Fader Honors The Legacy Of Aaliyah

Fader Honors The Legacy Of AaliyahFader magazine pays tribute to the late Aaliyah in its annual Icon edition. The issue features contributions from both professional and personal friends.

“It only took Aaliyah a few albums to make an indelible mark on the world of pop music, but today her influence can be felt across numerous genres,” said Chris Richards, Executive Editor of The Fader. “This issue not only tracks that influence, but also offers a more personal glimpse into the life of a true pop visionary.”

Missy Elliott

“We was gonna save the world. We was gonna change music every chance we got. We was gonna always be family. Forever.”

Mark Ronson

“If it wasn’t for Aaliyah being the face and voice of [Missy Elliott and Timbaland’s] sound they might have never got to where they did. They were presenting their sort of brilliant but challenging breakthrough music through this beautiful young girl who could sing it perfectly.”

Kidada Jones

“I think about her all the time…Anytime she’s brought up or her music comes on the radio, it’s sweet, but it definitely sounds like she found a niche before it was here. If you listen to her music it’s so relevant today, but we had it so long ago.”

Damon Dash

“She was already a fashion icon, she was getting into movies, she had already planted that seed. If she was alive today she would be so relevant. I see little bits of her everywhere I look, in a lot of artists

It’s coming up to 7 years since she passed, which is a hard pill to swallow. I think things like this are great, as it ensures that her legacy continues to be immortalized.

I love that they’re doing this Aaliyah tribute but that cover is kinda spooky. She was my #1 favorite female singer and she still is! R.i.p Aaliyah

What Kidada Jones had to say couldn’t be more true. “If you listen to her music it’s so relevant today, but we had it so long ago”. So true. So many Aaliyah songs have what it takes to impact radio today. She was really paving a way. Infact, she still is. R.I.P. Aaliyah. R&B will live on for you.

totally agree with the comment about Aaliyah’s music being relevent today i have watched a few vids since her passing (R.I.P)
& you do get a few that are good but she had it all the emotions, the moves and the s** appeal i don’t get that from most acts now a days

Aaliyah was the best. She was a class act throughout her career. She was a young woman who made her mark on the music industry without being scantily clad and shaking everything her mother and God gave her in order to be seen or heard. She is truly missed. RIP Aaliyah.

Aaliyah’s magazine cover is pretty but it really disturbs me. When I look at I immediately picture the image of her in her coffin.

    R.I.P.

Totally agree with all the comments that they made about her especially Mark Ronson, she paved the way for timbalands whole career, she was truly amazing she had todays “in sound” so long ago, she truley is a legend and i hope people don’t forget that. i see sooo much of her in new artists today, she paved the way for the beyonce’s of the world – But did it with more class and integrity. All this form a white 20yo in scotland! R.I.P xxxx

I’m glad to see her remembered, it was sad to see her fame fade when magazines stopped featuring her, occasionally Vibe and Sister 2 Sister will have something but a cover is a nice touch,

    RIP baby girl

It is so wonderful 2 c magazines still payin tribute 2 such a beautiful woman & singer. Aaliyah was definitley talented & b4 she died, was on her way to being a major superstar in the industry. Sometimes its sad to hear her music becuz i go back 2 the time that i heard it & all the fun memories i associated with those songs… U kno, recently I was on youtube & somebody left a comment speaking ill of Aaliyah, & it kinda bothered me. I dont understand how people could deny this girl’s talent. She was one of the best & i’m not jus sayin that jus becuz she’s dead, but becuz it’s the truth. I thought that way b4 she died & I will always think that way about her. R.I.P Aaliyah! We all miss u very much.
