M.I.A. Slams Lady GaGa: “She sounds more like me than I f—ing do!”

Published: Thursday 8th Apr 2010 by Trent

M.I.A. has put Lady GaGa on blast. The Oscar-nominated rapper, best known for her 2008 hit ‘Paper Planes’, claims that the Pop phenom is nothing more than a “good mimic” who “models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna“. Check out what she had to say below:

Do you think those programmes [X-Factor] and the Internet have destroyed the mythology around popstars?

I don’t know. Again, there’s Lady Gaga — people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I f—ing do! That’s a talent and she’s got a great team behind her, but she’s the industry last’s stab at making itself important — saying, ‘You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums’ Respect to her, she’s keeping a hundred thousand people in work, but my belief is: Do It Yourself.” {Source}

    Raw but an honest opinion.

    She’s prodding a bees nest…

  3. Mark April 8, 2010

I think people really just love to say stupid s*** for attention. Because I have never, ever made any comparison OR connection between Gaga and M.I.A….. Ever….. If she wants to be mad, I think she should maybe talk about why Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ video looks so much like all of her stuff. Either way, ridiculousness ensues.

  4. HUMANA HUMANA April 8, 2010

I love MIA. I really do – but why must bring someone down to make yourself seem better? This just seems stupid and ridiculous.

  5. Last Boy on Earth April 8, 2010

since when is M.I.A a rapper you ignorant c***? AND FINALLY, someone talks about what everyone that understands music and art think, Lady Gaga is a overrated nobody, M.I.A atleast talks about racism, wars, things that have meaning, not about disco sticks, more power to her, I love her even more now

  6. DrChannard April 8, 2010

I love Gaga, but MIA’s 100 % right without being disrespectful.

  7. Richard April 8, 2010

If MIA really thinks that she owes all of her success to herself then she is nuts! If it weren’t for her massive promo from her record label with MTVU and with Paper Planes being sampled, then she’d still be an indie artist.

Lady GaGa has always cited her inspirations since the beginning. She sounds nothing like MIA. MIA should be calling out Santigold for that honor

  8. matt April 8, 2010

and MIA is allowed to have an ego after a few “moderate” hits. maybe if a music legend was saying all this crap then i might respect it, but from MIA, go eat s*** lovee!

  9. Jammy April 8, 2010

Well she is right. The weird fashion thing was done by BJork. Gaga is a straight up gimmick,a nd she probably knows it! Did you ever see her sing before she was famous? if so you can see she was molded into something. illumanti or not, she is a tool.

  10. Simply Phillip Brown April 8, 2010

Let’s be honest everyone…..All the things Lady Gaga is doing now, has been done before!

A little Grace Jones, A little Madonna, A little Kelis, A little Prince, I mean everything she is doing has been done before.

    MIA is right!

  11. Puppy Love April 8, 2010

She aian’t lying. Thats one of the reasons why I love M.I.A. Shes not afraid to speak her mind.

Don’t get it twisted Gaga is cool with me, but lets be honest for a minute, everything shes done has been done already. I dont know how people believe she is so original…

  12. RANDOM April 8, 2010

no she doesn’t shut up mia its all been done before but not by you so shut it.

  13. Symone April 8, 2010

Let me guess….She is a Rihanna Stan because she sounds just like those dummies !

Why would anyone speak on Lady GaGa being a gimmick without speaking on the biggest no talent gimmick of them all.I never even heard of this irrelevant woman, yet like many that need attention she criticizes GaGa.

  14. Pucci April 8, 2010

I only know M.I.A for the “Paper Planes” song & the sample that Jay-Z & T.I. did for “Swagga Like Us”. IMO, i always think its tacky for antoher artist to attack another in such a way. I feel that if you have a problem with a person, then talk to them in public, don’t air it out for the entrie world to hear just so you can get attention. I myself have never seen Grace Jones or Madonna in Lady Gaga & when hearing her, i don’t hear a shred of M.I.A.

