According to Hits Daily Double, Mary J. Blige‘s latest LP ‘Stronger With Each Tear’ is set to debut on the Billboard 200 with estimated sales of 300,000-320,000. Though not enough to dethrone the force that is Susan Boyle from the top spot (Boyle is set to sell ANOTHER 625,000!), Blige’s numbers are unarguably very impressive. {Source}
It will be interesting to see how the album fares after the Christmas sales surge ends, considering the album has yet to deliver a bonafide chart hit. That said, it’s for this very reason that congrats are in order for Mary. After this long in the game and without majorly successful lead singles, she still manages to pull in such numbers. More power to her!

Mary, I’d respect you more if u stopped trying to capitalize on HOLIDAY sales and release your album in the first, second or third quarter of the year. how many albums has Mary released right before the Xmas holiday!! damn. now imagine this album being released in august. I hardly doubt she would have sold 200,000+. and what I’m saying is true. so don’t even try to give an excuse. this is like her 4th album right before the holiday. not hating. just stating facts.

Those numbers are okay but not impressive. Why no mention of Alicia Keys sales?

300k first week Xmas sales is nothing, it’s a FLOP. If it had been released in Spetember, it would had been around 120-150k….
ALicia’s sales were up to 400k+ just the week before Xmas, so that’s not a flop, it was a success, but I’m sorry, but Mary’s album is a flop
I am a huge fan of Mary, but I am fed up of this always Christmas-time released albums:
1. Breakthrough
2. Greatest Hits
3. Growing Pains (one of my most fav. albums of all time)
4. Stronger.
All released a week before Xmas….. She has no challenge…
Come on, who will take her seriously if she always releases her albums at Xmas time???

300k is ok but consider that Mary J’s last 2 albums openned at 600k+ and 700k+- I think in Jan/Feb 2010 her sales will suffer but good for her- her promo was huge release week
Alicia’s #s are great !!

December 28, 2009 at 11:47 am
oh how do the mimi fans explain this? Mariah has more fans than mary, had a bigger hit with obsessed, did just as much promo and sold 1/2 of ‘stronger’….hmmmm

So Alicia’s sales go from 600,000 to an estimated 300,000 (actually selling 400,000) and it’s a flop.
Mary goes from 700,000 to 300,000 and it’s impressive?
Maybe you should try being consistent?

@HEALTHY BLACK QUEENS… ALICIA ACTUALLY WENT FROM 740,000 TO (417,000)… BE IT THAT MARY HAD NO HITS AND ITS ON TRACK TO SELL 300,000 THAT IS WHAT MAKES IT IMPRESSIVE…. I PERFER MARYS ALBUM OVER ALICIA THIS GO ROUND…

Why is it such a big deal that she release her albums around Xmas time? Some of you fail to forget that being a singer is her Career, so she’s just trying to get the most money out of it. If that means releasing around Xmas time, then so be it. It seems as if some of you want to see her fail. Don’t knock her, just let her do her. If you don’t like it, don’t buy the album….very simple.

Go Mary! You know you ain’t doing no good if you are got no haters. Haters come with success and Mary is a very successful woman and I hope she continues to be successful in her wonderful and long career. Such talent cannot be held back. Go Mary! And your new album is fire!

If you are a true Mary fan, your going to buy her CD on that fact alone. I love Mary so buying her CD whether it’s Xmas, Newyears,or 4 of July it does not matter . I been a fan since What’s the 411 , nothing will ever change that. Some of her fans are loyal. I am one of them!!!!

Good numbers for my girl Mary considering the fact that none of her singles did well still loves her. Alicia did 417,000 her first week and is on pace to sell another 280,000 her second week she is doing just fine better than Rhi Rhi lol

I love Mary don’t get me wrong, but Her music is not popping like it used to!!! Mary got a voice and she should use it, her sound is to ghetto, it’s like she wanna make music for the peeps that like the club!!! Going to the club is not always a seller for an album! I know she can get her grown woman on when she wants to, but I really want to her her make a real soul album!!! 90% of these artist are not selling 400K- 500k like Susan is because they are not trying hard enough to make quality music!! These computers have fuck up the progression of real vocal ability!!! I want to hear her sang, not just sing!!!! People are tried of the same music!! Her last album was good, but her songs delivered flat at the end!
