Drama: Mary J. Blige Slaps Husband At Album Party (Video)

Published: Friday 25th Dec 2009 by Sam

What’s Christmas day without a little drama?!

Following Mary J. Blige‘s launch party for her latest LP ‘Stronger With Each Tear’ earlier this week, there has been murmurings about some kind of drama going down between Blige and husband and manager Kendu Issacs. Though unconfirmed, the dispute is said to have originated due to Blige’s brother being thrown out of the party.

Initially believing it to be hearsay, a video has surfaced today of the R&B star laying the smacketh down on Issacs at the star-studded party, with security having to separate the couple! You can watch the video, which features Beyonce and Jay-Z ambiently enjoying themselves in the background, above (the slap comes at about the 1.04 mark).

  6. information December 25, 2009

What they say, u can take the woman out the ghetto but u can’t take the ghetto at the woman! Mary will 4va be a hood rat with money- now is that domesitc violence flipped!

So unclassy and so Mary, SMDH!!!

  7. Steffon December 25, 2009

So GHETTO, DISRESPECTFUL, AND WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME. Now if he would have hit her it would be a big mess right now. MARY you are too grown for that. SMH you should know better. You got money. Now if he leaves or is cheating on you I can see why.

  8. Darrell H-Town December 25, 2009

hey most of yall like the old mary so there she go even though they making it bigger then what it is pick up the new album in stores now

  9. thomas December 25, 2009

  10. Darrell H-Town December 25, 2009

@thomas u wasnt there and it dont look like a slap or punch sit ur punk a** down and u r ghetto trash for feeding into this mess…..

  11. Bobby D December 25, 2009

He obviously pissed her off. This is how I look at it.

if that were MY cd release party and YOU p*** me off, chances are I would over react too. It takes alot to put an album together (im assuming) and It was a time for celebratin. He must have came at her wrong. Im quick to smack my b**** around when he pisses me off but its all good cuz im gay =D

lovers fight. sucks it was in public. but s*** happens. I say oh well.

  12. MaZ December 25, 2009

Y’all are judging her just watching few seconds of a video and without knowing what really happened!

    Who’s disrespectful?

  13. 12345 December 25, 2009

we can see the double standard, if it was her man doing that he would have been in jail by now and being judged by everyone, what we see here is a b**** a ghetto trash that needs therapy and people still support what she did, the same people that judge men slapping their women, dont come with the history “man are stronger bla bla bla”, violence is violence and it should never be supported or commited

  14. Firstborn December 25, 2009

She should’ve handled herself better, especially in public. But Mary lets us know that she’s not perfect and she’s still working on herself. This doesn’t have anything to do with her being “ghetto” or whatever. Rich suburban white women slap their husbands too. It’s not right for a person to put their hands on someone else but I don’t think we should make a big deal out of this. Even happily married people have their moments and let’s not forget, we don’t have the whole story.

  15. Darrell H-Town December 25, 2009

@12345 u wasnt there so shut up ull only seen a lil version of what happen that dont show much like people said she did Mary is at home with her family what u should b doing get alife……….

  16. tttttt December 25, 2009

    man beater.

  17. Kenney December 25, 2009

o please! Mary’s too classy of a lady to slap a guy w/o actually being provoked. now all we need to see is Riri slap Chris then we’d all feel better

  18. 12345 December 25, 2009

    @darrell
my family already left and i had an amazing x-mas thank you for caring and here they didnt say everything, the sources say that she slapped him because he was looking to much to a waitress, is not that i believe it but atleast I’m showing my opinion if that really happened, now YOU get a life and shut the f*** up

  19. Habib December 25, 2009

damn ….what about all the s*** she’ singing about no more drama and to be in peace with yourself????oh mary…..smh the thing that pisses me off is that if he had hit her he would have been a woman beater….girl control yourself!!!!

  20. Raychel December 25, 2009

Okay so you guys are talking about a DOUBLE STANDARD?
obviously mary j and her husband were having an argument
it dosent even looked like she slapped him
and even if she did, it couldnt have done any damage to him
Now im not saying her hitting him is right, but people comparing this to cb and rihanna and saying mary j gets to BEAT up her husband is obsurd. did mary j beat up her husband in this vid? NO. did her husband do like cb and kirk off on her NO. so what does that say to you?
    SMH

  21. PinkyPoo December 25, 2009

Wow! Now lets see if there’s a backlash against Mary like Chris Brown….wrong is wrong no matter what your gender….

