Rihanna Performs On X-Factor
Vocal power-house Rihanna (lol) took to the stage on the X-Factor a few moments ago to perform current single ‘Russian Roulette’. In being the fair site we are, vocally Ms. Fenty live did sound very similar to the track (take from that what you will…) However, I am sorry I just cannot agree with that voice. For much of the performance, I was wondering why she was holding the mic to her mouth when she was clearly singing out her nose.
Tidbit: Was anyone else thinking “when is she gonna get off that damn chair?” Ironically, the chair was more interesting she was on stage!

Fucking yawn, AGAIN. If you hate her to the extent that you think sounding similar to record is a BAD thing then why did you go to her album launch? It would’ve been less two-faced simply to decline to attend.
Oh, and you actually said when RR leaked that she sounded good vocally but she’d never be able to perform it live. Well now she has, and in your own admission she sounded similar to record, and you’ve back-tracked by claiming the vocal on the song is horrible. Hater.

Rihanna has never been an awesome performer. That has always been her weakness. When the album leaked, I knew that Ri needed her performances to sell this album vs..the normal gimmicks.
Def Jam arrogantly thought they could exploit CB/Ri’s situation to sell albums. However they were in for a huge shock. 20/20 was the beginning of the down hill spiral honestly. Even after her world premiere vid, RR fell. Once the exploitation didn’t work, Def Jam tried for the ‘liberated openness’ ..now if the album continues a downward spiral, I wonder what is the next angle. 4 Albums deep and the public still has no sense of who she really is and performances have not improved.
8-9 months of clubbin and changing outfits multiple times and constant pictures, but no improvement on her performances. No Doubt Def Jam gave her all the budget for the money because they were dependent on sympathy sales vs Ri’s talent. She has already said after promo, she goes back into recording new music..Def Jam has already given up on the project.

She really needs time to work on her performances. She’s doing too much flashing and not enough PRACTICING, REHEARSING, etc. Too much time in the paparazzi’s camera’s and more time rehearsing Rihanna. B/c the more and more she “performs” the worst she sounds (to me) Anybody can sound good in the studio, it’s live that shows your vocal ability, and se looses her breath fast. She needs to work on that. She got everything else down right..except her vocals.

I could deal with her bad vocals if she came to the table with kick ass live performances. I really could deal. As an artists she’s week all around. Weak singer and performer. It’s sad she has the all the pieces to be a real contender for Madonna’s crown but alas she can’t seem to complete the puzzle. That’s the sad part all this hype and she can’t deliver.
I don’t understand this is her 4th album and her live performances and stage presence haven’t improved any? I don’t understand. Along with growth in the actual music shouldn’t there be growth to the stag aspect too? Should have become a model if access to high fashion clothes is all she wanted.
In all honesty as a consumer I really don’t have a true picture of who she is. I know who Mary, Janet and Alicia are but not Rihanna. I can’t connect. I thought the 20/20 interview would help me connect better with her but nope. I feel bad for what she went through but she didn’t move. There is something about her that comes across as very cold.
If this album/singles keep underperforming, especially in the states, she’s going to go full throttle with selling the T&A. Expect more nude/semi nude raunchy photoshoots and more talk about her sex life

IF you look at it, she don’t sing any songs with substance. All she does is put on a great show to distract you all from her pitiful lyrics. Yes she shrieks and screams, and do lots of runs,but she still is no Kelly price, Deborah Cox, Jennifer Hudson, aretha franklin. Those are real singers. SO that means Beyonce is not in their league, and each singer has their own range and way of singing. Rihanna does her own thing, if everyone sang alike, what would the music industry be like. Once your in the top ten of album sales, you are said to be doing pretty well. Which means your album is a top ten album. Rated R is not flopping and is not going to flop either. The promotion is simply messed up. This album will ride on longetivity like GGGB. Only GGGB had Umbrella to get instant worldwide attention. Russian Roulette, on the other hand, as a first single is way more risky, even though it’s one of the best songs of the new album IMO.
Anyway, as I said you can all keep hating on her. It does not change the FACT that Rated R is a critically acclaimed album.

