Alicia Keys To Re-Release ‘The Element Of Freedom’?

Alicia Keys is considering re-releasing her ‘The Element of Freedom’ LP. The R&B singer revealed to Rap-Up that while things are still in the planning stages, the possibility of a repackaged release may be on the horizon. Since it hit stores on December 11th, the album has been certified platinum in the US. Check out what Keys had to say about the project below:

“We have been having conversations and talks about that,” Keys exclusively told Rap-Up.com when asked if a re-release of her fourth effort The Element of Freedom was in the future. “That’s still a conversation at this point, but it’s looking like it will happen.” {Source}

  2. Joseph McCoy April 12, 2010

I don’t think we will see a re-release of The Element of Freedom in the US.

Only because she already put out the:

    Deluxe Version
    Empire Edition

Maybe overseas, but she’s sold as much as she’s going to sell here in the USA.

  3. veebz April 12, 2010

I think she should do a Re-release, the album has a lot more potential if it is revamped

This album is definitely not a flop! I just think maybe it performed the least best out of her 4 LP’s

  8. Steffon April 12, 2010

NO NO NO!!!! The album is very boring, its not her best at all. Just release the dam PUT IT A LOVE SONG VIDEO and wrap this album up. It didn’t do well like yall planned oh f****** well.

  12. Nadine April 12, 2010

By Alicia Keys usual sales the album didn’t do nearly as well. I think she should just do another album and not a re-release.

  13. Richard April 12, 2010

In the UK, this has been her biggest selling album since ‘Songs in A Minor’. It’s clocked up almost 600,000 sales and has had two massive hit singles (Doesn’t Mean Anything, Empire State of Mind Part II). It’s a shame that it hasn’t been able to replicate the success in the US.

As with all the huge artists out there, the problem is that people will always judge it relatively. If you’ve released an album that has sold 5 Million in the US, rather than celebrating this CD selling 1 million copies (a hard task in today’s musical climate), people brand it a flop.

  14. stan April 12, 2010

the single choices were all wrong. should’ve gone with anything but the boring-ass “doesn’t mean anything” for the first single.

i think she’ll be able to push 2x platinum after this era is done. 3x might be hard.

  15. RANDOM April 12, 2010

dont forget the piano this time lol stop with the stiff whinin you not beyoce.

  16. Ben April 12, 2010

I thought the album was great! My favorite by her so far. The first single could have been something different, second single was one of my favs. But as of right now, she has no 3rd single to carry this album because of the whole Beyonce collabo thing. I knew right from the start that if she released it as a single that there would be trouble, and I partially blame Beyonce’s camp. As far as sales go, the album wasn’t promoted as well as it could have been, but the same thing happened to Marian’s last album and it was a great album. She doesn’t need to repackage anything, this is just a dying music industry where the only thing left standing is garbage pop trash like Kesha. Just keep doing the best you can with this project Alicia. I think if she releases “Wait Till You See My Smile,” or “Thats’ How Strong My Love Is” as a single, it would be great crossovers for her.

  17. ~Team Weezy~ April 12, 2010

Not a good idea. I like Alicia, but I don’t think anyone would buy this again because the original was very lackluster! The single choices were horrendous! Like WTF was she and her label thinking??? But whatevs. Good luck on that.

  18. Natam April 12, 2010

    THAT ALBUM WAS GREAT!!!

Her best since the first half of Diary!
Definitely better than As I Am, and Diary was a hit and miss…
So, i don’t care about the $$$, creatively it was really good.
    Loved it!

  19. Anne April 12, 2010

@Natam, maybe you don’t care about the $$$ but I’m sure Alicia and her record company do. “Doesn’t Mean Anything” is just a edited version of “If I Ain’t Got You” from a previous album (same theme/message). So, I don’t think it was a strong kick-off single. “Sleeping With a Broken Heart” is just okay. I haven’t heard a single yet that is strong enough to carry the album. They all range from ‘okay’ to ‘pretty good’ in my opinion. She lost my attention from the beginning and never really gained it back.

  20. Anne April 12, 2010

One other thing, this is just my opinion/theory but it seems to me like Alicia is experimenting back and forth with her voice too much. She either belts/screams and strains throughout a song (like in Jay-Z’s “Empire State”) or whine/whispers throughout a song (like “Sleeping w/a broken heart” or “Like You’ll Never See Me Again”). Not to say that artists should always sing in the same tone or octave but in her case the shifting sounds forced or not natural. I think her vocals aren’t what they use to be since she has gotten older and lost the youthful tone that in my opinion was the major key to her voice (like she had in “Falling” or “Diary”). Now it seems she is not quite sure what to do with what she has left. Her live performances are especially not at the standard she used to perform at. Some artists grow into their voice as they get older but she seems to be growing out of hers.

  21. LovinMyBreezy April 12, 2010

    TEAM ALICIA!

