L’Oréal Deny ‘Lightening’ Beyonce Ad

Despite the controversy that has ensued regarding Beyonce’s unrecognisable ad for L’Oréal, the French cosmetics giant have denied altering the shot:

“We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L’Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles’ features or skin-tone in the campaign for Feria’s hair color.”

A rep for the 27-year-old Knowles declined to comment beyond the L’Oréal statement.

The ad is appearing in this month’s Elle, Allure and Essence. So far the magazines have not said anything about possible Pantone issues. {Source}

Granted we all know that was a lie from the pits of hell (I mean, honestly now…), it was unlikely they’d own up to such nonsense. After all, that would allow for increased debate about the whole issue; they wouldn’t want that now, would they. SMH…

Any thoughts?

    i THOUGHT BEYONCE WAS 26

  2. Anonymous August 8, 2008

what i dont get is why they hired beyonce as a model for hair products when thats not even her real hair. Wtf.

  3. Mark August 8, 2008

I heard people saying that they might have lightened her skin to make the contrast to her hair stand out, which is at least a less racist reason… but please just admit to doing it or people will boycott your brand u idiots!

I actualy think this is beyonce real skintone, have you seen her mom, she also has very light skin.

But you’re right about the hair, Why are they using her as a spokeperson while the hair is FAKE!! i dont understand

  5. Anonymous August 8, 2008

idk..somethin about that pic is unholy lol
idk if its the big fake lookin hair, the reddish color of her hair, or what. Or maybe its because she is shedding a few pounds..

I honestly believe her skin tone was altered. She’s been traveling alot with the hubby, and has been in the sun as a result of this. Even if thats her natural skin tone, its summer time and she’s rockin some form of tan so I don’t believe their statement. Secondly, I completely agree… Why would they use someone who’s hair is real fake and not real…?

Lighting does wonders… Open ur minds peoples and stop being so OTT… Beyonce is a light skinned black woman. Get over it!!!! Stop being jealous…

Look at Rihanna in ‘Pon di reply’ and look at her in ‘Shut up and drive.
Look at Kelly Rowland on ‘Ms. Kelly’ cover and then look at her on the ‘Ms. Kelly (Euro) deluxe’ cover…
Look at Michelle Williams on ‘Survivor’ cover and look at her on ‘Unexpected’ cover.

It’s called lighting… it does wonders… ya’ll should kno anyway cos we see it everyday in music video and making the video!!!

    OPEN UR MIND

The reason why they use Beyonce (even tho the hair is not natural) is because she aint promoting the (actual) hair, she promoting the hair colour….

    I thought that was obvious

  9. Anonymous August 8, 2008

Please stop with the “its not her hair” thing. Do you think anyone in Hollywood is wearing their real hair 24/7? Everyone wears tracks for fuller hair or lacefronts to lessen the stress on their hair. You guys wouldn’t even be saying that if she was Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears….and you want to call Loreal racists in the same comment..SMH

I don’t think they lightened her skin, but they did do something to her face…

  11. Jordan A. August 8, 2008

I don’t think they lightened her. She’s light skinned in the first place, and depending on her tanning habits, she changes. I think that her not “tanning”, combined with the very light hair color just made her look lighter. There’s really no reason to be upset about this, in my opinion.

  12. Anonymous August 8, 2008

Whatever! Even white people are saying her skin was lightened. And, i don’t remember her being the same complexion as Mariah Carey! This ad wouldn’t have made such a big deal if we knew that she was this bright.

LMAO @ Sam “Granted we all know that was a lie from the pits of hell (I mean, honestly now…)” Hahahah

  14. kwhite August 8, 2008

    ::In my NEGRO PLEASE voice::

    “SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTT”

They lightened and airbrushed all up and in and out of that photo and they know it. Screw a touch up! Just say it. I know Beyonce is creole and all but Damn!

  15. Nadde August 8, 2008

    Ms Knowles? It’s Mrs Carter…

  16. Anonymous August 9, 2008

Like Sam said, it’s a lie. It’s not like they’re gonna tell the truth anyway. Yeah, Beyonce’s mom is light but did people forget that her dad is dark? SMH

  17. Anonymous August 9, 2008

Obviously she didnt care, she let’s people alter her image ALL THE TIME. She’s sooooo lame and fake.

