On her wedding to Jay-Z
Beyoncé tells the magazine that the wedding was very small and intimate, because she’s not a “traditional” woman and having it be “her day” wasn’t something she needed. Being a star and walking the red carpet has diminished the need for that over the years. “It’s been my day so many days already,” she told the magazine.
She didn’t want an engagement ring because “people put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me,” she said.
Instead of just getting wedding rings, the couple also got matching tattoos of the Roman numeral four on their ring fingers, so if they take off the bands for work or to go swimming, a mark of some form is still there. (The number four is special to the couple because her birthday is September 4, his birthday is December 4, and their wedding anniversary is April 4.)
“I feel that, especially now, with the Internet and paparazzi and camera pho
nes, it’s so difficult to maintain mystery,” she told the magazine. “And that’s so important. Even in a relationship, I feel like not being that accessible is really important. If you think about Prince or Michael Jackson, or any superstars, you couldn’t see them when they got off their planes or when they got out of the pool and didn’t comb their hair. It’s great that people see we’re not perfect. But it’s almost impossible to have superstars now, because people will never get enough. And it’s not even about my music. It’s about all the things that people imagine about me in their minds. But I can’t satisfy everyone. I know that Jay and I probably do inspire people. And I appreciate people feeling proud. But this is the only way I’ve been able to stay sane, so why would I start talking now?
“[Not speaking] controls your brand,” she continued. “It controls what you want to put out there and kind of forces people to talk about what you want them to talk about.”
But then Beyoncé lets it slip that it was a joint decision with her husband to keep quiet. “We decide everything,” she told the magazine. “My word is my word. What Jay and I have is real. It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real.”
Interesting. After more than 10 years on the scene, nearly half of which has been spent being the ‘superstar’ we know today, it’s great to finally see the ‘real’ Beyonce let down her guard and open up a bit. All indications point to her album being a lot more personal this go round.

Typical, you were so on point . . . Anonymous comment at 9:09 pm as well. I am a huge Beyonce fan, but she is so predictable. If you listen to her interviews, she actually tells you everything you want to know, you just have to pay attention to the things she says. I told my sisters last year that her and Jay would get married on April 4, she asked how you figure that. I told her, that her bday is on the 4th and so is Jay and they got the finger tatoos of the IV when they got engaged, and I simply guessed that it would be 04-04-08 (4 +4 = 8). In the upgrade you song, Jay says the rock on her finger is like a tumor, your on the verge of a new marriage . . . . I also said that she would only talk to Essence about the wedding, because she talked to them about the relationship. Someone interviewed her right after the wedding and asked her to confirm or deny and she said if I didn’t talk about my relationship then, why would I talk about my marriage now. Not to mention, she said years ago that she wanted to be married with kids by the time she was 30, she always tours after her album, I will bet my paycheck, she will get pregnant after this tour, late 2009, early 2010. She will definintely have a baby by the time she is 30.
I watched the video message and the single ladies choreography looks sick as hell, because the girl is a hell of a performer. Go Bey, as much hating as everyone does, she will go platinum as always.

10 songs again… I really hope the album is a treat for us… Anyway, about the album titled thing, ummm does anybody know how many ppl had titles like Alicia Keys’ album before she came out with “As I Am”? I mean really, its like everything Bee does somebody has to compare it to another artist, who really was not the first to do the act (as they say Bee copies off of).

she will do what she did with that awful album Bday. she will release it with 10 tracks and then release a deluxe version with more songs and then re release it in 2009 with more “bonus tracks” and these new singles are not anything new or different for her. single ladies is the same damn sound as Bday. she is too hyped and so overrated.

Ok so I love Beyonce more than a LIL bit…HOWEVER the fact that she supposedly recorded 70 tracks but this Chick is only putting out a CD of 10 Tracks is disrespectful…Both the first 2 tracks are wack so that leaves a chance for only 8 possible good tracks…
Of Course she's gonna put out a Re-Release and force fans to have to spend another full price for a Cd with maybe 5 new songs…
The BIGGER she becomes the less I like her!

I love both these songs and I love Beyonce. As far as her album being titled “I Am”, she did not copy Alicia Keys. There are plenty of people who have had that as the title of their albums…remember Nas’ “I Am”?