    @Last Boy on Earth
i think you should listen to songs like “Brown Eyes” & “Speechless” then talk about how Gaga doesn’t make songs with meaning.

  15. @AUDrey_J April 8, 2010

#MIAsoundslike Slumdog Soundtrack, #MIAsounds like a dope sample for a TI, JayZ, Weezy and I-don’t-remember-who-again rap song, that’s it (hum… I may have spent 2 much time on twitter lately lol)

  16. Renee April 8, 2010

I have no clue who M.I.A. is. However, reading the quote she does have a point. Although I am a fan of Lady Gaga, I am aware she has a huge marketing team behind her to promote whatever idea that is fitting for Gaga’s image. It’s really nothing new. Gaga isn’t the first artist to do this and won’t be the last.

  17. DANBOFFICIAL April 8, 2010

MIA can sit on down, she can’t sing or rap….

  18. HUMANA HUMANA April 8, 2010

I think Michel Gondry by far still made a huge point about Lady Gaga’s stupid music.

  19. Dilla April 8, 2010

Someone finally said it, but we already knew it.

  20. Luis April 8, 2010

I don’t care about who’s more famous and who everyboody is obsessed about.

All i know is that M.I.A.’s music beats the s*** out of gaga’s music. As for the show off gaga obviously gets the prize.

i once loved gaga. when she first came on the scene. now she’s about everything but the music. Sorry, all you have to do is read M.I.A.’s lyrics and Gaga’s lyrics. It doesn’t matter if you have a great voice if the music you’re making is pure s***.

  21. Ghetto Fab April 8, 2010

M.I.A. has got to make up her mind. First she slams Gaga for her sound, then she claims it sounds just like her. I’m confused?? And I’ve never heard of Lady Gaga and M.I.A. comparisons. This is the first time I’m hearing it. Don’t be mad people M.I.A. is entitled to her opinion. Gaga is not for everyone.

By the way she wasn’t necessarily wrong by saying that Gaga isn’t modeled after Grace Jones and Madonna. More so Grace Jones than anybody. In fact alot of the folks out today owe their entire look to Grace Jones. That woman should be getting a check in the mail for how many women have swagger jacked her style which includes the likes of Gaga, Rihanna, Amber Rose, and even Beyonce. That whole “Shock” image belonged to Grace. She owned that thing in the 70’s/80’s. The original “Shock Queen.” One thing all of them haven’t been able to do is sound like her though.

What people have to understand is that Lady Gaga is just like all the others on the radio, they are POP STARS. They are crafted and molded into what you want or what the label wants. Gaga never hid that fact. Hence thats why she’s always walking around the street in costume. It’s a game. It’s imagery. Play the game folks

  22. Paper Traill April 8, 2010

I love M.I.A. and a lot of what she is saying is true.
Lady Ga Ga is style is not new (Grace, Madonna, Elton , Patti and everyone from the late 70’s early 80’s)

—-I do feel Lady Ga Ga is just getting started and she is making a lot of artist step up their game. She is very talented and their isn’t a lot new ideas left.

—-The M.I.A. movement is also needed, she is progressive because she doesn’t make music for the radio and she makes music in a very raw way. Their is a lot to respect about M.I.A. (She used performance money she got from MTV to build a school in Africa and she’s an activist). She is not afraid to go to any country and shoot a video in the “Ghetto” .

  23. Nick April 8, 2010

i just dont see it, OK if so…DONT HATE b/c somebodys has the TEAM behind her 2 make it happen BIGGER than u, I like mIA, but she gets NO MORE LOVE from me, there is NO NEED for hate n the world 2day, this is our problem….ALWAYS NEGATIVE, let people live—GAGA slaying the industry, & they cant take it/BEYONCE GAGA RIHANNA — they killin it, sorry…..

