Preview: Jay-Z & Alicia Keys – ‘Empire State Of Mind’ Video

Published: Thursday 29th Oct 2009 by Sam

Peep this brief preview of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ video for their smash ‘Empire State Of Mind’. While the clip looks pretty good and the song is growing on me, I must ask, am I the only one who doesn’t get the hype about this song?

Your thoughts?

Your not alone sam and if it wasn’t for Lil Mama no one would even know about that song. Lil mama running on that stage was the best thing that could have happened to it and if you look carefully Beyonce pushed her on stage to help save that performance.

You must be the only one. The energy of the song takes you to a place. So if you would rather bump ‘The Saturdays’ album…. you need to review your music taste.

for once i agree with u, i dont get the hype of the song…. but it is a grower

    LOL @BRITNEYISLORD – DATS JOKES!

I think if you’re not from NYC your not really meant to get the hype…

I agree with Ping. There’s just something about being from New York that you don’t understand unless you’re from there (I’m from the south btw). Britneyislord is trippin lol Bey don’t need to save Jay’s performances and vice versa. Little Mama was just being Little Mama. Stop blaming Beyonce for random stuff lol 😉

Don’t worry Sam you’re not the only one BUT i HOPE the video gonna make me love the song. WHY THIS SONG ? There’s some songs on the album that deserved to be the second single like “A Star Is Born” or “On To The Next One”. THESE SONG ARE DOPE!

I like the hook- it’s ok- hope alicia brings it for her 2nd song cuz i’m definitely not feeling nothing really matters.

I’m starting to become okay with Sam’s complaining because I’m learning he simply has bad taste. Go listen to Mario.

It’s about the dream!! New York is where people go to live out dreams. It’s exciting and tells the truth about a reality. Jay is popular because he’s a lyracist first. Listen to the album.

You have to be from NYC to understand or at least visited NYC..

This song is so popular in the UK right now. It is crazy–it got to number 2 just on airplay/downloads. There are better tracks on the album too, but whatever.

Whatever happened to having your own opinion? Though I may not always see eye to eye with Sam on certain posts, if they don’t like they song, they don’t like it. It doesn’t mean that they’ve got bad taste in music, it’s just something they don’t get the hype about. I personally don’t get the hype either. There’s plenty of better tracks on BP3 that I personally think blows that song out of the water. But when you’re a NYCer, you havve a different approach to it just like people from ATL love them some Outkast or people from the Bay get hype for Too Short.

I like it and I’ve never been to New York. I guess you can substitute ‘New York’ with your state/city and feel proud.

Beyonce did not push Lil Papa on stage. He was trying to pull her up but she declined.

Fatima, u hit the nail right on the head! Sam has tacky tastes in music. He also isn’t from the US nor does he live here, so he doesn’t understand the message. The song is amazing…very old school Sinatra type inspired hip hop.

Being from a big city myself, CHICAGO, I mos definitely love the song! Its all about paying homage to a place that has excelled the careers of so many entertainment greats!! But i do agree, you would probably have to be from a big city or NYC to really get into it.

The Song is Simply GOOD. It’s a matter of what u musically like. I love this song and I understand that not everyone will like it.

    This song is amazing!!
I remember when I first listened to the album I knew it’d be a winner!
Didn’t think it would become a single!

Alicia Keys makes this song!! Sorry Jay haha

i’m from london and heard the jay-z album before all the hype. i agree with dude above me- the song caught my attention straight away and i had it on repeat for days. its not just the lyrics that remind me of being on holiday but also the choice of sample and the overall production-its a banger which puts you in a good mood…and alicia sounds great as usual
