From The Vault: Janet’s Superbowl Performance
This week’s From The Vault clip is Janet Jackson’s now infamous 2004 Superbowl Half-Time performance with Justin Timberlake. Granted I’m sure many of you know the reason for the hysteria surrounding this performance, there didn’t (and doesn’t) seem to much emphasis on the actual performance in it’s own right. Hell, outside those who watched the actual telecast, many probably haven’t even seen the performance in it’s entirety – besides the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ part. So without further ado, check out Janet’s medley showing of ‘All 4 U’, ‘Rhythm Nation’ and ‘Rock Your Body’ with JT below:
Truly awesome! From the stage spectacle to the choreography to the cool pre-recorded vocals (hehe), I really enjoyed this one. It’s a shame that such a minor occurrence (be it accidental or intentional) overshadowed this. It grates at times to see how one nipple (which, as you see from the video, can only seen from a far distance) could cause such furore, when Janet’s contemporaries – namely the Madonna’s and co have been thrusting their most private of areas for all to see since the beginning of time.
On a lighter note, watching this goes to show why there is only one Janet.

Yep, that’s one of my favorite live performances from JJ. Though I wasn’t there to see the nipple part go down, I did search it on Utube and it’s really wasn’t a big deal to me. Heck, I was more intrigued with her stage presence… good times.

i love that you say “hehe” to the “pre recorded” vocals. (only because if another artist – ie, mariah carey – sang to pre recorded vocals you’d be the first bitch to bash her for it). Janet could have never sung this LIVE. lets be real. her REAL voice is LOW as hell! but she is a great performer. i’ll give her that.

I just wonder where her career would be now if that never happened. It's odd to me that if a black woman messes up, there are no second chances and they are finished (Janet/Whitney), but then Madonna & Brit can do anything and still be successful.

Wow I havent seen this in years, I forgot how great this performance was. I remember my fam and I not even noticing anything about the exposed nipple until it was overblown on the news afterwards.
And to Cameron, Janet is in the same category as Brit. Spears where people don t watch her to give a vocal performance, they watch her to see her dance.
Mariah on the other hand never dances(unless you count the routine she did for breakdown and loverboy)folks wanna see her belt those beautiful notes shes known for, so for her to just use some prerecorded vocals is lazy and makes it questionable for why shes even trying.

I love the walk down the stairs. That was too funky! I don’t think Superbowl ended her career; it was the wrong choices of singles from her cd’s. ex: why didn’t she release “Enjoy”. All of her fans were crying for that song.