  24. DizzyGuy1985 April 8, 2010

This is my thing. If people don’t like Lady Gaga than don’t support her. But her concerts have been selling out in like 15 minutes. They added another show to Philly because it sold out so quickly.

M.I.A was never a huge mega success like she was in the UK. She needs to go back to her nursery and raise her baby and shut up. No body is worried about her. She is just jealous.

Let the people decide and they have. People dress and emulate Lady Gaga but who dresses like M.I.A.

  25. TRUTH April 8, 2010

CACA IS A GIMMICK AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. JUST TAKES HER LONGER TO BREAK-EVEN WITH ALL THAT HALLOWEEN COSTUME PRODUCTION THING GOIN ON… TAKE ALL THAT AWAY AND YOU’RE LEFT WITH ONE BIG ITALIAN NOSE ON A FUGLY ASS 5FT 1 INC SACK OF SHIET.

  26. lihalee April 8, 2010

what MIA is saying is if you put aside LADY GAGA’S costumes, her theatrics on stage, listen to HER MUSIC there is nothing revolutionary there…
Her music should match her PERSONA it should reflect who she is but it doesn’t she doesn’t have anything to say that is different, that is outside the box so what she really is, is a good mimic and you have to give her props for that

  27. newsflash haters April 8, 2010

wow, its about time somebody said that s***.

  28. BRANDON (Toronto) April 8, 2010

    What about Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’?

  29. C April 8, 2010

I don’t know why everyone always comes down on a artist for “mimicking” someone else everyone has a inspiration/role model that they follow in the foot steps of, everyone. Most R&B singers/dancers are pretty much a off shoot of the greats that came before them including Aaliyah, Beyonce, Ciara, P!nk, Mya the list goes on…M.I.A. can say what she want but no respect was meant in that comment

  30. ~TeAM WeeZY~ April 8, 2010

I respect her opinion however, I don’t know why people constantly say someone jacking someone else’s style when at the end of the day someone is eventually going to be compared to someone! Humans have been in existence for too long for someone to say “Oh you jacking my style” Really? No one can be original these days because it has ALL been done before! Also how is M.I.A. and Gaga anything alike???? I don’t find a similarity AT ALL!!!! If anything M.I.A should be talking about Sanitgold or Rihanna. I see more of a similarity there, but I still don’t think anyone is attempting to be like her. I also think it’s rather strange how she’s downing another artist in order to get her name out there. Let your music, fashion, etc. speak for itself. There is no need for an artist to throw another artist under the bus just to prove that you’re original or much better than them.

  31. DION-ISH April 8, 2010

I LOVE MIA, AND I LIKE GAGA (QUITE THE HYPE RIGHT NOW)…

    BUT

MIA is an ARTIST, Gaga is GIMMICK….Dont Get me Wrong, I Like Her style and Music but its not freshh, new, or orignal…plus she relies heavenly on her Gimmick.

And Why is Rihanna name being brought up? WTF does she have to do with it LOL….Is that girl this popular amongst EVERYTHING.

  32. stuypapi April 8, 2010

ok gaga is creative . she done s*** No one has done before including grace jones . and madonna . i like mia but gaga is nothing like her . they sound nothing alike and gaga can sing , aint no denying dat

  33. stuypapi April 8, 2010

if anything shes jackin leigh bowery ..

  34. PAPARAZZI 4423 April 8, 2010

LADY GAGA’S IN THE BANK I NEVER HEARD A GAGA SONG THAT SOUNDS LIKE MIA’S THE LABELS NOT PAYING MIA ANY ATTENTION SHE MAD THE COMMENTER WHO AGREE ARE HATING BECAUSE GAGA IS QUICKLY SHITING ON RIHANNA AND COULDN’T WAIT TO FIND A REASON TO HATE CASE CLOSED AM THE RING I CALL THE SHOTS

  35. Mav April 8, 2010

And people should take a look at Patti labelle’s old group Labelle. They wore crazy outfits way back in the day. How peopel forget.

