The highly anticipated new single from Janet Jackson has finally surfaced. The track, entitled ‘Nothing’, was co-produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox. The song serves as the first release from the soundtrack Jackson’s new movie, ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’, and will officially debut on radio on March 30th. Check out ‘Nothing’ below:
It seems Jackson decided to take us back to the classic sound of her ‘janet.’ album with this one. Never the powerhouse singer, her vocals suited the production well, although many may have been hoping for a bit more from her delivery.
Interestingly, I have noticed that over the last few months attacks on Jackson have been from many of the stans of a certain Bajan model who claim that Jackson cannot sing and that she merely “whispers”. Once again ignorance continues to prevail among the minds of today’s youth because anyone born before 1995 would know that what Jackson lacks in power, she makes up for with technique (see ‘I Get Lonely’). However, in the case of the other star in question, we all know that sound of a goat’s castration is as good as it gets. Sit.Down.

I like it. It’s very old school Janet, which we haven’t seen in a while. I think it’s one of the better tracks that she’s delivered in a while. It really seems like Janet is stepping her game up. With this song, and Make Me, she’s starting to go back to being the Janet that everyone fell in love with.
Sidenote: I swere Sam, & Trent (especially Trent) are like a couple of bitchy 13 year old’s. I really don’t see why they find it necessary to make a jab at Rihanna in almost every other post they make. It’s fine that you don’t like her, but you guys really take it over the top. I’ve always loved Janet’s voice she’s one of my favorite female singers, she can sing soft, sexy, rough, angelic and she has range. This is the first song in a few years where Janet actually seemed to put a lot feeling into it. There was an emotional connection and it does not sound like every other song on the radio. I am glad she is back to R N B slow love songs and for the moment has left the dancing to the kids.
Oh and comparing Bey and RiRi to Janet is a bit unfair. You cannot compare students to the teacher. Maybe in 20 years the convo would be more appropriate.

I really love that Janet has released a ballad this time around. It’s definitely a “janet” ballad, and she does it sooo well! What can we do to get “Nothing” to #1?! It’s been too long since Janet had a #1 single and I am totally feeling this song. SO smooth and velvet vocals. Great production. LOVE IT!

I like it. Vocals are a little rough, but not too much where you can’t enjoy the song. It does have a classic feel to it. To me, it sounds good enough to be a lead single for her new project. I just can’t wait to see her back in full effect and to see a Jackson on top once again.

I love the song!It’s definitely a nod to ‘Again’..and it still retains it’s own charm,and fits in the mould of the movie completely!It definitely sounds like another # 1 on the R’n'B charts..and maybe the Hot 100 if it crosses over to pop and the downloads are decent.

I’m quite the HUGE Jan fan myself and even have danced with a [female] Jan impersonator in Vegas and I have to say after Velvet Rope, no, All for You some of Jan’s songs have been hit or miss for me [mostly due to her not writing her own songs anymore]. However, “Nothing” is quite beautiful and I have to agree that it is pure Janet. and Velvet Rope era sounding Janet. I have HIGH HOPES for the next project.

i like it specifically because it is “simple.” i was getting really fed up with all the slick production in the last few hits. people kept saying, “oh, she’s trying to sound like (insert artist who was inspired by janet here).” enough of that. on this track you can hear real humanity, and i love how brittle and sad she sounds. the delivery is perfect. why would you power your way through something as delicate and fragile as this? it isn’t always appropriate to boom the cannons. here a whisper conveys sensitivity, and i for one applaud her for taking a step away from sex mama routine for a change. bravo. i love it.

Please stop comparing Rihanna to icons, it’s not necessary! Wait 20 years then we can talk about it, if Rihanna still is relevant… But comparing Rihanna to artists like Mariah, Mary, Whitney, Janet (all the icons), hell even Beyonce or Christina Aguilera (who’s coming back to slay, hopefully) is not justified at this point.

I like this song. It does remind me of the old Janet. It’s sad though that people are into these so called “club” songs with lyrics that have no meaning. I’d rather listen to Janet’s “baby” voice anyday. I hope that she goes back to the old Janet (the one that didn’t take off her clothes). Tiffany Evans and Jojo are sooooooo underated as young artists. They have ACTUAL talent.

Those who are hating on Janet, you have good reason. Janet is the baddest chick and deserves your hateration. I am a bit confused by some of the comments about her vocals. We have become a society bent on the screaming banshee like Beyonce, who to me cannot sing but screams in a forceful verbrato. I agree with several of the commentators in which the vocal stylings does put you in the mind of MIchael Jackson’s “She out of my life”. Her vocals to me are beautiful and maybe I have excellent hearing but I dont have a problem hearing her on her songs. Maybe the haters are deaf from listening to screaming heffas like bitchonce. Also her previous hit “Make Me” vocals were very clear and beautiful. If you could not understand her on that then yeah yo ass is deaf, go get your hearing checked.

I like, this song is one of best in years. Hopefully lots more people will get to hear since its associated with the movie.