@nope I bet people were asking the same question when GGGB came out. Which songs would take it through the year? No one predicted that, the singles spoke for themselves. There’s no need to act like Nostradamos and try to predict what will be a hit. Just wait and you’ll see. Lots of people hated RR, but it still made it to a top ten hit. So time will tell.

Not ignorant. I’ve listened to the album. I said SINGLES. That will CARRY the album. RR hit top 10 and sank fast. The video and all the airply IDJ could buy did not give it longevity. Cold Case will not be a single. Will’s verse on Photographs is too weak, will not be a hit. I like Fire Bomb, actually. But I don’t see that being big on the radio. Too complicated a song. I own GGGB. And save for like two tracks, the hits are obvious, first listen. Rude Boy and Te Amo are easily her most radio friendly but will not be #1s. Te Amo will chart high w/ a hot video but the rest of the album??????

So….I know what happened Sam! One morning you were eating cereal, and Rihanna spit in your cornflakes. Wait, no, you had a dog, and she kidnapped it…wait, maybe you saw her at a concert, and she refused to give an autograph…Better yet, maybe you wanted an interview, and she refused to provide it to you.
These are the only possible reasons that I could think of to answer why you hate Rihanna so much. Don’t get me wrong, her vocals are mad nasal, but I am not mad at her – that’s how she sings! But try to keep some objectivity in your posts. Shock us, and maybe write something positive about someone other than people you want to have interview with.
That said, this performance was okay…I think that she is experiecing a little performance-anxiety, due all the flack she is receiving over her vocals. But hopefully the next singles she releases are high-energy songs, where her performance matters as much as her vocals.

rihanna never could sing: EVERYONE knows that, but what i can’t understand is why everyone neglected to tell her that. She’ll never be a powerhouse but a few lessons could possibly help her stop singing through her nose or at the very least stop her voice from cracking on every note. i can’t believe the man at the end had the gall to congratulate her for that bull.

Rihanna hit enough of the big notes at the end to fool a person into thinking this was a good performance. The reality is, she failed to hit some of the early big notes and all of her lower register and tone is nasally and horrendous, like she isn’t even trying.
…as a professional singer, more is expected of her. I don’t know what to say… I’d love to say I hope she improves with time, but as a professional singer the onus is on her to bring it, not later, but now. If we could coddle every average singer and give them voice lessons and give them time to improve, then every body in the general public could be a singer. The point of professional singers is that they are supposed to be above and beyond the average… Rihanna isn’t.
I think Rihanna should retire with her millions, or seek an alternate profession. But, that’s just me. Her fans love her and are willing to make every excuse possible for her voice and performances, and are willing to wait forever for her to improve because they like her image. All i can do is shrug and enjoy the different kind of entertainment value Rihanna’s live performances provides… which is of the train-wreck variety. She is the Sarah Palin of pop.

There really is no new argument about Rihanna cause she has not grown on any level. Every site you go to its the same argument, her lack of singing and performing. But what counts this go round are her sales.. The reason why sales are so low this go round is not because of the direction she took but her performing slowed it down… She sucks! just admit it, she was off, she still cant carry nothing to save her life and if she had to do another song it was over!

@black that’s your opinion, and I stand by mine. I was never a fan of beyonce, yeah she puts on a good show, but her music is just not solid. Sorry. I perfer rihannas music, hers is more the kind of music I like not that jingle type songs. To me that’s for the teens or little 8year olds. I need something more substantial. Like I say performance is not that big a deal for me, because i don’t go to concerts, never have and don’t care too. I like the music to speak to me. From what I hear of Rated R, the songs are waaaay better than the ones on BDay, when it comes to quality. That’s just keeping it real. The bey fans would never give rihanna props for anything. You all simply hate her because you are stanning for bey, so i don’t expect you all to say rihanna was good. if you listened to the album without being swayed by your dislike for rihanna, you would realize that this album is a hit album. All the professional reviewers gave it top reviewes, but its only on the blogs that people are hating. And you are right they have different sounding people in the game, so why can’t rihanna be there too. That is the point I was trying to make. There are those who are not that strong a singer, but people are not tearing them apart like they do rihanna. The game is big enough let her do her. And I never said bey can’t sing, quote me correctly, I said there are singers better than her, and that she distracts from pathetic lyrics by putting on a good show.

