In what seems to be ‘new music video season’, Alicia Keys has put forward her clip for her new single ‘Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart’. The project debuted on BET’s 106 & Park just a few minutes ago. Keys’ forthcoming album, ‘The Element of Freedom’, hits stores on December 15th. Notably, the first single from the album, ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’, failed to climb further than #60 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This is typical Keys video – glamour shots, her posing next to her piano and shots of the city. I am still trying to grasp how the super hero concept ties in with the song or even the rest of the video for that matter. It definitely seems a bit jarring. However, given the strong support that many people have been giving the song, I sense that it may outperform it’s predecessor, regardless of video. Whether or not Alicia has lost her ‘Midas touch’ remains to be completely determined.

I didnt really get it, but I like the song. But the video didnt seem to match.
Love the song but the video didn’t really make any sense. Can we have one video of her without the piano…..hopefully, this song will do better..it should as it is a nice song with a great beat.
Ehh. Miss Keys has lost her touch. All her videos start to look the same. Alicia in the projects. Alicia on top of a building in NYC. Alicia next to a piano.
I don’t understand the superhero concept much either. It has nothing to do with the song at all. Either she thinks she’s above and beyond actually having a concept for her videos or she’s just lazy. I could have made a better video. Something darker and more melodramtic like the song.
That being said, I do LOVE the song. The beat is hot and I like the direction she went with. It would sound hot as a remix featuring Kanye b/c this beat sounds like his 808 & Heartbreaks.
i think the video is based off of the movie hancock with will smith, she is a superhero that can save and protect everybody, but cant be with the one that she loves b/c she would kill him if she gets too close, so she has to go to bed with a broken heart every night. i think u have to be familiar with the movie or watch the video again to understand.
On the behind the scenes video, she said that the superhero theme is about her having the power to cure other people and men their broken hearts, but she can’t heal herself or cure HER broken heart.

Absolutely LOVE the song and the visuals. If you don’t read too deeply into the “superhero” concept it really projects the “can have everything but the one you love” theme from her previous single/video. Simply brilliant Prince throwback!
Really not feeling this new homewrecking hollywood version of A Keys. Maybe she should go sleep in Mashonda’s bed to see how it feel to sleep with a broken heart. That broad can walk with her head held high now that she managed to snatch Skeletor’s half brother. I luved her pre drama now she”s like the rest of them and her music now reflects that. Not liking the song. If anything the first single sounds way better.
The song is still amazing, but the video was a let down. The Hancock thing worked in an hour and a half, not three and a half minutes. I like movie style videos, but they can’t be too big unless it’s a Thriller style mini movie. Anyway, it has nothing to do with the song. She’s got a great figure- a healthy black queen indeed.
@Joshzilla – the song isn’t dark at all! It is amazing though and I really like the video. I think the concept is that she leaves her boyfriend after finding out he’s a criminal and then she saves some people from him and then when next they meet she wants to kiss him because maybe he can’t help himself but because she’s a goody-two-shoes superhero he turns to stone when she touches him so the kiss is out of the question. Just my take on it!
Her powers are like X-Mens Rogue, it makes sense. Her powers allow her to help/heal others but they don’t allow her to have the close contact, so she can help others not herself. The man is her true love that is following her to just give it one last try but it doesn’t work so thus she is sleeping with a broken heart. Her powers dont allow her to be with the one she loves. I don’t think its that complicated, she said in the teaser that it was a mix between Hancock and Rogue. Love the concept, there are more than one reason people sleep with broken hearts. The piano is just her trademark.
Anyway can’t wait to see her perform this live on Dancing Wth the Stars on Tuesday. Bring on the 15th.

the middle part should’ve been different. her leaping up and singing on a rooftop does not add to the main storyline.

I LOVE ALICIA KEYS BUT THIS VIDEO WAS LAME. LOVE THE SONG THO AND @TRUCIE MASHONDA AND SWIZZ WERE NOT TOGETHER WHEN SWIZZ STARTED TALKING TO ALICIA. MAYBE MASHONDA THOUGHT THEY WERE BUT WHEN UR MAN STAYS IN HIS MANHATTAN APARTMENT FOR MONTHS, WHEN THE HOUSE U LIVE IN IS AN HOUR AWAY FROM MANHATTAN, YALL ARE NOT TOGETHER.
Everybody is saying the samething. Get your own opinion and MAYBE, one day you MIGHT have a shot at being someone too. It is quiet obvious that at one point in time these two people were together and in love. And somehow with some catastrophic event they both became superheros LIKE IN MOST MOVIES. She is obviously his Kryptonite!!!!!!!!!! Being a Superhero, her daily actives are saving people, healing, making their lives better! But when she goes home at night she’s all alone WITHOUT the man that she LOVES! Because of her good deeds she should sleep soundly at night but because of her BROKEN HEART she can not! DUMMY!!! Therefore TRYING TO SLEEP WITH A BROKEN HEART!
OH and another thing all her videos might start be seem the same. Yet, I’m quiet sure none of you have even half her talent or accomplishments.

Ok. It’s truly amazing how we as fans love to believe we are so much a part of a celebrity’s life that we can speak on their situations and know what is right, wrong, true, and false. Pretending to be all knowing is blasphemous, and I’m sure God does not approve. I have two comments—first about the video and then about the drama concerning Alicia and her “affair.”
THE VIDEO: I have never been an Alicia Keys fan. I have enjoyed some of her music, but she is not a singer I have gone out of my way to support. That being said, EVEN I get the concept of this video. Listen to the lyrics and watch the video…it’s that simple. In more or less words she is saying “What’s the point of sleeping with a broken heart. Instead it’s better to just remember the good parts of the relationship.” Clearly the song and video tell a story of someone who is able to fix everything else, but when it comes down to fixing the love she once had she cannot do it because it is BROKEN…hence, when she goes to touch the guy at the end his face starts to crack because that (love) cannot be fixed. At the end her tears even crack the picture frame because, once again, the picture represents the relationship/love she once had that cannot be fixed. In all, the video echoes the lyrics of the song about having a broken heart but just needing to let it ago because what’s done is done.
THE AFFAIR: Honestly, no one here or outside of the 3 people involved know what has really happened or who is at fault. If anything, both Alicia and Swizz are at fault for seeing each other before his divorce is final. As for breaking up the marriage, no one can say Alicia is the one who did that unless they have stone cold evidence that she was sleeping with this man before hell broke loose in his household. I feel bad for Mashonda, because as a woman you never get married thinking that one day it’s going to end. And let’s not forget that there’s a child involved. Nonetheless, these are people’s personal lives which no one here can really speak on. Be a FAN and stop trying to act like their moral coach or judge. Know your place. Either listen to her music or don’t. Either buy her records or don’t. But as far as dictating what did or did not occur about a situation that you’re not part of…that’s simply pathetic and only shows how much you want so bad to feel like you are a part of someone’s life who you most likely will NEVER meet. I like this song and the video.
