One of music’s icons made a surprise appearance last evening. Lauryn Hill, who is rarely seen at red carpet events, was seen at the Plaza Athenee in New York City where she attended the Tanzania Education Trust New York gala. The event was hosted by President Jakaya Kikwete of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Chris will be holding a benefit concert: Chris Brown & Friends, Virginia Stand Up!, A Call To Action , on May 15th, 2010 at the Siegel Center located on the campus of VCU in Richmond, Virginia.
The proceeds will go to The American Red Cross , Greater Richmond Chapter to support their continued relief efforts in Haiti and their local outreach in the Richmond Community, as well as The Central Virginia Food Bank A Feedmore Organization , which fights hunger in the region by providing food and grocery products to an extensive network of partner agencies.

Lauryn Hill is more than likely done with the music industry & I don’t blame her. There’s a dark side to the biz that chews artists up & spits them out, especially the black ones (Whitney, MJ, D’angelo, etc.) Lauryn was on top with Miseducation & then the rumors started (Lauryn Hill hates white people, is crazy, etc.) MJ was on top in the 80s & bought the Beatles catalog. Then the rumors started (he’s a weirdo, freak, gay, etc.) D’angelo went mainstream with the Voodoo album and started losing his damn mind too. The industry is poison. I’m glad Lauryn got the hell out before things got worse. I really do miss her music but motherhood was more important to her. Props to her for choosing the simple life.