HMM @ this performance! That hurt my ears. I love music and I remember when I studied it in chorus class in high school. My teacher taught us about being pitchy and flat and if you know anything about singing, Rihanna’s voice is always flat… meaning she’s singing the note too low. She was also very pitchy during the chorus and instead of hitting a high note, she yelled it…. seriously! Singers have to be careful with that. Just because you are getting loud in a song doesn’t mean that you are hitting the note correctly. She sounds similar to the record, more flat in her performance though, but that’s no compliment LOL!
Music engineers use auto tune, not the t-pain version, on just about every singer’s voice to tweak some minor or major errors in the notes that a singer hits, and Rihanna’s voice is so bad that they can’t even get rid of the whining and flatness. She’s a horrible singer. I cringe when I hear her. What has always frustrated me about her is that she’s all about sex and image, which is something that shouldn’t exist in the music industry. Why are people so stupid to like someone just because they think they’re hot and have catchy songs. Then the truth comes out and people wanna forget and move on to the next. It’s sad and karmas a b**ch for Rihanna and Def Jam.

Rihanna is also cocky about her self, she thought people were going to feel soory for her, because of the beat down..we did feel soory for her in the beginning. but when she went on 20/20 2 weeks before her album drop, and played the victim card, we called bullsh’t. even people who werent fan of chris brown felt sympathy for him, instead of rihanna. she made a mockery of domestic violence. she made it seems that chris brown used to beat her all the time. people shes NOT a victim.

I never said it was wrong for rihanna to go on 20/20 to promote her album..thats what people do when they have a movie or album coming out.. they go on shows to promote themselves.
now the problem we people have right now is Rihanna wanted people to feel sorry for her. thats why she waited over 9 months to adress the incident with chris brown. she made herself look like a victim, she took no responsibility for her actions too. again both of them were wrong for putting hands on each other……
chris brown on the other hand was on tv before we knew his album was coming out , to say how sorry he is. it doesnt matter how soory he is, still doesnt justified his actions.

Chris has done the interview already Marg there is nothing wrong with him doing it, just explain to me why he needs to do the amount he has done, he has put across his point a fair amount of times, why did he wait until the week of his album to do a 20/20 interview about it? All i’m saying is if your justifying rihanna doing it only for publicity do it for chris too becaus bottom line is the boy isn’t doing it to help him move on neither, its the week of his album release and he needs something to launch him into the forefront of people’s eyes and criticism so that they cop that album no other reason… i don’t understand how people have it out for rihanna so bad they criticise her for things people have done or do worse, come on had rihanna done the 20/20 a couple of days after album release y’all would have slayed her! thank you ella!! people are always saying rihanna did it for sympathy, so why did chris do it? after all, he came out first on Larry King. She only did it once, and I think she did it to get it out the way once and for all, so that most interviewers wouldn’t rehash the issue over and over again. If she wanted to be the victim, she would have came out and do the interview right when the pic of her face swollen and battered hit the net. People would have really be feeling sorry for her then. She was about to release the album, so it made sense to go on a national program put it out there then move on once and for all. Anyway I doubt people buy albums for sympathy. WHo really says, oh she got beat up, let me go buy her album. That sounds so wierd. Who does that? I think people buy albums simply because they want to plain and simple. People are crucifiying rihanna for speaking out, but chris did numerous interviews, but no one is questioning his motives.

@ YEAHYO….people are focused on the wrong thing. they saw the pic after rihanna got beat, so automatically she became the victim. it doesnt mather that rihanna has a violent past, no, to them she just sat in the car and took a beating.
But people like us who has common sence, who DOESNT condone chris brown actions, but see that rihanna had a part in the incident that night, knows the thruth.
She’s not acting llike a victim, because shes NOT a victim. there are people who are getting their ass beat everyday, broken ribs, all that, these are the victims. so people can sit here all day long and think chris is an abuser, hes not.he made a mistake and hes going to pay for it for the rest of his life.