  22. ladyniki December 25, 2009

Wow, at a lot of you on here. There is no justification for anyone to put their hands on another human being. It does not matter if we were there or not , or if we know anything about their relationship.

What MJB did was wrong. Keep your hands to yourself. The video camera does not tell much, but there are plenty of witnesses that stated she punched her husband.

  23. Laura December 25, 2009

“and even if she did, it couldnt have done any damage to him”

It doesn’t have to do damage to be humiliating dummy

  24. stan December 25, 2009

mary needs to sit down and keep her hands to herself. smh.

  25. December 25, 2009

she needs to act like a grown woman and not a little girl.
if your man is actin’ like that, take him aside, let him know what’s up, and then check him when you get home.
SHE’S the one who made the scene, not him.

so much for all this growth she’s talking about.

i lost a LOT of respect for her.

  26. king December 25, 2009

Did I just read somebody say “so what if she hit him, it wouldnt have done any damage to him anyway”…I’m sorry putting your hands on anybody is wrong, unless its self defense.
I dont give a fug if mary j blidge was a ghettto hoodrat or some woman with class, it still doesnt justified her putting her hands on him.
Hell am a woman, if my man do something I dont like, and we’re in public, ill wait till we get home , then check his a**….
thats y men dont respect us, cause we dont know how to act in public.
and if it was kendu who put his hands on her, all of yall would be ready to call him a women beater…

  27. tim December 25, 2009

i love how everyone is laughing about this

its not funny at all, violence is wrong and thats that.

and have you seen mary? she is stronger than most men i have seen, but just because she is a woman its all ok.

  28. hypocrites December 25, 2009

Just wow at the typical female double standards. Just the insinuation that a man hit a woman and he’s a wife beater no questions asked yet we have this…
The tough little girls on here saying she should have waited til they got home to hit him! Are you serious?
So you’re saying if you got out of line and your partner hit you you would only have an issue if he hit you in public?
Think about what you’re saying. You disgusting spouse beaters. You all deserve to be in prison and I have no respect for you so called tough girls
I bet if you didn’t have the fact that you’re a woman to cowardly hide behind you wouldn’t be so tough then. She shouyld never have hit him and he should be well within his rights to slug her back. She was out of line and that’s it.

  29. Melanie December 25, 2009

    Mary needs to sit down
Her ass is way too old to be acting like these fast women out her now putting her hands on a man. SMH
She really has not learned anything after all these years.
Kendu should have smacked her right back. I bet she wouldn’t be willing to act so immaturely again.

  30. Raychel December 25, 2009

@king Are you serious??? “that’s why men don’t r espect us now….” Child please this is Marys life. I understand what some people said about domestic violence and no matter what it’s wrong but if mary needed to get her
man in check that’s what she needed to do. How are we to judge her for her actions? All of a sudden we’re gonna label mary all these things, when she could have
just been having an argument with her husband. Smh.

  31. MORE TRUTH December 25, 2009

EVERYONE HAS SAID THEIR PIECE… HOWEVER, WHAT’S MORE EMBARRASSING IS MJB HAS BEEN SWAGGER JACKING WHITNEY’S OUTFITS IN HER RECENT VIDS AND TV APPEARANCES. CHECK WHITNEY’S OUTFITS IN HER VIDEOS AND RECENT RUSSIAN CONCERTS AND THEN COMPARE MJB’S RECENT APPEARANCES ON THE VIEW AND VIDEOS FOR STRONGER. DAMN, NOT JUST THE OUTFITS BUT DOWN TO THE EARRINGS??? WTF! THAT’S MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE, MJB NEEDS TO BE CHECKED AND NOT JUST FOR TEMPER TANTRUMS AND HITTIN GUYS. JUST SAYIN.

  32. Manny December 25, 2009

i wonder if walmart will blackball her now, hmmmm

  33. LeShae December 25, 2009

It doesn’t even look like a big deal anyway, at least to me. It coulda been worse.

  34. Jasmine December 26, 2009

Mary is ghetto that is why she did it. I don’t think there is anything to compare with Rihanna. Mary was just being herself and it seemed like they simply had an argument, she slapped him, security separated them, and the party had to continue because it was for her album release. I don’t see what the big deal is? Her husband was right in not making the situation bigger than what it is.

  35. 12345 December 26, 2009

    @jasmine
Who said ghetto trash gets a pass for physical abuse?