  22. BionicSoul April 12, 2010

I heard some of the unreleased tracks from her album, which IMO are so much better than her current tracks she has now! I’m hoping that those songs will be included in the re-released album!

  23. Renee April 12, 2010

She should release another album. No need for releases and so forth. I hate when artists release the same album with 3 or 4 new songs on them.

  24. Marquis April 12, 2010

….smfh… u people think u know what ur talking about and u dont…this album is the s***!…..
better than the pop trashy music!…and yea THATS HOW STRONG MY LOVE IS SHOULD BE A SINGLE! =)……..BUT UNTHINKABLE(IM READY) IS THE NEXT SINGLE!=) DOPE SONG ALSO

  25. DizzyGuy1985 April 12, 2010

How does an album flop when went platinum?

Some people just say anything so that they can get an “@” symbol followed by their names.

Don’t think she should re-release it. No need to be greedy Alicia. She should be touring and making money that way.

  26. Montage April 12, 2010

I mean I’m not saying the album is a flop but just look at the numbers compared to her other releases. although this album was……okay it wasn’t great.

  27. Face April 12, 2010

yall WISH this album was a flop. it underperformed, but a flop it is not. Memiors of an Imperfect Angel was a flop. get yall minds together.

i do agree that she doesnt need to re-release, she just needs to continue on with the singles and milk the album for all its worth (b/c it is a very solid album) and move on to the next.

yall must have forgot who this is, this is ALICIA KEYS.

  28. algie April 12, 2010

    love alicia

  29. koko April 12, 2010

While I liked the Element of Freedom, I do think they choose the wrong singles to start out and they left out some great songs that only appeared on Deluxe or Empire version. For example ‘Lover Man’ that is on the Empire Edition is pure R&B fire, it is the soulful Alicia we love with a little edge, they need to release that. Also ‘Unthinkable’ shoould have more Drake on it, although Iove it, it would do even better with Drake more pronounced. Alicia said in an interview that they will do a remix of it so that should be hot.

  30. roadsareendless April 12, 2010

she had so many good (commercial) songs on this record! why she didnt release them, and immediately went on tour instead is beyond me!

  31. simply me April 12, 2010

Just one question…..WTF ever happened to the ” Put it in a Love song” video?

  32. Me Damnit! April 12, 2010

I’m not gonna lie, I am and A Keys fan. and I have all of her albums andthouroughly enjoy them all! but I am not too impressed with this one! It was kinda boring and I don’t know what the heck she was thinking with the singles she choose. Especially the first one. It was so boring and was too similar to ‘No One’. SMH!

I could give a damn whether she re-releases it or not! I just hope she releases ‘Un-Thinkable’ as a single cause that is my FAV joint from the album! I already hear it a lot on the radio, I need a video Alicia! Give us a video pleeeaaase!! lol!

  33. Jayla April 12, 2010

    i AGREE WITH ^^^^^^^

I AM A FAN BUT THIS ALBUM WAS THE WEAKEST!!!!! BUT “UN-THINKABLE” IS DA SHITTTTT!!!! SHE MUST RELEASE THAT SONG !!!!!

  34. DiosaNY09 April 12, 2010

Amazing artist but she does not know how to market herself well. Also, the B.S. with the boyfriend didn’t help. Those labels she was being pegged such as home-wrecker did not sit well at all.
Anyway, there were no many good songs there anyway, except Unthinkable.

  35. delroy April 13, 2010

I agree with @ Marquis in so many way’s and with Unthinkable i think that it’s so much better that Put it in a love song. This has and will be my fav track off the ablum as it’s the of track that i expect from alicia. and as for the album on the whole ithink that it is ggod, not as good as the other LPS.

  36. truth serum. April 13, 2010

lol… The problem in the states is that people knew about her personal s***. The same reason why Rihanna didn’t do as well as people thought, Chris Brown, or Usher’s efforts in comparison to Confessions. I don’t know why people are p**** footing around. Then she released ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’, a lack luster single.. and then put out Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart when all media outlets were still on her affair with Swizz Beatz & Mashonda. Elements of Freedom could’ve been an amazing album, a solid effort and so forth, but the media blunder she had has marred her image. And we all know in Hollywood image is everything; and once you fall out of the favor of the public, it doesn’t matter what you do — suddenly you are not as great as you once were before and people begin to doubt you. This is what happened with Alicia. She has lost fans over this… Kanyeshrug. Her blunder was not so big, so hopefully she’ll be able to come back hard with a new album. I don’t think she should re-release this one, though.

Put it in a Love Song is not being released because it failed to impact radio. This is why the video hasn’t been released…. and a video for Un-Thinkable is. Un-Thinkable is a great song, however, it will not be enough to get the momentum back up for this album unless of course she is selling up overt s** in her video. (That would be a shock for AK who has never had to do such a thing.)

Wish her the best of luck. Really though, if people would just stop being fake, it’d do wonders for them.
