Rihanna & Chris Brown Rule The Charts
As the press and public alike continue to speculate on the supposed ‘relationship’ between young stars Rihanna and Chris Brown, the pair are generating a buzz elsewhere – more specifically, on this week’s charts. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Rihanna’s ‘Disturbia’ jumps #4-#3 on the Billboard Hot 100 (hitting the top spot on the Hot Digital chart, after selling through 140,000 digital downloads this week too). Meanwhile Brown inches one spot closer to the top of the Hot 100 with ‘Forever’ climbing #3-#2.
While this is undoubtedly a major achievement for both, especially when considering this being a relatively early stage of their career, I can’t help but be left with a salty taste in my mouth. Pardon my bluntness, but both ‘Forever’ and ‘Disturbia’ are absolute garbage IMO. Both artists are capable (one more than the other) of much better material. Yet the masses seem to be eating up the rubbish served up to them. Will ‘real’…or better yet, half-decent, music ever get a chance in the contemporary musical climate? I hope so, though my thinking may just be “dum, dum, dee dum dum dum dee dum dum”. SMH…

Rihanna’s “Disturbia” jumps to #1 on Hot Digital Songs, ending a six-week run in the top spot by Katy Perry’s cheeky “I Kissed A Girl.” This is Rihanna’s fifth #1 on the digital chart, which is more than any other artist has amassed since the chart was introduced in October 2004 (which is when downloading took off). Rihanna, 20, first topped the chart in 2005 with “Pon De Replay” and has returned to the top spot with “SOS,” “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z), “Take A Bow” and now this hit.
Rihanna is also the only artist with eight songs on Nielsen/SoundScan’s running, all-time list of the top 200 songs with the most paid downloads. Fergie, Nickelback and Chris Brown are tied for second place with five each.
Rihanna is listed on that chart with “Umbrella,” “Don’t Stop The Music,” “SOS,” “Take A Bow,” “Pon De Replay,” “Shut Up And Drive,” “Unfaithful,” and “Hate That I Love You” (featuring Ne-Yo). These eight hits have sold a combined total of 13,155,000 downloads.

What’s the deal with all the hating on these two? I’m sorry Sam, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but ever since Rihanna started to get REALLY big this year it’s been nothing but hateration coming from ThatGrapeJuice!
The girl is doing her thing and she’s capitalizing on her status as “it” girl of the moment…you can’t hate on that, Beyonce did the same thing when she was the numero uno chick in the game! Rihanna, and the team surrounding her, is smart!
These two kids are in the beginning of their careers and to have acheived what they acheived ALREADY is a testimony to how hard they work…those two have been on the constant promo grind for the last year and their success is well deserved even if it isn’t your taste of music.

I am NOT a fan of Rihanna, but I gotta give it to a girl who can become a successful music artist with no vocal talent. Chris is losing his grind with his last single, but it’s hard to constantly out do oneself. Just ask Weezy after his next album…sold over a million copies in ONE week with this last one, but can he do it again.

WTF? Both songs are alright(With Disturbia being alot better than forever) but for these 2 songs to be the #2 and #3 songs in the country is ridiculus. Just goes to show that we have no good music out right now and havent had any for the whole year(with an exception of a couple of songz). Cant wait until the fourth quarter of the year when we can HOPEFULLY have good music back!

I’m not hating, but the only reason why Rihanna songs are so HOTT is because of downloads. Disturbia is not Hot on the Radio, but download wise…its downloading like hot cakes! Her songs are garbage, but once her songs get download like crazy that is when the radio stations picks up on her songs and play them to deaf!
I doubt Rihanna will be any good next year when she releases a new album…she just “Ugh” to me. Chris Brown…lol no comment!

I agree with Sam, its sad that people buy rubbish music from people that have no talent (RiRi); Chris Brown has better songs on his album but this song is the pits and at least he can sing pretty well and is a good performer unlike Rihhana, she altogether is a joke to me, she has little talent and is only here because her label forced her down our throats.She needs to sit down somewhere.
I cant wait until the REAL Queen, Beyonce, comes and sets all you little Rihanna fans straight. She can sing and dance at the same time and is a great performer unlike lil girl.
P.S Can any of you Rihanna fans tell me what ‘Disturbia’ means, cos the good Lord knows I tried and tried to understand what the meaning of the song is.

Few people criticize the Justin Timberlake's of the music industry who came out "pop" and switch it up and do various sounds of music rather it be "r&b" or "rap". The moment Chris Brown and Rihanna do something that is different and actually quite good, depending on your true appreciation of music, it is classified garbage. If you don't like these people's success just say that, but don't knock their hustle by attacking their talent or credibility.

I am happy for both of their success, as I am a fan of both Chris and Rihanna and it’s nice to see young talented people doing well.
I don’t think Forever is Chris’s best song and Disturbia is not Rihanna’s too but you know what, WHO CARES!

I have to agree that both songs are mediocre but I DON’T think either artist can really do any better. The sad truth is substance and talent really has no place in this industry unless you have the “look” to back it up. The people who think “Disturbia” and “Forever” are spectacular songs probably don’t listen to music with substance anyway. Thats the reason I say Cassie can be successful with the right people behind her because the bar has really been set LOW!

I’m not a big fan of either artist here, but all the comments about Rihanna not having talent is just pure hating. How is it that everytime someone doesn’t like an artist’s image, sound, or whatever, it comes down to them not having talent. Rihanna is doing her thing now, she has a very unique sound and her voice is so distinguishable, which is why Take A Bow and Umbrella are so addicting to listeners. The video for “Disturbia” was amazing. I don’t like the disco thing on Chris Brown. It make s his voice sound way too robotic. Jessie Mcartney should of have sung that song. they both should have awitched songs. “Kiss Kis” was his best it deisplayed his raw talent. Forever was an exstacy video. Rihanna has awesome video, just the song is not hard like she claims it to be. I think the dance remixes would be better.