  36. PAPARAZZI 4423 April 8, 2010

HI HATER MIA WHO ? MAN LIE WOMAN BUT NUMBERS DON’T 666

  37. RATED x April 8, 2010

lady gaga may be a gimmick, but shes still selling more than M.I.A. so whats her point?
when I look at GAGA i never think of any type of shape or form of M.I.A.
so where does she gets the idea that gaga is copying her?
gaga may be a gimmick, but shes different than all the other chicks out there whos dressing the same sounding the same…so what..u mean to tell me people cant be inspired by somebody else style.
she always admitted where she gets her inspiration from. its not like shes trying to say she came up with the ideas herself.

people always gonna have something negative to say about somebody else whos more popular than them. since when do singers/ rappers throw shades at other singers? whats the point

  38. RATED x April 8, 2010

its always the insecure ones that feels the need to get a ego booster by throwing shades at other artist.

if to u lady gaga is a gimmick, dont support her ass, dont buy her s*** and keep it moving.

  39. PAPARAZZI 4423 April 8, 2010

    FUNKY H**

  40. Kami April 8, 2010

I actually think that she’s just jealous because Gaga is using a similar (pop/electro) approach that M.I.A is using, but M.I.A was never as popular as she is. M.I.A has ‘seasons’ of popularity where it spikes. Like in 2005, then it shot back up in 2008 with the release of her last album and Slum Dog Millionaire. I respect everything that M.I.A does, but this honest to god feels like a cry for attention..

I mean, everyone says that Gaga copies off of Grace Jones and Madonna.
But at the same time, a lot of people have criticized her for that AND have also criticized other artists for doing the same thing. Lady Gaga IS original because absolutely no one’s done the exact same thing that she’s doing now. If people say that she is, they only compare in fragments..such as fashion or ‘genre’ or sound, but thats about it.

And about the industry ‘endorsing’ her.
That’s complete b******* because she had to PROVE to her label that her theatrics were ‘worth’ endorsing and she constantly has to shut them up about doing all of the wild stuff that she does and the money she spends for her outfits, stage props, music video concepts and so on. Lady Gaga was not created by the music industry.

    If anyone says that,
they’re honestly running out of criticism because she’s been able to prove people wrong over and over again with what they accuse her of or ‘assume’ her success to be.

    M.I.A –
H**, sit down until its time for you to release your next album.

  41. vegasgirl April 8, 2010

I own both lady’s a cd’s and there is no similarity between the two artists…I noticed this was a piece of a quote given to another magazine I(not EW)so I don’t know if I believe if she said exactly that. What’s sad though is if she is saying this about Gaga who is supposed to be the most “innovative” artist out now, what does she think about all the others? I f you listen to Fame( Gaga’s first Cd) it sounds exactly like what was on the radio 20 years ago- i know i grew up in the 80’s- which was the damn point!

I stated before that Universal Music Group has gone out of their way to make their artists ( Gaga, Riri, Eminem, etc) into stars. Hell now they are even selling all their artists CD’s for under $10 to pump up CD sales. So MIA is right in stating GaGa has a machine behind her, but she (GaGa) is far more talented than most of the pop artists on the radio RIGHT NOW. And that is why I like GaGa.

  42. vegasgirl April 8, 2010

Ohh and I really do adore MIA she really is DIFFERENT than other artist( soundwise not lookwise because people dressed just like her in the 80’s). She is a rapper though because what she does is not considered singing. I notice people always talk about Grace Jones as an icon, she was a style icon, not music icon, I don’t really remember her all that much in the 80’s. It’s great that everyone is throwing her name around so much but I guarantee most don’t know anything about Grace and her music. JMO though!