  18. Anonymous August 9, 2008

    ^^^you dumb as hell.

magazines alter ALL celebs pics. It’s called PHOTOSHOP you dumb idiot. How is Beyonce lame and fake? You just seem like a dumb hater.

Millions of people have been buying her c.d’s for 11 years now and she has been on 183 magazine covers. Beyonce is the most successful black female artist period.

So haters can go kill themselves. Queen Bey not going nowhere. 11 years and still counting.

This is Fake advertising because Beyonce is not wearing her real hair on her head that hair is a lacefront piece. I never knew Loreal did ads for lacefronts unless u could colour the lacefronts.

Beyonce must have approved this s*** so why shud we give a f***? She hasn’t been in the media lately because her head is far up jay-z ass. This picture is a way of staying relevant, look at all the controversy its causing.

Beyonce needs to stop with this fake image because shes losing fans by the min but she prob doesn’t care because she already has all the money in the world to retire with jay-z, because dumb ppl like ppl were the ones that were feeding her and her fake image for the past years. Best of luck to u beyonce…..even if u wish me the opposite

Loreal Does not make Hair products that work on African American hair, everyone knows that

What does magazine covers and the amount of albums and records have to do with this conversation? Beyonce is lame because she ALLOWED them to change her face. But, of course, she’s not gonna say anything because she’s getting paid. It’s all about the money, huh? Well, i know one thing, she needs to take some of that money she is making and get a freakin education. And, black women have the nerve to look up to someone who is uneducated- whatever. She does not represent me!

that picture is fake as hell. The “darker toned one” is just an altered version of the add done by someone to create even more controversy.

  24. Anonymous August 10, 2008

…………..1ST IT DOESNT MATTER IF ITS BEY'S HAIR OR NOT THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THE PRODUCT ARE GOING TO PROBABLY WEAR WEAVES, WIGS,& HAIRPIECES….HAIR IS HAIR!..AND IDK I DONT REALLY THINK HER TONE WAS LIGHTENED BECAUSE BEY IS REALLY FAIR SOMETIMES WHEN THE LIGHTING IS A CERTAIN WAY SHE LOOKS WHITE….ACTUALLY I THINK MOST OF THE TIME HER PICTURES ARE CHANGED IN SKIN TONE BUT TO MAKE HER APPEAR DARKER NOT LIGHTER FOR INSTANCE ON HER "DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE" ALBUM COVER AND NUMEROUS OTHER PICS THEY SHOW HER WITH A GOLDEN TONE AND HER SKIN TONE IS NOWHERE NEAR THAT….& THE COLOR OF HER HAIR IN THIS AD MAKES SEEMS TO MAKE THE TONE OF HER SKIN APPEAR LIGHTER

  25. Anonymous August 11, 2008

THE DEBATE ABOUT WHEATHER IT IS HER HAIR OR NOT IS NOT IMPORTANT!
WHAT IS IMPORTANT HERE IS THE FACT THAT SHE IS A ROLE MODEL FOR MILLIONS OF YOUNG BLACK GURLS AND SHE WOULD APROVE THIS AD IN WHICH HER SKIN TONE HAS SOOOOOOOO OBVIOUSLY BEEN ALTERED IS DISGUSTING!! SHE IS JUST A SELL OUT! AND WHAT DISGUSTS ME FUTHER IS THAT SHE USES HER FAKE “BLACKNESS” WHEN PROMOTING A RECORD OR OTHER STUFF!
WEATHER LIKE ME YOUR A (WERE) A FAN OR NOT! THIS ADD RIGHT HERE IS WRONG JUST PLAIN WRONG FOR SOO MANY REASON!!
ITS OK TO BE BLACK IN THE 21ST CENTURY! AND IF PPL SAY IT ISNT THEN U SHOULD TELL THEM TO F*CK OFF! NOT TAKE MONEY FROM THEM!! PEACE
