R&B star Kelly Rowland was invited to perform the US National Anthem (‘The Star Spangled Banner’) at the new Red Bull Arena last night, as the New York Red Bulls took on Brazil’s Santos FC. Check out how the Destiny’s Child alumni fared above…{Many thanks to Steffan for the video!}
While not the uber best rendition of the song we’ve heard, Ms. Kelly certainly held her own, and really nailed it at the end. Great performance!

The arena was to loud, and she didnt have an orchestra like BeYAWNce. It was just okay, but her other one was good. She sung the national anthem before and it was good. this one wasnt the best.

It was Fab! Kelly knows who she is and how to control her tone. Singing and sounding good is what is key. Holding long high notes does not mean you can sing( Mariah Carey for exapmle), it just means you have a strong vocal range, but do you have good tone. Tone is what matters and Kelly has great tone and control. She did rush the song a little, but the main thing is her tone was perfect. A

We all know Kelly can sing, but come on Sam, you are just as bad as other people who stan for their favorite artist! This performance was not good! I love Kelly and I think she is a good singer, but this was one of the worst I’ve heard her sing! She rushed every note, and she was extremely shaky during the lower notes! Let’s be honest and stop looking at each performance through stan-eyes please, Sam!

She can sing, and sing well. I don’t mind one bad performance. It really wasn’t even bad. But I do wish Kelly would deliver more consistently, even as a pretty big fan of hers. Beyonce’s voice is not the greatest vocally (to me) she does a lot of yelling, grunting and operatics to cover up some limited vocal range. But she is consistent, and strong. Kelly isn’t, and I’m not sure why….with a voice like hers.

I’m not an American so I don’t know the anthem or its ranges, layers, etc , BUT she sounded good for a section were it seemed like she repeated and another where I couldn’t hear her. Vocally, this girl is the second coming of Whitney Houston. I just wish she knew that the way her supporters do. I agree that she rushed the song; maybe she had to rush it . ms kelly better sing that damn anthem now – lol i love it – out of the three times ive heard her sing it this time has to be the second best only to the tyme before this one – all 3 times she held her own and everytime she sings it i know she learns something new – it did seem a lil faster than normal but im happy she didnt try to stretch out each not turning a minute in a half song to a 4 minute piece which wasnt the point – she went in without the backing of a band orchestra live cd and did her thing – looked stunning and exited gracefully – a true diva – SMOOCHES BABY!!!!!

The fact that this girl can kill it accapella is PROOF that she is indeed a great singer. She has sung the anthem three times. Her best rendition was at the Hawaii Pro Bowl of 2008 but this was a close second. I love the way she played with her voice a little more for this rendition if she had taken her time and held certain notes just a bit longer it would have been perfect. I do think that there are alot of people throwing massive shade at Kelly. The girl is talented, just admit it. @ BLASIAN, Kelly may not have the same level of vocal control as Beyonce but Kelly has the better VOICE. I’m pretty sure that’s what SMOOCHES was trying to say. I’ve always said that Beyonce is a very uninhibited singer. She never holds back. She always sings with massive confidence and control but her VOICE is not the best in the industry and it wasn’t the best in that group, Kelly’s was. The problem with Kelly is that even though her voice is beautiful and her tone does indeed out shine Beyonce’s by far, Kelly spent too many years acting as though she was scared of her own voice. It’s like she didn’t know what to do with it when singing live. I do think she’s grown leaps and bounds but there is still so much for Kelly to improve upon and excell at. Basically, Kelly still has room to grow while Beyonce has reached her peak. I can agree with people who say that Kelly needs to work on controlling her voice better or she needs to be more consistent live(because she kills it in the studio), but to say that she can’t sing(LIE) or that the above performance was horrible(BIGGER LIE) or that she doesn’t even come close to Beyonce vocally(BIGGEST LIE). Is a mass deception on your part. What I find more funny than anything, is the fact that the very woman your trying so hard to defend would be disgusted by the comments some of you are making. IANTUITION, you sound really stupid. Kelly did not make any attempts at growling during this or any anthem she’s ever sung. Who growls while singing the National Anthem? Kelly can certainly get her growl on; just because she doesn’t do it every five minutes like Beyonce doesn’t mean she can’t. YOU KNOW SHE CAN! You’re comments are asenine and who made you a vocal expert. YOU obviously don’t know anything about tone and timbre if you actually think that Beyonce’s is better than Kelly’s. That’s one big HELL NO!! Is Beyonce a good singer? Yes. Has she worked very hard to become one? Yes. Was she blessed with a naturally clear and beautiful tone like Kelly? NO. But we can’t have every thing now can we? Kelly has the better VOICE of the two. DEAL WITH IT.

Are yall trying to turn this into WW3 up in this blog rychere’? What kind of foolishness? What kind of fan stanorade are you on? I needs to get me some of that. Kelly is getting better with her vocals, but she’s nowhere near Beyonce’s out of this worldly level. Some of you guys (crazy stan fans for Kelly) are taking this stan fan stuff to another level. Maybe your just trying to start stuff up in this peaceful blog;) (I hope thats what it is)… because you must out you mind and crazy to really believe Kelly has the better voice. You know nothing about excellent vocals and music. Try again! Trust me you’ll understand when your more hearing inclined to hear on point vocals and facts alright. At least my fan stan ears for Beyonce are in check. Holla!

I stand by my original post. We are all entitled to our opinions and we can all agree to dis- agree, but no one is changing my mind. I prefer Kelly Rowland’s voice over Beyonce’s.PERIOD. If I want to hear shrill hollering like a banchee, I’ll pop in a Beyonce CD, but if I want to hear smooth crystalline yet powerful vocals I’ll listen to my girl Kelly. It’s as simple as that.

seriously this is just a national anthem guys no need to get all simmered up, i loved it anyway i dont know what u guys were talking about. can pple just comment without being biased, she sung the anthem clearly and properly her beautiful voice was everywhere. STOP the Beyonce comparisons it isn,t even funny anymore, these are 2 best friends for that matter doing their thing differently in the industry, appreciate one or both or none but keep ur insulting biased negative comments 2 yourselves..wheesh sam what a job you have 2 do.

LOL @ you all saying that Kelly CAN sing, which Kelly are YOU talking about? KELLY ROWLAND to me ALWAYS sounds bad live, mainly when she tries to hit them notes or scream…. HORRIBLE! Now is she’s just singing acapella in a room she sounds great, not need to scream then. Her screaming on Albums also be off key, she an OK singer at best!

I was scared to watch based on some of the comments I read. Now that I’ve watched it……I can say I wasn’t horrible……Just rushed is all……….Had she taking her time and kept the runs to a minimum……I could have liked it more than Beyonces……shes got to learn to play to her strengths……which are tone, range, and power……runs have to be limited for to have a flawless performance……..BTW I LOVE this woman……

sidenote – does anybody else truly feel that this tyme ms kelly is gonna do it up? from the day she left matthew she has had a 1 hit in like 10 countries a grammy and more promo then all of the time she was with mathew – everyone is seeing kelly for eho she really is and i could just cry at the fact that its finnaly about her and that this time she will get the respect she deserves and i for one cant wait until she does – the fact that she is debuting her track at such an upscal event just shows that her team knows exactly what they are doing plus this is where “when love takes over” deuted and we all know that story – so hers hopings her singles follow suit in which i know they will and god i just scream right know because i am so damn happy for my gurl – SMOOCHES BABY SMOO-SMOOCHES BABY —— MS KELLY BETTER WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