  43. IVE GOT A COMMENT April 8, 2010

MIA was the first one before Lady GaGa to come on the scene and bring art and music as a whole (because she has done cover art for other artists because shes a painter). She is also the one who use to talk about how her covers had art/meaning in them like her 2007 album Kala where she was inspired by how Nigerian bootleg DVDs looks like. She also did electronica before Lady Gaga because she came out in 05 and electronica wasnt popular in mainstream yet. We had tracks like Hollaback Girl, We Belong Together and Gold Digger hitting hard. In the Lower East Side in NYC where Lady Gaga use to play, MIA was talked about all over the streets back in 2007. Lady Gaga started playing with Lady Starlight in 2006 at Pianos, Mercury Lounge and other local venues. She had a PCD look going on because her performances were billed as “The Ultimate Pop Burlesque Show”. Pics can be seen online. It is also noted that her producer Rob Fusari told her to drop her rocker image and pick up dance music to become mainstream. Thats when Gaga was born. MIA was like herself all along with the crazy tshirts and different colors, wigs. When the fame era MIA Started i kept thinkng MIA and Gwen stefani kept coming in my head the short hair with glasses all the time reminded me of The Sweet Escape cover. The cover to Billboard magazine with purple wig reminded me of MIA’s blue one in Kala. The crazy singing Gaga ooo lala raw raw ah ah ah reminded of Gwen’s yodeling crazy music style singing on Wind It Up. I can go on and on. MIA and Lady gaga have similarities inthat theyre supposedly bringing art and music and performance and fashion as a whole thats were they are the same. its just that MIAs is more organic and made around the world like in Kala where she took girls off the street and had them come into the studio and record them while playing Patty Cake in another language to get that weird chant effect on her song Birdflu. I think Mia is the truth her music is organic she went around the world and recorded her album. thats ART. the art of making your album not sounding like ur previous one at ALL like artists promise but never deliver when discussing a new album. MIA’s lyrics talk about 3rd world problems meaningful s***. I think Lady gaga just makes diance records and suddenly finds meaning in them and makes bhllshit up as she goes along. first paparazzi is about an honage to rocker boyfriends in the lower east side then its the demise of a celberity then its something else. did u just make that up?? what is it? Lady gaga is good at ATTENTIn and majority of this s*** comes from designers and the house of gaga or team of gaga.why djd we want lady gaga to become famous? To give artists a reality check!!! step ur performance up!!! step ur videos up!!! what happened to the 90s where music videos matterd??? wake up people is what gaga is implying!!!! step ur game up everytime u come out with an album dont just say it prove it!!!! prove this first single is going to be a banger that this video is huge! have to give gaga credit in this section. alot of times artists said the same thing and delivered s*** whn they hyped us up for nothing. i just want to see how things are gonna turn out when Gwen Stefani comes out with a new album because Telephone sounds alot like What You waiting for?

  44. trucie April 8, 2010

MIA is so over. Lady Gaga is the business. Gaga actually gives music, not s*** that makes you want to go at your eardrums with 50 long edged pins. Freak you MIA.

  45. Ghetto Fab April 8, 2010

    @VEGASGIRL

You’ve got to be joking. Grace Jones was a musical icon as well as being a style icon. She had straight club hits during the 80s. Her songs were played at all the trendiest and most popular night clubs ever to come out of the 80s not to mention she practically owned the gay club scene along with Madonna. Just because a few of you don’t remember her songs doesn’t mean her music career wasn’t that significant. Her version of La Vie En Rose” is a certified classic and is still played heavily on radio stations around the world. Her hits include alot of reworked songs that she made classics like “Nightclubbing” “I’ve Seen That Face Before” as well as hits of her own like “My Jamaican Guy” and the 80’s classic “Pull Up to The Bumper.” Now if you haven’t heard of these hits you better go google em. You must be young to not know these songs because they were some of the top songs blasting out of Studio 54.

  46. neutral April 8, 2010

you people have a life or something ?

  47. DANBOFFICIAL April 8, 2010

I love Lady Gaga but she really is just a carbon copy of Grace Jones and Madonna, with a couple of hats and new ideas thrown in here and there….

