Ashanti turned up the volume during a recent performance of the classic ballad ‘Home’. The singer performed the song on Friday evening at Mayor Lorenzo Langford’s inaugural gala at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. Ashanti is currently hard at work on her next studio release which reportedly will hit stores later this year.
Ashanti’s vocals have improved by leaps and bounds since her debut. When she first emerged on the scene in 2002, many compared her voice to that of Jennifer Lopez. However, unlike Lopez, Ashanti has continued to push her voice further and improve her vocal craft over the years. Hopefully, she applies this passion to her next album and create something edgy and fresh like she did with ‘Only U’.

never really thought she could sing until NOW….wow, I’m impressed, she’s been working hard on improving those vocal skills and it shows, thank goodness!!! All the other “singers” should take notice.

I see Ashanti attempted at channeling the legendary Stephanie Mills’ cover with all those runs & ad-libs but it failed, epically.
Gotta hand it to her though. She paved the way for the non-singing generation (Cassie, Rihanna, Ke$ha, etc) BIG TIME.

I always thought Ashanti could sing well. She has always had pleasant tone to her voice. She has a similar vocal style to Aaliyah.
I don’t think this belting thing she does here suits her. It sounds a bit shouty and doesn’t fit her voice, imho.

I think it’s messed up that she’s the skapegoat for R&B singers that can’t sing. It’s funny how when she showed very little vocal talent, and everyone was saying she can’t sing, she was the biggest artist at the time. And now that she sings and puts in vocal work, shes overlooked and paid less attention too. Show’s what kind of music America loves!
I like Ashanti, I think she’s made alot of good songs, ever since shes came out, ill admit that I did think she was overrated when she first came out, buts shes prooven herself alot over the past years. I think theres other artist such as Rihanna and Ciara, that should be pointed out for there lack of vocal talent, and not Ashanti. Not trying to hate, just voicin my opinion which is the truth.

Not surprised at all…….Ashanti is a great singer! I can name a handfull of singers out right now who can pulled this off! It’s ashame that this girl get the downgraded like she does but hey if you know Ashanti like I know her…..It only drives her to do bigger and better thing! Great job Miss Good Good lol! I’ve been a fan of Ashanti since the beginning. I truly believe musically shes only gotten better too. Like to me her music is more catchy and just overall better as each album passed on. I do like a great deal of her music she released and cannot wait until she releases her new album.
I hope she signs with Interscope Records. I think they have a great promo team behind their artists including Fergie, The Peas, PCD (when they first started), etc. Good luck Ashanti, I can’t wait for her ALBUM!

That was a good performance! Ashanti has grown by huge jumps vocally speaking. She really had some mashed up live performances thoughout her career; which left her with a stigma! (refering to a lot of people saying she can’t sing) I remember when critics deemed her as a studio singer. She proved with flying colors that she doesn’t need the master production of the studio to sing. She just might have that staying power in the vicious music industry! I definitly see she is strong minded, self-secure, gentle hearted, and also has skin made of steel…refering to all the bashing and down-grading she gets. I really don’t understand why people pick her out as such a bad singer, when there are artist out 3x times worst then her and selling plantinum albums. Those singers know who they are too! And Why does she attract so much negativity in her career. She always in the public eye! But then again there are Artist who suffer worst criticism then her! Overall, She not Mariah but there is no doubt in saying ASHANTI can sing!!! Lots of RESPECT to her vocal coach!!