Who said chris brown wasnt being just himself when he beat rihanna? rofl

Mary husband didnt say anything, I bet he feels super ashamed for being humilliated like that, it was like mother and son, very humillianting in my opinion

  36. Erica December 26, 2009

I cant believe people are sitting here making excuses for her!!! If it was Kendu doing the EXACT same thing she did, ya’ll would say he hit her., no excuses.

Just goes to show when WOMEN hit MEN, it’s not that big of a deal, when it REALLY should be. The same judgement should be passed on a woman when she hits a man. I have a son, and I will teach him that putting your hands on someone isn’t right, and you don’t have to take it either.

That was wrong Mary, cuz the whole club woulda’ shut down if he hit you!! Let’s be REAL people.

  37. Raychel December 26, 2009

@Erica for heaven sake all she did was slap him and it looked like she missed him. You act like she beat the man up! They were arguing
g, and you know if he were to hit her it would be s
a lot worse. What excuses do people need to make?????

  38. Andrew December 26, 2009

    Couldn’t even see anything LOL

  39. king December 26, 2009

    @ Raychel……….
are you serious about your comment? “if she needs to check her man , thats what she needs to do”….that comment right is very ignorant….thats y man dont take people like u seriously …..shes a grown a** woman, your man do something you dont like, in public, you wait till both of you are alone, and then talk, yell, scream, but dont put ur hands on a man,and when he hits u back, then later on cry ur a victim..,,,and because the man strength is bigger than urs that gives u an excuse to hit him, and not get hit back?,,please with that b*******..
I can comment bout this because Ive been in her position, where Ive acted a fool in public with my man, and then as I got older I realized, acting a fool in public doesnt get u any respect..u got to learn to control ur anger.
theres a time and place for everything.

  40. Raychel December 26, 2009

@king I agree with you but Mary is a person from the hood, and this is kinda what you should expect from her. You can take the woman from the hood but not the hood from the women. I would never do that on public, but people may be throwing this put of proportion. In plus people are comparing this to cb and Rihanna and saying Mary should be hated for what she did, and I don’t agree with that.

  41. HBQ has been REVAMPED!! December 26, 2009

“we can see the double standard, if it was her man doing that he would have been in jail by now and being judged by everyone”

Amen. I agree with everything you said. Any woman who puts her hands on a man and says he can’t her back because he’s male and she’s female, is a COWARD. Equality works both ways! Let’s be fair to everybody.

Don’t forget to check out http://healthyblackqueens.com.

  42. Oh LaLa December 26, 2009

Why do some of you people say “She is from the hood so what do you expect”? So I guess if your from the hood then you hit people? WRONG!! So does that mean that people from rich and affluent neighborhoods dont hit one another? Some of yall are dumb as hell with your way of thinking….seriously!

  43. Raychel December 26, 2009

    At last post
what I meant was her hood, her background. She’s known for being rough on the edges, growing up. She took a lot of crap back in the day. That’s what I meant from the hood Kay?
    Dang I swear….

  44. Jasmine December 26, 2009

@12345 I think you misread what I said.

    “@jasmine
Who said ghetto trash gets a pass for physical abuse?”

I never said she gets a pass. I just said she is ghetto and just being herself. Also I don’t consider this physical abuse because all I can see is her trying to slap him but by her movement and the video footage it does not even looked like her slap touched him. Come on now…security was right there. Do you see her hand hitting him? I don’t.

Who said chris brown wasnt being just himself when he beat rihanna? rofl

I said it dumb to compare this to Chris Brown because the situations are different. Chris Brown actually laid hands on Rihanna, he bit her, hit her multiple times, and there was no security there to protect him or her. I don’t consider Mary trying to slap her husband physical abuse. Hell, I would slap my man if he did something truly wrong because at the end of the day I am a female and a little slap won’t hurt a man. You can’t try and use Mary’s little slap as a sympathy pass for Chris Brown. Sorry but that is completely dumb.

  45. K-girl December 26, 2009

I have watched the video over and over and it doesn’t tell much, we don’t know what happened other than they got into it and she hit him…but really whose to say that when they got home they didn’t make up. giving that they had time when they separated to cool off it could have been a major misunderstaning and the are still together. She knows taking the hit was wrong whose to say he didn’t forgive her because if you look at him and read his lips look at his body language he really dosen’t seem all that mad. they will get throught this and mary knowing that her fans are worried will let us all know the deal and whats going on with her and kendu.

