The UK’s top acts were out in full force last night for BBC’s Sports Relief extravaganza, which raised money for charity. Peep performances from Cheryl Cole (‘Parachute’) above and Lemar and JLS (‘What About Love’) below
On slower cuts especially, it becomes dreadfully obvious how limited Ms. Cole and JLS’ vocals are. I mean, for goodness sake Cheryl’s voice sounded wafer-thin and that’s just a backing track for her to sing lip-sync along to. What’s more, words cannot describe just how much Lemar showed up JLS too; Marvin and JB were especially awful. Still, it appears someone out there disagrees, as their sales and US deal shows. SMH…

Strength, Texture, Precision & Classy Vocals.
Oritse and Aston are the main singers of vocal ability in JLS but they all harmonise really well.
Cheryl knows her limits so I need not say anything as I like her as a personality.

I love Lemar but he’s so majorly under rated! When I saw him live my jaw actually dropped at times he was that good. Him an Beverley Knight are two of the UKs best singers IMO.

Lemar and 4 stray back-up singers the emergency casted of the street I what I saw. JLS was not needed, I’m sure the studio version will be “adjusted” and the JLS fans will rush out to buy it and sadly overlook Lemar.

JLS sound perfect when they harmonise together, Lemar sounded better because he had the lead vocals so he had to sound great. JLS are just as good as him haven’t you seen the X factor, they just weren’t the lead vocals!

Always surprised to see people on chair critizing artists like that.
Please can you perform, danse, sing live, with good and strong voice (what? bronchitis last week? and?), smile, look good (what? divorce?).
Please also speak well, do not have this accent and above all, be NATURAL!
I would like people to be real critics with balanced comments: what was also good on this 4 mn performance?
Just to show this performance of a young artist, go on stage and speak (or even sing), and we tell you what is good and bad!

I think that Lemar is the best male act found on a talent show – he definately showed JLS up there. Even Aston sounded weak – and he’s usually a brilliant vocalist.
I also agree that Lemar and Beverley Knight are the two best UK vocalists. They just kill all their performances flawlessly.
Cheryl’s performance was nice…i really like her music so alls good.
Props to them all though for supporting this important charity¬!

Sam, just shut up for once! we all know cheryls limitations – she is not a leona or even nadine from girls aloud singer but the woman is trying and if theres fans out there who are interested, why can’t she sing? just cut her some slack – she must have had the most awful couple of months and she got up on stage to SING FOR A GOOD CAUSE and you can clearly tell that shes choked up! Anyway, regardless of all that – she did not sound bad! she sounded good and ur always on about performance/stage presence (ie with rihanna and even leona) – well, she has it! she knows how to command the stage. yes, her voice is weak, we know that, she knows that, but there is more to a performer than the vocals alone (As you so often point out!)
Now, moving on to JLS and Lemar, well there i agree! Lemar blew the stage away (he had me in tears) – he’s a perfect example of longevity following a reality show! JLS, i admit, did sound pale in comparison but lets remember they are a relatively new band and have time to improve themselves – which, for their sakes, i hope they do before they land in America!
Anyway, lets remember that these artists are BRITISH! Sam i wish you would support more of our artists. Why did you not mention that tinie tempah was number one in the UK for the past two weeks? Or what about chipmunks success? the only time you ever comment about british artists is to say nasty things about them! why have you not mentioned beverly knight and her promo for her latest album? lemar and his greatest hits? we have more to offer the world than alexandra, jls and cheryl! props for actually mentioning sabrina washington but get behind our artists more!

Sam I agree with you totally why should we put such mediocre talents on a pedastal.I agree UK acts need support and encouragement but those with actual talent, that can sing, perform and dance.Cheryl should not even be featured on any black website because we all know what a racist hag she is.JLS embarassed themselves alongside Lemar and sounded weak and found it hard not to mime.We have talent in this country and it is not those two acts.

I just wanted to make a quick comment about how Cheryl Cole can get away with lip-singing by most of the major press and media even though I know she’s going through a hard time when someone like Britney Spears who did her comeback performance (first ever in UK for years) on the X Factor got loads of media coverage about her lip-singing. Is it just becayse Cheryl Cole is a home grown act that she can get away with this? And Britney has gone through some very hard times too but the media don’t care about that when they decided to bring her down (this is just a point and I’m not hating on either artist as I respect and like both of them and their music)

Lemar KILLED that performance more or less vocals then JLS…I don’t care!. He is a PRO, there still young, but Lemar was singing WAAAAY better then they do even he was a newbie. Aston and Orsite were good, Marvin ok…but I can now understand why JB doesn’t get any parts on their tracks. NO NE should be comparing Lemar to JLS, he is COMPLETELY in a diferent league to them…END!!

To think that Cheryl Cole is lipsynching is absurd! Can you not hear her heavy breathing throughout the performance? The whole chorus is a backing track and she is singing along to it but the verses are live. Leave her alone, she does what she does best…which is perform really well and entertain her audience.

1st time i heard of lemar but he def out did jls………and i luv cheryl but i just had to skip some parts of her performance……it was sooo weak n boring……im not accustomed to hearing the origianl parachute, but damn i didnt realize how slow it was…..better luck next time chick!!

Sure, Cheryl doesn’t have the best vocals around, but one thing’s for sure, she can put on one hell of a performance. If you ask me, I’d rather see a performer with a decent voice than an opera singer any day. Plus, from media snippets, X Factor, etc appearances, Cheryl seems like a nice and genuine enough person. So power to her.

I would just like to say that everyone always accusess Cheryl of lip syncing especially @ the Brits but no one…no one (as I’ve yet to see) has said anything about JLS lip syncing and trust they do it quite often!
She’s not the best singer we all know that but neither is Ciara or Riri but it’s the whole package that we also look for in music today. You can have soulful and blusey singers like Adele and Duffy and Amy but we also need want people who can just make music for us to just chill to or wile out on. Not every production of music defies the boundaries of musical taste but not every production needs to either. Sometimes, just like movies, we just need a feel good song.
