thinking, damn. Absolutely inexcusable. Here we have someone who is commonly referred to as one of music’s greatest voices, inadvertently exposed lip-synching on live television. SMH at Mariah asking her backing singers to stop singing her part, when it was obviously her pre-recorded backing track playing up. Knowing full well I’m probably volunteering myself to be ‘Lamb Stew’, this really was like watching the death of ‘The Voice’. I mean, come on now; when she tried reaching for the notes at the end she sounded like she’d been chewing on cigarette butts. A mess.

I’m confused – what happened exactly?
lip synching? It’s called GMA messed up the audio. Most notably in the beginning. What was that mess? I’m sorry, but Mariah doesn’t need a backing track for “Touch My Body” one of her EASIEST songs to sing live. And the “backing track” came in at the beginning for the verse… how does that make ANY sense? Are you saying Mariah couldn’t sing the whispery verse of “Touch My Body” lmfoa. It should have came in at the end… but *GASP* she sang the ending live like she has every time she actually sang it live.
AS WELL, she obviously sang every note of this concert live, you can tell. Her voice is very raspy.

Yeah like people said it was a minor glitch at the beginning of the song, she wasn’t lipsynching at all. She sand the high notes of bye bye and touch my body very well. And she did SING them because there were noticable differences. You can tell when she breathed in, you hear the breaths. Clutching at straws dude.

Huhhh, maybe it’s just me but I don’t really see what the big deal is. Yeah it’s definitely obvious that the first voice got messed up cause the backing track got screwed up, but she sang the rest of the song completely live and sounded pretty damn good I think.

Mariah does have playback track during her performance of Touch my body but she sings along with and it’s not through the whole song. You can obviously tell she was singing. At the end I think that she was unsatisfied with the situation and wanted to finish the song already. Plus she sang Bye Bye and That Chick and sounded GREAT. I saw the performance and I seriously doubt if she lipsync. I did not see the whole thing, but I thought she did a good job. I do sense this thing that Sam is alway looking when MC would slip up. You guys need to wake up! Mariah is not a performer anymore. I was just talkin to some friends and we all agree and wonder how she went from being a powerhouse performer to what she is now (mtv unlpugged, award shows, even shows like gma). She lip sings the whole part that u heard out of sync and then comes in with the “camera” part. and she has a few “pre-recorded” adlibs at the end. Have u all not seen the HILLS performance??? Proof that she has lost her performance swag. You also can tell when she’s lip syncing because she moves around the stage and has more energy. When she’s really singing she stands still like she’s in a box. She did this the whole last album, lip-syncing the bug endings on songs like we belong together and fly like a bird. Say what u want but u will only be in disbelief and fooling yourselves. She will always make good music and sell a lot of records, but ever since that breakdown she hasn’t been a good performer. I think it has given her some kind of anxiety and I hope she gets over it. Because when you are an established powerhouse, you do not need sub-par performances like this, and from what I’ve seen, that’s all she has been giving these last two eras. The last album rocked tho!
I just took the tech glitch as a little remixing…she was still adlibbing so she covered it up… BUT!!!! I’m sorry…I just can’t stand to watch her. From the “look at me, I’m trying so hard to be s***” to the “clothes are are bubble gum pop princess show everything and not age appropriate” to the “no energy when I’m on stage because I’m trying to look soooo s***…” Give me a break! Her voice is TOO NICE to just have all this nonsense going on. She needs to step up her style and step up her performances…bottom line for me.

I retract my first statement but stand by the rest – SHE MESSED UP THE BEGINNING OF THE SONG, but hey, it happens. It was good she kept adlibbing. Now!
