R&B songstress Ashanti performed ‘Shine’ on Good Morning NY earlier this week. The song, which is a cut from her criminally underrated ‘The Declaration’ LP, features on the soundtrack for Will Smith’s latest movie ‘Seven Pounds’.
About the performance, I quite enjoyed this one. It goes without saying that Ashanti has come leaps and bounds with her live performance game this go round. It’s just a shame that she doesn’t receive as much recognition for that as she should.

Rihanna cant sing, sorry, and sam is right, ashanti never gets credit for her singing abilities. if ashanti sounds like this, people jus like o well, it was aite, or it was ok. it never can be SHE SOUNDED GREAT OR GOOD! ppl need to just realize that ashanti gonna be around for a long time. the news stations lover her, she still gets movie roles in major movies, she still sells albums, she stil get endorsements and ppl still book her for shows like all the time, so she is doing something rite!

Personally i don't feel like this performance is particularly strong however Ashanti's album 'The Declaration' is a great album!!! & Hopefully this song being the soundtrack for 'Seven Pounds' will help sell some units.

Not trying to be mean but Ashanti is one of those stars who was at the right place at the right time to get a deal out of luck. im sorry but she said shes been dancing since she been six and i still havent seen proof of any type of dance skill. As for singing i think she started that after she got signed. to me you can pick a cute girl at any high school give her a deal get her a fan base then put her through traing and you will have the next ashanti. She may be a beautiful person but to she she shows how anyone in the world can become famous.the truth hurts sometimes.
SHE HAS CAME A LONG WAY WITH HER LIVE VOCALS. I LOVE HER MUSIC AND HOPES SHE STEP IT UP A NOCH WITH THE NEXT LP. GO ASHANTI, SHE DID GOOD, AND I LOVE THE DECLARATION.
She did good and Rihanna PLEASE! That biatch still cant sing no matter how hard she tries. Ciara airy soft vocals are a better listen then her straining and sounding off key sheep like screams she calls singing and holding notes. Bah bah black sheep have you any wool. Comes to my head everytime I see Rhianna sing live. Ashanti is NO Beyonce she mastered her vocals it only took 10yrs+ in the game thats all. I know Ciara and maybe Rhianna is on their way. She really has improved a lot as far as live singing goes since she came out…
Not that impressed by the performance, but I did see footage of her at a showcase in ATL a few moths ago singing The Way I Love You and she did well so I do agree she has improved over the years. Her voice will always be mediocre at best to me, but I do think she makes some good songs.
I think she did a wonderful job with this performance. I am now just wondering if this song, “Shine” is going to become her new single/3rd single from ‘The Declaration’ since she performed it on this, the 2008 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and since it was used for one of the previews for the movie Seven Pounds!
I hope the best for the future single and hope it succeeds on the charts, whether whatever single she releases, though I really prefer “In These Streets.”

Ashanti isn’t underrated she’s overrated! She got lucky with a song called foolish and a popular sample but to be truthful Christina Milian, Mya or Tierria Mari could’ve sung this song. Nothing special and nothing distinctive. Again pretty doesn’t mean talented. Oh, by the way i didn’t press play.

I’m sorry but that was awful. If you call that improvement, good, but she obviously has a long way to go. The song is BLAH and it didn’t touch me at all.
She has certainly done better(her Broadway performance a month back,that atl show etc) BUT she is def. being slept on this go ’round. Hopefully better things will come for her in ’09

her fans should buy her cd's then. Declaration has sold a whopping 317k so far to date. Sorry but that is a flop. I feel bad for her but she needs to up it. I've legally purchased all of her cd's/ dec. was good but she need to try something new. step out of the comfort zone for a sec then maybe she will run neck and neck again with Beyonce. Blatantly saying that Ashanti's "Shine" is a poor try at doing something like Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," is CALLING Diane Warren (& Peter Stengaard) a Linda Perry knocker. She co-wrote the song.
AND Diane Warren's work goes back. She's legendary just like Linda Perry.
SECONDLY to say that Keri Hilson has talent in vocals & writing comes off as a stretch because Keri had the same upbringing as Ashanti. The both came off of huge pre-success songs as featured artists singing the hook.
Tell me why it's taken her 3 singles and she still hasn't recieved mainstream attention. By this time Ashanti had 3 Top 20 singles where she was the lead artist ("Foolish," "Happy," & "Baby")! Keri has tried to work "Energy," "Return The Favor" & "Turnin' Me On" yet none of them have become or will Top 10's on the Hot 100. Not to mention she's had help from Timbaland and Lil' Wayne as featured artists, and they are top profile artists currently.
I like Keri [especially "Energy" & the demo version of "Return The Favor"], but obiviously she doesn't have the 'It' factor to sell a Top 10 record, in any major chart, at least not quickly as a lead artist!
