Leona Performs On CNN Heroes

Published: Tuesday 1st Dec 2009 by Sam

Singing sensation Leona Lewis performed current single ‘Happy’ on CNN Heroes, which aired last night. While her album ‘Echo’ has yet to move me (or buyers either, judging by its US sales), I’m really warming to ‘Happy’ – particularly after watching this performance. Emotive and perhaps the best live vocal rendition she’s given of the song yet, she really knocked it out of the park with this one. Great performance!

In other Leona news, ‘Outta My Head’ has been confirmed as her next European single, while ‘I Got You’ will serve as the follow-up to ‘Happy’ in the US.

What do you think of the performance?

Though I’ll concede that is working with more capability than most pop singers who are currently working, this is a weak performance vocally. During the verses, she’s not finishing her phrases properly because her breath support is compromised and her vibrato it way to wide and aspirated and the ends of those phrases (again, breath support).

I don’t wish her ill will, but if this is supposed to be one of her better performances she ‘s got her work cut of for her because she’s a little insipid. More vigilant vocal training and working on her stage prescence need to be her personal projects. More is expected from her as a singer because that’s how they are marketing her. She’s not a histrionic pop act where eccentric get-ups and vo-coder will compensate.
