Peep former Danity Kane star Aubrey O’Day’s much talked about Playboy cover finally surfaced today (with the issue itself hitting newsstands this Friday). For those wondering why exactly she looks like a few Photoshop strokes away from being a cartoon, the shoot was carried out by photographer Markus Klinko – the same man behind Mariah Carey’s laughable shoot for both ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ & ‘E=MC2’. With that said, there’s no denying Ms.O’Day looks great.
O’Day recently spoke with MTV about the shoot. Check out an extract of the article:

“You could never imagine how empowering it is to be nude in front of cameras and have people looking at you in that way and seeing you as beautiful,” she told MTV News. “You’re seeing yourself as beautiful. I mean, a lot of the times I think I’m seen as a bad girl, and I think that’s because I’m so open.”

O’Day said that she agreed to the pictorial only after the magazine made Klinko available. He’s snapped portraits of everyone from Mariah Carey to Pamela Anderson, in addition to the cover of Beyoncé’s 2003 album Dangerously In Love, and O’Day knew he’d make her Playboy spread something to remember.

“I only agreed to do it because [Markus] was shooting it,” she said. “He is unbelievably amazing. He agreed with me that we needed to do something classy, iconic and truly beautiful. I mean, I think a lot of the type of way I’m portrayed in the media isn’t always the way I am in my heart. And I think that we were able to capture that with [this shoot].

“It’s going to be very elegant, very iconic,” she emphasized. “We wanted to do something very beautiful and classic. And I’m very excited about, just in general, how liberating the shoot was and how great it’s going to be to express myself and be comfortable with my sexuality. I think in society we tend to put ourselves in boxes and corners and restrict ourselves, and we constantly feel the need to not say this or not wear this … and taking it all off and being nude is the most natural state that you can be in.”

And what does she think her detractors will say about the Playboy spread? Well, to be honest, she doesn’t really care. Because she’s not listening.

“I’m always gonna be true, whether people like it or not. I’m just gonna be me. I’m gonna be real. I’m not gonna do anything because people want me to. I’m not gonna hide something about me,” she laughed. “I think people are scared to be who they are, and if anybody’s gonna go out there and let everybody know, ‘Be who you are … no judgment here,’ it’s gonna be me.”

More power to her, I guess…
Tidbit: The D.Woods and Dawn interviews will be rolled out later this week.
What do you think of the cover?

I just love people who are starved for attention. If Aubrey had genuine talent; if Aubrey was genuine at all she wouldn't need to "liberate" herself by showing the world her T&A. You really want to show the world how "empowered" you are? Do something a little less predictable; Keep your damn clothes on, carry yourself with dignity and respect. "I'm always gonna be true" my toosh. This from a woman who hides behind fake hair, fake lashes, fifteen pounds of make-up,fake boobs and a FAKE PHOTO SHOOT. That picture is not airbrushed,it's windblown. They did however capture the essence of Aubrey; like that picture, she is the furthest thing from naturally beautiful.

I'm sure there are people who will read this post and write me off as a hater or accuse me of being jealous(laughable). I could care less. In the words of Aubrey, "I'm always going to be true." I'm always going to state my opinion the same way Aubrey is always going to try to justify being a s****. Anyone who actually buys the bullcrap she's selling needs just as much prayer as she does.

Aubrey is a superstar, and using her self in her own right.
All the other girls from Danity Kane are superstars, too, that’s why diddy picked them.
LOVE Aubrey, since day one of MTB3! and hope to see way more of her, in the future.
HATERS start talkin! she needs the haters to become the superstar, she was intended to become! thnx

I have no problem with a woman taking off her clothes for Playboy. If you got it, flaunt it. What I do abhor is the blatant disrespect for her core audience and her seeming desperation. Seriously, this cover & spread doesn't make me take her seriously as a singer or an artist. Or see her talent. For longevity and progression, all those things count. She's extending her 15 minutes, but she's going back to the crypt with all those other Making the Band artists/groups unless she starts making better choices.

I don’t so much have a problem with Aubrey’s choices;bad as they may be, they are her choices to make. We all have free will. I do however have a serious problem with the asenine comments she makes. I would have more respect for her if she would just say,’I like being a s** symbol. I think I should be able to dance, dress and pose as though I should be on a pole somewhere and no one should be concerned with what I decide to do with MY life and MY body.’ At least then, she wouldn’t be decieving herself or others. She’d have the same attitude that so many people in this world who don’t fear God have, and she’d be dismissed as an immature little girl who doesn’t know any better. But,the fact that she is actually trying to justify and even pass off her w****-ish antics as admirable and/or inspirational, the fact that she’s trying to come off as a feminist of some sort sickens me. Aubrey is a celebrity,so unfortunately she has influence;but not a positive one. How does wanting to look like a drag queen and posing n*** translate to “classy”,”iconic”,and “elegant”? IT DOESN’T!! Call it what it is, a desperate attempt to stay in the limelight and get people talking. Clearly it’s working now but how long will it last. People never stop to think about the implications or long term affects of the choices they make. There are people on this blog right now who will read Aubrey’s comments and conclude from what she has said(and what some poster’s have said)that “If you’ve got it,flaunt it”,but thirty years from now(God willing she live that long)do you really think she’ll look back on the choices she’s made and feel “liberated” or “empowered”? I don’t. I hope and pray that she will have acquired some measure of wisdom and real self-worth by that time and will have come to the realization that the only One that can liberate or empower is Christ, not some idiotic n*** photo shoot for a men’s magazine. Our bodies are temples. I certainly don’t need to take my clothes off to show the world how open I am,and because I KNOW who and who’s I am,I don’t need to degrade or sale myself to know that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made”. In other words, I’m beautiful. I’m secure, validated and assured and I won’t allow myself to be influenced by someone who is obviously still searching for all of those things. It’s high time we stop trying to please this world and start focusing on pleasing the One who created it.

    Sincerely,
    A truth teller

    EDIT !!!!!!

  15. Anonymous February 13, 2009

Sam, please stop promoting this poor excuse for a woman. Until she does something valid, you know something that actually involves quality music (as if that would ever happen) she’s just a waste of space on this blog.
