Michael Jackson Estate Signs ‘Biggest Record Deal Ever’

Published: Tuesday 16th Mar 2010 by Sam

An unstoppable force when alive, the legend of  the King of Pop Michael Jackson is living up to its billing, even after the singer’s untimely death. It has today been announced that Jackson’s estate have signed a record-breaking  deal with Sony Music Entertainment, worth $250 Million – a figure which earns the lucrative deal the title of the the biggest record deal in music history!

The terms of the partnership, according to The Wall Street Journal, will see up to 10 Jackson album’s released over a 7 year period. Included will be re-packaged versions of Jackson’s material in compilation form, a DVD of his entire video catalogue, as well as LP’s of entirely new and unreleased material – the first of which is set to be released in November. The ‘This Is It’ CD, which accompanied the theatrical release last year, is included in the deal.

Speaking on the deal, Sony Music chairman Rob Stringer: “We’re dedicated to protecting this icon’s legacy and we’re thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world for the foreseeable future”.

For much of his storied career, Jackson’s label home was Sony; a relationship which, despite a few bumps, was a largely fruitful one. It is believed that at the time of his passing, Jackson was prepping the release of his new material via the label (in potential conjunction with tour sponsor AEG).

Awesome news! It really serves as a testament to level of impact his star had and will continue to have for generations to come.

I’m particularly hopeful that the new material is given the treatment it deserves i.e. great promotion, creative videos, and is aligned with great brands (e.g. movies, commercials etc). What better way to keep his legacy alive. Long live the King!

MICHAEL I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE , LOVE YOU!!! I WISH THOSE STUPID EVIL RECORD INDUSTRY PEOPLE HADN’T MURDERED YOU BECAUSE YOU SPOKE THE TRUTH. YOU ARE AMAZING AND THE WORLD DIDN’T APPRECIATE YOU. THEY FED INTO THE LIES THE MEDIA SOLD THEM AND WERE MASSLY MANIPULATED BY THOSE JOKERS AND RIDICULED YOU FOR NO REASON. BUT I, MICHAEL, SAW PAST THEM AND KNEW EVERY SINGLE WORD THEY SPEWED OUT OF THEIR FILTHY MOUTHS WERE ALL LIES. ALL HAIL THE KING… ALL I WANT TO IS THAT THEY DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT US!!!!!

After watching This Is It , I have come to realize that MJ was an artist. God gives people talent., and MJ was given the talent of art. To say that I love MJ would be an understatement. He wazs truly an awe-inspiring artist. His craft was such a one in a milion. The effect he has and had on people will never ever be dupicated, in my book he is the only icon. The only artist in which people from the most remote village in the world was affected by his passing.

I’m glad that MJ legacy will live on through this new endeavor, but realistically, just because the news is just reporting it, doesn’t mean that this wasn’t already in the works, or had been completed before MJ death. I’m not buying into the whole, the Estate and Sony decided to do this now, MJ was abusinessman, and it was reported that he had taped over 100 songs for his children, so you know he probably already set this up, befoer he died. MJ was a complicated man, but he knew business. Everything that man did was about making money. I love MJ but he should have won an oscar, for ability to be the biggest mystery in entertainment.

    @ DANI
    @RHONDA

    CO-SIGN 100%

THESE OTHER ARTIST WHO ARE BEING LABELED “LEGENDS” NOWADAYS DON’T HAVE THE TALENT OF MJ’S LITTLE FINGER. MJ (EVEN THROUGH ALL HE WAS ACCUSED OF ) STILL SOLD 9 MILLION ALBUMS (IN THE US) BETWEEN JUNE -DEC 2009 AND SOLD OVER 31 MILLION ALBUMS POSTHUMOUSLY. HE ALSO HAS THE HIGHEST GROSSING CONCERT FILM OF ALL TIME. THIS IS WHY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TURNED ON HIM. HE WAS AN INDUSTRY BY HIMSELF. THEY WERE PROBABLY HEARING RUMBLINGS FROM OTHER DISGRUNTLED ARTISTS. IT’S SAD BUT HIS LEGACY LIVES ON. RIP MJ

    @ MJFAN

You are right for the most part but I doubt Michael made this deal when he was alive. There were situations where record company execs, lawyers, and “friends” of Michael’s like Tommy Mottola, John Branca, and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach were found to be stealing millions from business deals “made” with MJ. These unethical actions caused a fallout between MJ and all of them . Branca however re-established a relationship with Michael and is now co-executor of the estate. This deal being premeditated is unlikely.

It irritates me that although MJ muscial genius is celebrated, it is insulting that people ignore the fact that MJ was a genius at business and creating business ideas. All we ever hear is stories talking about MJ wasting his money and so forth. Yet, no one seems to realize that MJ was smart enough to buy the Beatles Catalogue, before he reached age 35. And noone talks about how according to Latoya , MJ was the one that created the idea of Dreamworks, but his idea was stolen, allegedly. According to Latoya. Or the fact that MJ was smart enough to emerged with Sony and made over 100 million from the Beatles Catalouge, or the fact that MJ and the music companies owe many of the songs on the radio,. They bought the classic Moonriver. Or the fact that it was MJ who was the one to say it was time to leave Motown.

I just wish people would stop talking about MJ as this childlike man, who referred to himself as Peter Pan, and only hung out with kids. If you listen to his interviews, MJ hung out with kids, because it gave him creative ideas, like him turning into a car in Moonwalker, he got that idea from playing with his nephews.

And the whole idea that MJ distanced himself from black people , was a lie. The majority of his charities are black charities or help fund black charities. And think about it, black folks for the most part donot spend money on concert tickets and CDs and memoriabilia, so he had to crossover, thus he catered to white people .And the whole idea of sMJ marrying white women and not black women, well so what? He said himself that one of the reasons why he married LMP was because she had almost money as he dids, and that she was the only one that didn’t ask for any money.

  18. Fred March 16, 2010

I would like new music in the future that was Michaels but I know he was a perfectionist and if they find music in his vaults most likely a lot of it he did not want anyone to hear. So even though Im ecstatic to hear something new I am kinda not because if he wanted what they find released it would have been released already. I miss him dearly.

  19. Ben March 16, 2010

Yep, even in his passing, MJ reigns supreme. I look forward to that unreleased material, and I hope they don’t add any corny post duets to the material or anything.

  20. Caitlin March 17, 2010

    Michael will live forever!

  21. Adam March 17, 2010

Thats a very good look. They say people make more money when they die and this is certainly evidence of it. Funny how everyone was saying he was broke but nobody seems to be saying much about this deal. Someone of his calibre obviously always had the potential to generate money so in that sense he could never be broke.

    MJ is a KING!
