  10. huh? December 19, 2009

guys, please, stop with the annoying lingo ‘as the thousands of votes’ etc etc – this may well be very true and that’s really great – but a little bit of grace goes a long way.

I’m a H-U-G-E fan of ThatGrapeJuice and have been for a long while but recently I have been noticing some really annoying habits arising.

Just offering my own little constructive criticism and i hope you take it in the good will it was intended and do not delete.

Merry Xmas both to Sam and Trent and thank you for everything you do!

  13. Kenney December 19, 2009

Um????Where’s christina aguilera at? She sold more and did better than some of these people you listed!

  14. coldhearted December 19, 2009

okay, what’s with the coldplay selections? LIke, seriously, if you were going to include ‘pop’ as a genre, there’s better choices than coldplay, especially if we’re talking about the decade. My guess is that coldplay is the only alternative-ish( (ok, they’re hardly alternative anymore) pop music you listen to, so your sample space is a little limited. How about we keep it strictly to R&B and hiphop, eh mate?

I cant say I agree with a lot of these, why is missy nominated for anything??

& that Best Album category is a Hot Ass Mess!! Where is Beyonce’s DIL Album where almost every song was great? or B’day where everything blinded so splendidly? or with I Am which is filled with single worthy songs.

& Ive previewed most the albums nominated- A Mess, Where are the Kanye albums or Rihyawna GGGBR?

  34. fred December 19, 2009

Am sorry to say but how did Fantasia or worse still Lady GaGa get on a list with the word “decade” in it? I mean Lady GaGa came to the scene like a few months ago and she is being rated amongst artists like Beyounce and Mariah? how many albums has both put out in the last decade?
If its pop/R&B we are talking about then Ne-Yo and Akon has to be in there some where. Love or hate them but they brought something to music in this decade. and these are just two artist off of the top of my head.
If its Hip Hop then where is Snopp and Farell Williams, Nas and the list goes on and on…

If it albums the where is Anthony Hamiltons “The point of it all”? or Maxwell’s black summer’s night”, Or T.I’s “Paper trail”, or Jennifer Hudson’s “Jennifer Hudson” or Lupe’s “The Cool”?

And like i said these are just artist and albums off the top of my head. Am sure i can bring up a better list if i did my research.

I wonder what criteria you guys used to come to your list.. Is it music sales, or is it artists popularity? Is it based on how involved artists are to their music in terms of producing and writing their songs..?

Also you guys made an attempt to cross genres in your selection but i have to say its a poor attempt. All the selection seem to come from Pop and one or two hip hop. Not broad enough.

Oh am sure you can slot Timbaland somewhere in there..

  35. fred December 19, 2009

Oh and Sam i think you list is really compromised as 80percent of you selections are female artists.. Hmmm..

  38. Anonymous Coward December 19, 2009

Beverley Knight. She’s STILL one of the most underrated talents the UK has produced, has remained consistent and yet…. she’s still slept on.

The lack of UK artists kinda hint that/

  39. B**** Please December 19, 2009

Ah too many to list but you all must admit Ciara Promise video and song is classic and epic.

  40. james December 19, 2009

Wow! alot of you guys forget that a decade is 10 years and not just the last 5 years of music. I get that alot of it is personal opinion but you really can’t disregard the early 2000s. Britney Spears was on top of the game and gave us iconic videos like Toxic and S**** 4 u for instance. Epic songs like Since U Been Gone and Hips Don’t Lie have also been omitted. Maybe it’s because the past years of the decade are fresher in our memories but we shouldn’t forget the early years of the decade. My picks are as follows (based on critical acclaim and sales/popularity) :

    ARTISTS:
    Britney Spears
    Beyonce
    Kanye West
    Mariah Carey
    Rihanna
    Jay-Z
Eminem (eventhough i hate him, he’s been a super succesful artist this decade)
Honorable Mention: GaGa – She’s had a great year this year but she needs to be around a little longer to be an artist of the decade

    Singles;
    Rihanna – Umbrella
Mariah Carey – We Belong Together
Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone
    Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie
    Beyonce – Crazy In Love
    Beyonce – Irreplaceable
    Britney Spears – Toxic

    Videos:
    Britney Spears – S**** 4 U
    Britney Spears – Toxic
    Rihanna – Umbrella
    Jay Z – 99 Problems
    Beyonce – Single Ladies
Fatboy Slim – Weapon of Choice
White Stripes – Fell in Love with a girl
Honorable Mention: GaGa – Bad Romance. Again, she needs to be around a little longer to see how her music/videos hold up.

    Albums:
    Jay-Z – The Blueprint
    Kanye West – College Dropout
Mariah Carey – Emancipation of Mimi
    Confessions – Usher
Alicia Keyes – As I Am
    Britney Spears – Blackout
    Rihanna – GGGB

Oh, and WTF! How is Disturbia on any of the lists over her greatest hit “umbrella”. The video and song for umbrella were much more iconic than Disturbia. Also another blatant omission is Beyonce’s Irreplaceable.

  41. grapejuice December 19, 2009

    where is brandy?

  42. MT December 19, 2009

“Blackout” truly sums up all of the dance/dark techno crazy that Pop music contrived of into a fantastic album by Pop’s greatest artist.

    Please don’t do Fantasia.

‘When I See U’ was one of the BIGGEST R&B hits this deade. It even made Billboard history. I find it funny how y’all wanna diss Fantasia, yet mention J-Husky. Fantasia can outsing her, she’s out sold her and her albums are better.

Don’t even pretend with the Coldplay stuff. It’s the selection of people who think they’re being alternative but really don’t know anything about music outside of R&B and Hip-Hop. There are too many damn R&B fans who don’t try to listen to other genres. Coldplay is a LAZY choice.

  52. taylor payne December 20, 2009

Um this is unfair because Ciara impacted this decade more than just “Promise”
She has the best videos ever! so excusing the very bias selections i choose “Promise” by Ciara for best single of the decade 🙂

  60. Anne December 20, 2009

Fan or not, you have to admit that Beyonce ruled this decade. Any legit list should include her as one of the top artists of the decade. The singles list should include at least one of her songs like, “Crazy In Love”, “Irreplaceable”, “Single Ladies”, or “Halo” (all of which were nominated during its year of eligibility for a Grammy in the Record or Song of the Year categories; maybe she’ll finally win in one of those two categories at the upcoming Grammys). Other top artists of the decade include Eminem, Mariah Carey, JayZ, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, and I would have to include Britney Spears.