  46. king December 26, 2009

@ Raychel..look I wasnt trying to start drama…lol..I understand where u coming from..
thats y I didnt compare mary j blidge to the chris brown and rihanna situation. its a whole seperate situation..I’m tired of everytime theres a domestic violence situation with a celebrity, chris brown name is always mention. chris brown got s*** to do with mary.
yea mary from the hood, but shes not just a regular hoodrat chick.. shes a famous hoodrat..thats we said wait till ur a** get home and deal with ur husband.
and the sad thing shes a black woman, so the media is gonna tear her a** apart.
the media gonna try to portray that every black women cant act right in public.
if it was gwen stefani that acted a fool in public u better believe the media would portray her white a** different. they gonna say her husband must have done something..maybe she got tired of supporting his a**..
but with black celebrities its always gonna be different….

  47. king December 26, 2009

yall need to lay the chris brown and rihanna thing to rest..I mean dang. I didnt want to comment on this ish cause its not relevant to this mary issue here…b*** dang.yall act like yall was in the car with them that night..for those of u who commented that ,..that the rihanna domestic issue is different than the mary j blidge issue..yes and no its different.
yes its different because, unlike what rihanna want u stans to believe, she did start the physical fight(read the real police report on tmz), that night..she stated she saw another woman texing his phone repeatedly, she confronted him bout it, he deny dealing with the other woman, thats whe she started to hit him on the face repeatedly, with her hands and shoes, thats when he snapped and bit her fingers. than started hitting her on the face and all that crap. those were her words on the police report..
whats why I stated in my earlier comment, you cant expect to put your hands on a man thats bigger than u, stronger than u and expect him to just take a beating.
and I’m tired of people using the rihanna and chris brown issue as an domestic violence example..thruth is both of them were physical fighting each other and rihanna lost the fight..and it was wrong for chris to put his hands on her, at the same time rihanna should have kept her hands to herself too.
but of course with the mary j blidge thing, shes a woman that mean it was ok for her to slap him.(sarcasm).for those of u wo says u cant see the slap..look hard…and if she didnt him hit y are people pulling them away from each other?…common sense here people.

  48. Darrell H-Town December 27, 2009

Point blank they are married her husband aint on tv blasting it as a big deal so low lifes get a life thats why yll single and being ran over by ull other halfs and i agree with @King.

  49. King December 28, 2009

Wow a f****** slap got all yall dumb asses acting retarded. Nobody have the right to put their hands on anybody but her slapping her husband, does that really make her ghetto or is it because shes black? Everybody that called her ghetto trash need to take a look at them selves and their mother who are you to judge anyone else? Go to hell and get a f****** lyfe!

  50. Erica December 28, 2009

    @Raychel,

As I take your opinion just as serious as mine. Please don’t come at me with the bs..cuz bottom line..IF HE PUT HIS HANDS ON HER THE SAME WAY SHE DID HIM..the WHOLE CLUB would have shut down.

Instead of jumping at the first comment you see, you need to realize that even if she pushed him…SHE put her hands on him, if he did it to her everybody would have something to say.

Is it RIGHT for a man to hit a woman? NO.

Is it RIGHT for a woman to hit a man? NO.

Keep your hands to yourself, I don’t care HOW “ghetto” ya’ll wanna call her…she woudn’t have stood for it if he did it to her…so Raychel, Like I said, I value your opinion..but I didn’t say anything to you..I didn’t @ you or anything..so imma just keep it moving.

  51. password January 12, 2010

stupid has allways been stupid . people get all into themselves an feel like they can do what they want . Im a black man married to a black women an I never hit my wife an we have been together for 15 years but I believe some people put to much value on themselves an are to arrogant an feel like they can do whatever they want . My wife tried to get that way at one point an she was almost alone . I would not tollerate stupidity an dont believe no man or woman should but respect is one of the most important things in a relationship an if there is none there can be no relationship . Is this what happened to K C from JODECI ? ummmm one can only wonder . Why do I here so much about black women not finding a good man ? are people to blind to see the value of playing the right role in a relationship ? Paranoia in a relationship can be a devestating factor that can destroy relationships . I smile at other women when I talk with or without my wife standing there . Does that meen that I want to share intamacy with everyone of them ? No ! Stop saying you want a man if you cant respect the ones you have .

  52. brian January 15, 2010

what else do you expect from a scum bag ???? I dont know her at all but having watched her on american idol last night and being so disrespectful to everybody who came on stage …….including a man with without whom she would not have the ability to be in the public eye !! i just dont have any respect for her after that …. go and f*** yourself mary j b****