All these people throwing stones at grace jones clearly don’t know their music, or are just too young and stupid to know or like anything other than the mainstream/commercial music thrusted into their faces on a daily basis….”FOLLOWERS”

  48. DANBOFFICIAL April 8, 2010

Listen Wale’s song “Chillin’ featuring Lady Gaga”.
I always thought that was MIA on that song

  51. omzir April 8, 2010

lady gaga sounds nothing like MIA… is she trippin’??? lady gaga’s music aint the best… but her visuals are great… much better then that tamil tiger terrorist art b*******.

  52. MOJO April 8, 2010

Yeah Wale-Chillin Gaga jacked MIA’s style..I haven’t heard enough of MIA’s stuff to say Gaga stole everything from her, but we all know she def swagga jacked Madonna. Her whole clothing and shock factor is pure Madonna and in telephone when she sings “I left my head and my heart on the dance floor” her tone is just like Madonna’s. But the girl writes her own music and s*** I can’t hate I like her stuff, but she was def influenced heavily by Madonna

  53. matt April 8, 2010

why do people keep saying gaga was influenced by madonna all of the while. we already know that, she always cites madonna, grace jones, david bowie and andy warhol as her influences. get over it, if you don’t like her, then leave her to do her thaang!

  54. Angie April 8, 2010

Like it or not, Lady Gaga is the s*** right now, and people are hating hard on her success. Can’t blame M.I.A. Her and other artists have been working for years with no lasting commericial success, and here comes Gaga pretty much changing the game with her DEBUT album. Give her some damn respect. She aint going nowhere.

  55. newsflash haters April 8, 2010

so its okay for gaga to have influences and use them, but when Rihanna does it its a big deal, and she’s called a swagger jacker and all. I get it. Gaga can swagger jack david bowie, madonna, and even grace jones, but God help rihanna if she dares to even look a little like grace. SMH at the obvious hypocrisy.

  56. Symone April 8, 2010

LMAO @ The Rihanna Stan that “asks why is it okay for GaGa to have influences, while it’s not okay for whatshername to have them”………..Duh, Rihanna has not EVEN displayed any talent to resemble any influence from anyone!

You see it’s one thing for an entertainer to show influence from someone else especially when they have talent but your girl has no talent whatsoever!…… I’m not that familiar with Madonna and I’ve never even heard of Grace Jones but I will say GaGa may have been influenced by other entertainers but she HAS her OWN STYLE TOO and she also has a stronger voice than Rihanna,I mean who doesn’t!

  57. Ghetto Fab April 8, 2010

Lmao at some of you who have never heard of Grace Jones. Expand your library youngins Grace is a living legend. One of the leading figures of the 70/80s especially in Fashion. She was a well known model too (obviously). She practically put Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler (who Gaga wears ALOT) on the map. Just about all her album covers are ICONIC. Go search her name in Youtube, Google, hell even Wikipedia. Maybe I’ll email TGJ to feature her for you youngins. Yall need to know who came before your favorite stars!

  58. newsflash haters April 8, 2010

@symone talent is subjective. You say she don’t have talent and I say she do. Different strokes for different folks. I probably won’t like all the artists you do, and you probably wouldn’t like all of mine, because we are all different and have different tastes. Gaga does not have a stronger voice than rihanna. She has her own style and rihanna has hers, and thats all that matter. You say gaga have talent and I’ll say she don’t and she is not my cup of tea. and thats fine, because of what I said before you have your own taste in music and i have mine. example you think Chris brown is talented, i think trey songz , and Usher are talented, and they are more my type of artist. You see where i’m going. Different strokes for different folks.

