Hmm. While the song is not rocking my world (the word doo-doo comes to mind), its accompanying video was a commendable first solo effort. The video really encapsulated Minaj’s ‘larger-than-life’ / cartoon-esque character particularly well. There were many an instance where the overwhelming feeling of ‘seen it / heard it all before’ came over me (see: Lil’ Kim). Yet Nicki’s undeniable charisma – which hasn’t been seen in years with female Hip-Hop – just about redeems the Young Money star.

This video was good for her first solo one.
I thought there was too much scenes of the car driving from far away, but other than that, it was hot.
At the end, Nicki was rolling around in the mud looking like a Beyonce or Shakira. Loved it!

This song..still needs to grow on me. I really like her though. Someone here said that she was THE Black Lady Gaga, and I'm starting to sorta agree with them. Hey, at least she's giving growing black girls a new realm of style to expand into instead of the typical images we've been seeing for the past decade or so. Nicki's a breath of needed fresh air.
I can also clearly see where she's idea ripped a couple of things though.
1 – The concept of the video had a mixture of Rihanna and Lil Kim (I like it, relax)
See: "Hard" meets "How Many Licks"
2 – Lady Gaga's glasses and edge…Lol..the pink glasses when she was in the 'wilderness.'
This video isn't ground breaking, but I can tell that this is just the tip of the ice berg with her. Stay tuned.
I honestly hope she sticks around though.
Lil Mama came out with a similar swag a little while ago, and she was only around for about a year or so. Female MC's are hard to keep around. Especially the good ones.

The video was alright. I definitely got a lot of vibes, in particular Rihanna’s “Hard” video, as well as some Lil’ Kim with all them wigs. Dead @ Amber Rose, and that’s not a good thing either. Sean Garrett’s fine ass (from the neck down) was a nice addition as well. I’d give it a 7/10. The song has fully grown on me though, I’m bumping this ish on my iPod.
I must say, this trick just might win me over as a fan if she keeps it up.

There’s a difference between someone who actually takes something and makes it their own and someone who uses the same concept in every way possible, even if that product launch is successful. Nicki’s very creative for what she’s doing. I doubt any one else in her realm would be able to pull that off. Like I said, its been a while since anyone since (Kim) encouraged people to bump up their eccentricity in black culture by wearing wigs and costume-y, yet sexy outfits. She is essentially the new Kim and no one’s really complaining. I was just pointing out how the video is merged of concepts that we’ve seen and it works for what she’s about x the actual lyrics of the song.
Also, Nicki and Gaga are in two different leagues and genres.
Pop and Hip Hop, essentially. Until international fashion designers start building entire fashion movements, begging her to wear their clothes, and deeming her as an ultimate inspiration when it comes to what she wears, then we can have this argument.
