While earlier reports suggested Rihanna was wrapping up her ‘Rated R’ campaign, fans of the talented model can breathe a sigh of release. According to the latest UK single schedules, the 22 year old is set to release the will.i.am assisted ‘Photographs’ as her next single on May 24th.
Word has it that, thereafter, no further singles will be released from the moderately successful LP. As at writing, it’s unknown whether song will be a general or International release.

Though the song isn’t as bad as some of the album’s remaining material, I can’t see how it will capitalise off ‘Rude Boy’s’ worldwide success. It’s neither as instant nor anywhere near as good. It’s times like this which highlight why it would have benefited the ‘Rated R’ project if things weren’t moving so hastily and time was taken with each release. Then again, with the singles not doing much (‘Rude Boy’ aside) and the album struggling to meet sales expectations, her team likely saw it fit to throw as much out there as possible and see what sticks. Whether ‘Photographs’ will indeed ‘stick’ will be interesting to see.

I knew this article had to be written by Sam. So damn biased its ridiculous. Rated R was a great album. Not all of your albums are going to fly off the charts. It doesn’t work like that. The album was a success. Not moderately successful. How many artists have three singles off their album peak in the top ten billboard charts? With one already going number one and another on the way. The album is already platinum in the US and UK as well as many other places. How the hell can you call that moderate success?? There are barely any artists that can even do that today so check yourself. Try not to let your clouded opinions of someone you may not like block you from the real truth.
Rated R was a success. She took a chance with the sound and direction and the thing still went platinum, still had a number one hit, and boasted other singles that were in the TOP TEN BILLBOARD CHARTS.

Truthfully, I hated this song. I listened to and adore her album, but that was the -only- song I didn’t listen to more than once. If she wanted to capitalize off of “Rude Boy”‘s success, she should have gone for “Te Amo”. If she needed to slow things down a bit after that more club-ready song, then “Last Song” would have been a great choice.

I actually like her tone on this song. I don’t really see it as “single material” but either way….it’s a different feel for her and her vocals seem to effortlessly ride the zen beat of the song.

After success of GGGB this latest album is considered a moderate success. I feel like Def Jam is to blame for this because they keep rushing out any and everything to save their sinking ship. But Rihanna should celebrate her accomplishments I would rather have some success then none at all.
Firebomb and Cold Case Love are two of the few songs on the album that showcase her growth as a studio singer. SMH Firebomb would actually make a better single than Rockstar.

A lot of yall keep saying Firebomb should be the next single and while I do believe that is the strongest song on the Album I couldn’t bear to hear her perform the song live…AT ALL. Photographs isn’t too hard of a song to sing live so she’ll be more successful in convincing people through live performances to give the recorded song a chance. With Firebomb, the performances would be so bad that no one would want to hear it again cause it’s such a powerful vocal on the recording at the end.

Anywhoozle, I think releasing Photographs makes a lot of sense because it’s radio friendly and features Will I Am and it will be a nice little song to ride out the summer. I hope and pray that Firebomb is released. None of the top pop females are doing rock music, and it would really set Ri Ri apart from the field. That’s another reason why Rated R is such an awesome album. Lots of variety in the singles.

