The media has no doubt been whipped into a frenzy since details of the Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna emerged on Grammy night, this past Sunday. As I’m sure many of you can vouch for, there continues to be rumor upon rumor as to what exactly went down – something I anticipate will come to light as the days and weeks roll on.
With that said, I kinda feel compelled to give my ‘2 Pence’ on the situation…
The fact that little in the way of concrete information has surfaced has me less concerned about the drama that went down in the car itself (after all, there’s 3 sides to every story: Chris’ side, Rihanna’s side, and the truth). Rather, I’m real interested to see what the implications are for both moving forward.
For all the PR spin Chris’ team are undoubtedly going to try and do, I can’t see him coming out from the situation unharmed career-wise. Since bursting onto the scene back in 2005 with ‘Run It’, Chris has been carefully ‘sold’ to us as being a squeaky-clean, teen idol – with his target audience being of the younger kind – something not even the release of the raunchy ‘Take You Down’ could alter…much. Hence, being tagged with the ‘woman beater’ label – whatever the reason behind his actions – almost certainly destroys the basis of what he’s been built on. And if the foundation is destroyed, everything else must crumble down with it. Indeed, already, Wrigley’s have suspended their endorsement deal with Brown, while mounting radio stations and music television stations have pulled Brown’s songs and videos from the airwaves due to increasing pressure from their audience. What’s more, with a court date to answer to now set for March 5th, even if the media circus settles, it’ll only be restarted when Brown goes before a judge. Put simply, this looks to be a situation that could very well tarnish the career of a very promising artist.
Meanwhile, I can really see Rihanna being the winner in the whole situation. I say this cautiously, as the details of what really went down could present a very different picture to what the masses currently think. Yet, the idea of any press being good press rings true here for Ms. Fenty IMO. For all her hits and paparazzi attention, this is hands-down the most press the ‘Disturbia’ singer has received – ever. More over, public sympathy – both from those who like her and those who don’t – seems to be at an all-time high for the ‘battered female’ star. I can almost guarantee that her next release will benefit hugely from this all. Hence, as bizzare as it may sound, this situation could in actuality be what solidifies the 20 year old’s place as a superstar.

Umm .. i dont think there will be winners in this situation.Umm i am not sure that this goes out in favor for Rihanna.I think that them both,who ruled the charts only a second ago,will be seen more in tabloids then charts from now on.Rihanna’s airplay decreased massively since the incident,she is within – 600 and stronger from last week,which is really a lot of airplay lost in a week only. Rihanna wont be bigger then what she was,from now on she will only have a mediocre success.She is not tabloid free anymore,and once u get in tabloids,you might become bigger star,but u become less seen as an artist and u don’t get airplay by default.

How can someone make the comment that he was “defending himself”? Regardless of if she started the fight or not, we do know that he came out of it with pretty much no injuries while she was beat the s*** out of. No offense but if I had caught my lover cheating via text or whatever happened, I might slap the s*** out of them also or throw their keys out of the car. i’ve never been a real fan of rihanna, having the usual tendency from being indifferent towards her to not liking her at all. though amidst the disliking, i’ve never really hated her severely. i like her songs, but i didn’t think she was on the level of certain other singers. but the posts that thegrapejuice has been posting about her are so darn biased that it got me thinking.
i’ve realized that though the material she produces doesn’t allow for her to go two-three octaves like beyonce (whom i dearly adore) and christina (i’m not saying that rihanna is bad), but she does put in a lot of effort and passion into her music. i don’t thank she’s the type who just put out catchy songs that would score well with the people just so she can make millions.
there’s a reason why her songs are well liked, and controversy or none, i believe that she’ll achieve success, because just lkie any other artist, she puts in her heart into what she’s doing.

Hot Dammit, you hit it on the nail. I feel sorry for Chris Brown, I really do but my heart goes out more to Rihanna. I don’t think they should have ever hooked up in the first place but whatever. I feel that regardless of whether or not Rihanna was the aggressor in this case, Chris Brown should have had enough sense to realize that he wasn’t fighting another man his height and frame. That is what’s most upsetting to me. I know this country can be unfair to men when it comes to domestic violence but when you do damage to someone whose physical strength may not match yours (ie a woman) then I feel you should be held accountable. If everything went down the way people said it, at what point should he have stopped. I say when he threw the first blow. However, how in the world can radio outlets justify shelving chris’s music, while the airplay of all things R.Kelly run rampant? From what i’ve heard in tha news CHris’s step dad abused his mother and Chris had to experience a lot of those unpleasant things.In a situation like that it is never right for anyones child 2 experience things of that nature and not receive any kind of psychological counseling.As soon as chris was making money his mother should have used some of that cash to get Chris help.Clearly he has anger issues and it’s a shame it had to come to this.Maybe if got counseling earlier this situation maybe would’t have escalated the way it did.

It’s always going to look bad on the dude’s part. I really think it was a lovers fight like many of us get into… remember both of them are young as hell and don’t know how to work things out i guess.
Rihanna will def get people to right music for her and ppl will buy it because they sympathize with her, i hope she is being truthful. The best thing to do is to come out with a press conference or interview letting people know that they were fighting and she is not going to press charges.
It’s not okay to hit a woman at all! Women take for granted and hit men and expect them to turn away … not many men are like that. I wont hit a women but I see how some men get upset and in some cases hit back because the women is out of control.

