From The Vault: Fat Joe – ‘What’s Luv (ft. Ashanti)’

Having been rested on the bench for a while, this week marks the return of our From The Vault feature (with a bunch of other features set to make re-surface in the coming weeks). From The Vault sees us re-visit classic music videos, performances etc. Fat Joe’s 2002 smash collabo with Ashanti ‘What’s Luv?’ serves as this week’s clip. A bonafide hit all over the globe, who wasn’t bumping this one?

Ahh…the days when Murder Inc ruled the industry. While it was pretty much standard fare for Fat Joe to only have a hit every other album, Ashanti and her Murder Inc members – especially a certain Ja Rule continued to churn out hit after hit following this one. How the times have changed…

Yes, I do miss the Murder INC rule of music, because overall they did release a lot of great music. Songs including:

    "Down 4 U"
    "The Pledge"
    "Always On Time"
    "Rock Wit You (Awww Baby)"
    "Down A** Chick"
    "Ain't It Funny" [Murder Remix]
    "I'm Real" [Murder Remix]
    "Foolish"
    "What's Luv?"
    "Mesmerize"

    ….and the list goes on…

It was great to hear music from Irv Gotti, Ja Rule, Ashanti, and featured Murder INC guests, that was interesting, catchy, and good.

I really hope that these artists get to gain their prominence in music again. Ja Rule's 'Mirror' album has been pushed back since late 2007 I believe, Charli Baltimore's album has been put off and in the makes for what 5 years by now! NOBODY really wants to give the currently ONLY standing Murder INC artist the promo (& play) she needs (Irv included…)

Time to step it up Murder INC, a rebound can be in your sight!

    ALSO
LOL Fat Joe does release 1 hit per album, and tries to say he gets slept on in the industry. "What's Luv," "Make It Rain," "I Won't Tell," "We Clubbin' " all the biggest singles from his past albums…. Come harder Joe!

If it weren’t for the public hopping on 50 Cent’s d*** and all saying “Ja Rule is a wanksta, and f*** The inc”, Murda Inc would still be popular and you know it. Now look what happened, all those bandwagon jumpers are over 50 Cent and his garbage music and Ja Rule can’t be given a second chance. SMH, sad how an actual good rapper had to have his career ruined by a s*** rapper like 50 Cent who’s music isn’t even relevant anymore.

Aw, this song takes me back to 11th grade. Good times. This song is cool, but Always On Time is still my jam. Yep Murder Inc had the charts on lock for a little while.

@10:48-That is so true. Now the same people that were on 50’s bandwagon are on Lil Wayne’s now. Karma is something else. LOL. But I think if Ja hadn’t done so many duets back then and had more of a balance of street songs for his fans 50 couldn’t have taken over so easily or probably couldn’t have taken over at all. What’s so ironic is that the same thing 50 made fun of Ja doing, he ended up biting the same formula. Oh well 50 is over now anyway.
