Okay, I can see what Polow whatever was getting at, but Ciara is definitely not an Aaliyah replacement, although she’s not a bad singer. I really don’t feel like Ciara is trying to copy Aaliyah, because they do have different styles; Aaliyah is sultry and coquettish, and focuses more on heartbreak, whereas Ciara is more dismissive, tends to boast, and hardly ever employs 60’s soul vocal techniques. As far as singing goes, Aaliyah has the slighly thicker and more seasoned chops, but Ciara has some ideas of her own (like her opera-like vocals in “High Price”). Aaliyah wasn’t exactly a Whitney, a Toni, a Mariah, or a Mary (even though her intonation and agility was better), but I appreciate her as an vocalist because she was a risk-taker. Alot of times the risks she took vocally didn’t work but when they did the results were notable. “I Can Be” and “What If” imply that Aaliyah sounds better as an alternative rocker than she does as an R&B artist, and “Never No More” makes domestic abuse sound enticing. While I enjoyed the “One in a Million” album, her self titled release is when I think it all started clicking for her, although “Try Again” and “Are You That Somebody” are two of the most successful tracks of all her unconventional efforts.

yall need to calm down yes Aaliyah could sing and dance but she was not the best out just being honest. Ciara is not on her level but she is okay and stop saying if Aaliyah was alive such and such wouldn’t be around yall don’t know that. May she rest in peace but when she was alive it’s true people didn’t make this big fuss over her nor where her album sales that great but suddenly she owned the whole game. That’s a lie and it’s uncalled for. Brandy and Monica were out back then and I remember quite clear that they were just as good and as popular. If she didn’t stop them what makes any one think she would stop Beyonce, Ciara or anyone else. Lets give her all the props she deserved while respectng her memory but we don’t have to lie or put down others to do that.

@ beast you’re entitled to your opinion and all, but Beyonce can’t even sing all that well unless you classify screaming at the top of your lungs as singing. Whatev… People are so quick to downplay Aaliyah’s vocals but I bet those same people have only heard the songs she released as singles when they really should look around and find some unreleased tracks from her and maybe change their “opinion”