Chris Brown did not break Rihanna’s nose, to the one determined to sensationalize the situation, even her grandmother confirmed that. The photo of her with a busted lip, and scratches on her neck are rumored to be fake also. It’s horrible all the way around, BUT I do not think Rihanna is without fault in the situation, and I’ll reserve my judgement until the court hearing. Until then I will contine to rock Chris Brown’s music and not play Rihanna’s simply because I have never cared for her as an artist.
It is sad that people want to literally hang Chris, and yet the same celebrities condemning him have collaborations with Jay-Z (the former drug dealer), R Kelly (the statutory r*****), Allen Iverson (domestic volience case also), Kobe Bryant (cheater/accused r***** (settled out of court by the way)…and the list goes on and on. Yet this KID makes ONE mistake and must of you want to kill him. I hope everyone holds you to the same standard of justice when you make a mistake…of any kind.
if the beatings were ongoing and Rihanna did and said nothing though out the relationship, then I think she is a POOR role model for women and her success should reflect that. CB had no right to hit her but it could very well be in self defense. Why are we all taking Rihanna’s side when we don’t know what transpired?
I do not know who was responsible for what actions but I am assuming from the various stories that have come about, they were not in a very healthy relationship. Both of them in some way at fault. This does not excuse the fact that no guy should ever hit a female but in the same respect a female shouldn't be aggressively hitting a male.
I'm hoping that Chris Brown didn't physically harm Rihanna but I wasn't there and don't know the real story. What I do know is that there are many holes in stories from both perspectives & the all seem a little sketchy. Only time will tell.
It's unfortunate though because in the end they both are going to be hurt in some way. Whether it be professionally or emotionally it's going to change them. Regardless of what kind of a relationship it may have been, it was a relationship and no matter how much we deny it we all know that any type of relationship has those moments you never forget.

i don’t think it’s fair for radio and tv to stop playin his music at all. i thought he was innocent until proven guilty. he’s had the nba performance taken away, 2 major endorsement deals, and the music industry is shying away from him, ALL before the whole story is told. I don’t condone an abusive relationship if he just battered her for no reason. however i am a firm believer that if women keep raising their hands and striking men, it’s only a matter of time before he gets fed up and retaliates. and it seems like that’s what happened so far. i don’t think she’ll press charges. i just think she just wants all the sympathy from the industry and all the publicity. think about it. every magazine and talk show host is going to want to sit down with her. She’s going to get a lot of people that buy her next album, just to see if she has songs talkin about the inside of their relationship. meanwhile, chris’s name will be dragged thru the mud and his career will suffer. i personally think that she did this on purpose because she knew he was trying to leave her. Have you ever seen “A thin line between love and hate”? think about it: she smacked him after finding out about the text. does this sound like a woman that has been in an abusive relationship? she should have been scared shitless. she threw the keys out the window. y p*** off a man that abuses you? then after the altercation, chris got in the security teams suv, but she’s still hollerin that she wants to speak to him and if he doesn’t come out the truck, she’ll file a report. but yet, in the report she claims she passed out when he was chokin her. if he was chokin her and she passed out, why would he bite her in several locations and hit her multiple times if she’s unconscious? who beats someone that may be dead? wouldn’t he have been scared at that moment that he killed her? her story just seems like lies because she doesn’t want to taint her own name.
I believe that his career isn’t over. He’s too talented to just end up by the wayside. I don’t think it’s fair that the tv shows and radio shows have stopped playing his music. That to me is people putting their personal feelings in the way of their job. True, his career has suffered so far, but he hasn’t been indicted on any charges cuz they don’t have enough evidence. If they did, the DA wouldn’t have asked for more time. Second, people are saying the people that approve of his behavior are young and naïve. I’m 27 yrs old and my mother is 53. We both agree that under certain circumstances, he was warranted to hit her back. Now as far as him going to the extreme like that, some women need to realize that men are stronger and can do more physical harm. A lot of women hit men and expect none of them to hit back. Women have to realize not all men were raised under the same belief that under no circumstance do you hit a woman. Some men were raised that if she hits you, you hit her ass back. And some usually don’t hit a woman, but can only take so much before they retaliate. I remember when my parents fought. My father would get drunk and initiate it, but my mother always tore that ass up. When the police arrived, they’d just laugh at my father. He would try to get them to arrest my mother and they just laughed so hard in his face. In this society, it’s okay for a woman to beat a man and she’s not punished at all. Then when a man finally hits them back, society is ready to castrate him. Yet women are always hollering about equal rights. It said in the damn police report that she wrote, that Rihanna did strike him first AND threw the damn keys out the window at 2 in the morning. She was asking for it. She’s very immature so don’t sit there and act like he just went 730 on her ass for no reason. I think Rihanna is going to eat this publicity up. She’ll lose a lot of fans: the ones that really are die-hard CB fans, and a lot of people that don’t agree with the true story if it turns out that she was just as much to blame as he.
I believe that Chris Brown deserved what he has coming to him!! This is the way that I see things: If I woman was hitting me, just because of the type of man that I am, I would not hit her back!!
