Chilli Talks TLC, Usher, Tameka & Much More
Former TLC star Chilli recently sat down with Essence Magazine to talk about everything from TLC being the biggest selling female group (over Destiny’s Child) to her thoughts on Usher and wife Tameka and a whole heap more. Thank you for acknowledging that because everyone always credits Destiny’s Child as the biggest-selling female group, but it’s just not true. You can’t count album sales for each solo project collectively and come up with numbers.
On whether Tameka broke up her relationship with Usher
When people ask whether or not I think she is the reason we broke up, I have no clue what Usher was doing outside of our relationship. When we broke up, it was because it wasn’t working out. I later found out there was some infidelity, but he never said who that woman or who those women were, because I’m sure it was more than one. Again, I heard things, but Tameka never crossed my mind. The first time I strolled across that [infamous] beach photo I thought somebody photoshopped that. I didn’t believe it. I did wonder if she was one of the girls, but again, I never asked. My memory of her was that she was the stylist, because she dressed Usher and I for an event one time. Honestly, those are questions I never asked him, and I’vedistanced myself so much from him. We aren’t communicating at all. We broke up, had conversation a few times maybe two years after we broke up, and it was a wrap. I think what keeps it alive at all is these [blogs] speculating whether we’d get back together.
On being labelled a homewrecker while dating CNN’s T.J Holmes
…let’s clear this up right now. T.J. Holmes was divorced and had been divorced. It wasn’t a situation where he was going through a divorce and still married. I would never date a man that is legally separated or tied to another woman. We dated, but it was brief. I’m a godly person and try to do all the things that God wants me to do. I have a conscience; I could never do that. Besides, I want to get married and present a healthy wonderful relationship for myself and my 11-year-old son.
On Coping With Left Eye’s Death
I see her family every now and then. I still have my moments and probably always will. There’s not a day that goes by that she doesn’t cross my mind. When I do some interviews, I get so upset when people refer to me as “the former member of TLC.” I am always and still am a part of TLC. We are forever no matter what. As long as T-Boz and I are living, we are keeping Left Eye’s memory alive.

On the one hand, I’m wondering why the hell she keeps getting asked and is still talking about the Usher situation. Then I remember she hasn’t really done much with herself since then. What happened to the solo career?

sorry but SPICE GIRLS have been the best selling girl group of all time with 55m world wide… TLC only have 32M world wide… why does no1 ever give them their props… just cos they are pure pop music ? yeah get over it…

TLC is the best girl group of all time. She finally cleared up the TJ mess about damn time. Touche Sam, mmm…I wonder why that was the only thing you could comment on about Chilli with the Usher situation? It is like she said “think what keeps it alive at all is these [blogs] speculating whether we’d get back together”. The blogs and media are always the one asking her the question. I think it is good that she is being honest about what went down that way these “blogs” can get over it since you all are always doing the asking.

Yeah because it is with solo sales counted DC sold over 100 million. But as a group DC sold over 50 million. That’s still more than TLC with their what 39 million. Chilli does sound a bit bitter on that comment maybe bcuz TLC was out way before DC and DC still managed to pass them but who knows. That to me is straight disrespect to Beyonce, Kelly, Michelle and even LeToya, LaTavia.

Some of you guys are seriously trippin over these figures. TLC has sold more albums worldwide than DC3 who have added solo member efforts to reach their figure. Crazysexycool has sold nearly 13million alone in the US (no other girl group has come CLOSE to that record to date). TLC was original, and groundbreaking. While I love me some Beyonce , TLC was a genuine GROUP and each member played an equal part.

I think your trippin over the fact that DC has sold more and are still going to be selling more with there upcoming albums…
and the reason there the Best selling group is because in 5 0r 10 years they will surpass once again…
oh well they have accomplished alot anyways they have millions, grammys, awards, and a star in the walk of fame

spice girls debut album sold over 24 million copies worldwide they have the best selling album by a female group nobody can touch on that sh***.there second sold over 17 million. 18.2 million in singles which means they have sold more singles than any other group. all together they have sold 55 million and unlike dc they are not adding solo projects. they are the best selling

I don’t know about all that Chilli. Cause when you add up Destiny’s Child solo efforts you get 100 Million but add up their sales as a group and you get 50 million which still is enough to beat them in sales. And just because they have one album that went Diamond that doesn’t mean they’ve sold more. Chilli shopping at haters ‘r’ us

okay all this tlc and destinys child beef needs to stop. destinys child has said that tlc influenced them soooo many times. tlc are legends and som is dc. dc did sell more and was the last female group to do so since pcd is not doing anything. dc3 do respect tlc