i think rushing the singles is what killed the album (and is one of the reasons that the music industry has been struggling). it’s still been pretty successful with three top tens and a number one, but the reason the good girl gone bad had so much legs is that her singles all lasted a long time on the charts. granted, she had a re-release and whatnot, but every single was out for a while before the next one and given time to grow.
with rated r, it seems like they keep firing away trying to get an instant number one instead of album sales. def jam seems to think that just because it’s a rihanna song, it should be top ten/five/number one and that’s not how it works. you still have to “work” a single and give it time to grow, especially since the content on rated r is a bit darker/less instant than good girl gone bad.
“rude boy” did really well because it’s the type of catchy, lightweight pop music that rihanna does well. if she had an album like that, she would be doing better than she is now, obviously, but still. rihanna’s the type of artist whose success goes along with her singles. if you pull the plug on a single before it peaks or before giving it a chance, you’re just self-sabotaging.
I have always wanted “Photographs” to be a single because for one, it is instantly relatable and anyone who has ever been in a relationship can identify with the “one that got away”…This song is wonderful and I am glad that this will be the last single. It’s quite appropriate when you think about it. The songs is about looking back on all the times you had with the person you used to be in love with and wanting to go back to then but also not wanting to dwell on it and just let it be…This will be a big hit if Rihanna has an a amazing video to go with it. Also, it fits perfectly. We had a bleak dark ballad as the first officail single, a DIVA-fied “I will survive” anthem with “Hard” and a s*** “I’m having fun right now” vibe with “Rude Boy”. Now she just has to close the chapter with “Photographs” and move on. It’s genius and perfect way to end the Rated R era…Though I know they are gonna do a Rated R reloaded album with new uptempo dance tracks with the first single being the one with The Pen. It’s gonna be hott.
If Def Jam keeps releasing singles rapid-fire, it makes them seem desperate. She finely got a number 1, well she should have gotten one. The girl has had four albums, been in the game for years, and millions of dollars pumped into her promotion. Her albums should have multiple number 1’s, she’s a pop star and that’s what they do. They have singles, not quality albums.
They are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the public trying to get people to go and get that album. People aren’t really feeling it like that, nor are they feeling her at this time.

Photographs is a nice enough listen for maybe 1 or 2 times but Its rather generic, its Not Single Material, Its too BEP, Its like shes featured on the song & not the other way around.
& What happened to FIRE BOMB?? Her (Producers) Best song Ever. CCL, Photographs & Rockstar are S*** compared to Fire Bomb…

But here’s how u know Def Jam is just …..uggggggghhhh… (cant even think of a decent enough word to describe them)…but Rated R is a very conceptual, dark & deep album—no doubt Rihann’a most personal and best effort. However, they want to move on to a more pop-dance sound because that is whats “hot” right now, which is why theyre rushing out a new album…
Ummmmm, why would u want your artist to be just like everyone else? Why is it that when someone is just a tad bit different from the norm and shows some success in doing so, money hungry execs dust it off and are ready to make a quick buck by following the robotic in-crowd? its things like this that make the music industry so not about MUSIC!! its so fake, manipulated, manufactured, and MONEY GREEDY. Its really sad how things are going with pop music today. And everytime i think about these things, LA Reid’s grim grinning smucker face always pops in my head, idk why LOL.

k first of all this sounds remastered alot. nevertheless its a nice song, but its a very generic song. rated r was a good album, but i think rihanna marketabillity is decreasing as she constantly changes it up (which is a good thing) and leaves it very hard to create new eras.

I THINK PUTTING OUT ‘PHOTOGRAPHS’ IS A VERY SMART MOVE BY RIHANNA AND HER TEAM. IT WAS ORIGINALLY A BLACK EYED PEAS TRACK SO IT HAS THAT WHOLE EURO POP DANCE FEEL TO IT AND EVERYBODY LOVES BEP SO WHY WOULDN’T THEY WANT TO CAPITALIZE FROM IT. I JUST HOPE IT’S RELEASED WORLDWIDE AND NOT JUST OVERSEAS BECUASE I TRULY BELIEVE IT COULD BE A BIG HIT ALL OVER THE WORLD.
AND YOU KNOW THE ONLY REASON THERE RUSHING THIS SINGLE IS BECAUSE THEY PREDICT THAT ‘RUDE BOY’ WILL BE OUT OF THE TOP 10 BY THE TIME ‘PHOTOGRAPHS’ IS RELEASED AND THEN THEY’LL GIVE ‘PHOTOGRAPHS’ A GOOD THREE MONTHS (MAY, JUNE, JULY) TO SUCCEED AND THEN BY AUGUST/SEPTEMBER WE’LL BE HEARING A NEW RIHANNA SINGLE FROM HER FIFTH ALBUM. I GUARANTEE YOU.
Will I am shouldn’t have done that to her voice because it’s almost unrecognizable. And I like this song, I just don’t think it’s single material. I think “FireBomB” would be best, although I think “Rude Boy” is the best song as far as appeal, chart performance, radio play, live performing, etc. It would have also been a great transition from “Rude Boy” to her new up-tempo album.
The album, was amazing everytime i come on here ppppl thro so much shade @ rihanna the album is collectivly amazingf to me bt we all hav our opinions..RIHANNAS STILL GNA MAKE MONEY REGARDLESS!!