  59. IHAVEACOMMENT April 8, 2010

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT—- Rihanna is just the Black version of Pink the singer. I dont buy her rocker edge. Does rihanna even listen to guns and roses? iron maiden? Lady Gaga who came from the rock scene in New York could dress like that if she wanted to cause she knows the music. Rob Fusari told her to change her rocker image to dance. Dont dress like a rocker unless you listened to the music and can name bands or even have the attitude like Pink it just makes u look like a poser. Getting jumped by chris brown and not even coming out of it with a hood story of how u f***ed the guy up or anything badass makes u look stupid. the fact that u dont look hood or badass anymore and making a record of how hard u are makes u retarted. shes from barbados not from the HOOD.

    • SoraGenNext September 9, 2018

@IHAVEACOMMENT I’m glad I didn’t see this comment in 2010. 1) Rock music came out of the BLACK community, so listing white artists to state someone’s relevancy to rock is flawed. They are cultural appropriators at its finest and don’t understand that rock and roll was a mixture of SOUL to an electric guitar. 2) The HOOD isn’t all about American ghettos. Barbados has “hoods” too. This comment is seriously so ignorant and uneducated, it sounds like it came from a 12 year old.

  60. whatever April 8, 2010

    ^^^ side eye, roll eyes^^

  61. whatever April 8, 2010

Not because rihanna came from barbados means she haven’t heard or been exposed to rock music. I am from the islands, and we hear all types of music down there. So its okay to like a different kind of music and perform it if you wish. And since when did Gaga come from the rock scene in NY. Last time I checked she was singing songs like Nora Jones and Alanis morisette before she transformed into the Gaga personality, which I might add is not her natural self, it was a persona she took on in order to make it in the industry.

  62. Ghetto Fab April 8, 2010

    @ IHAVEACOMMENT

What does being from Barbados and being from the hood have to do with one another? Clearly your retarded ass has never been to the islands because most of their slums will make your worst looking hood in US, CN, and UK look like a castle. I’m from the West Indies and I will tell you that we have hoods that are more hood than yours will ever be. Don’t get the islands mixed up with them One Love commercials. This is the West Indies not a Sandals Resort commercial dumb ass. And what does her being from Barbados have to do with what she listens to? Yes its the islands and we like our Reggae and Soca (amongst other genres) but we do listen to ALOT of foreign genres. We aren’t sitting around listening to Sean Paul all day moron. Realize who you are talking about. Steups!

…Lady Gaga does not claim to be anything more than a pop singer, writer, and performance artist. She does not claim to be the next madonna, and does not claim to be claiming new ground in pop music.

  64. Artee66 April 8, 2010

MIA needs to shut the F… up and and accept Lady Gaga’s talent.

    MIA get a HOBBY puuulease!

  65. DieGAGA April 8, 2010

i THINK ARTEE66 needs to shut the f*** up! You dont even know MIA. If you did, then you wouldnt be defending fakey gaga.

Get over it you gaga queen!! and go F**K fist brown!

  66. ARTEE66 April 8, 2010

Well if MIA would have Lady Gaga’s success she too could be having one hundred thousand people employed…. BUT since she doesn’t all she can do is hate and wish she could help out 100,000 people (who probably need the job anyways). …….. So I recommend she shut the f*** up go back in the studio and prove her talent by coming out with better s*** and making more fans!!!!!!!

As for DIEGAGA hater, shove a d*** down your throat and chase it down with a bowl of s***!! As Lady Gaga would say “God loves you for who u are”, all though your nothing but a hater!

  67. zsjk April 9, 2010

she’s got a point. Lady gaga talks of how original and different her music is, but really her music is nothing new – it’s just her fashion and style that’s eccentric.

  68. S*** April 9, 2010

I think Both Generally are S*** but @ M.I.A- CHILE, YOU AINT NEVER LIED. I Agree with everything she said, Its so True.

  69. Coffeee April 9, 2010

M.I.A. is saying the TRUTH! We all know that…but thats how industry works…

  70. tweetypiebabe1 April 9, 2010

I get what she’s saying even though some might say it’s quite a crude way of saying it but basically Gaga’s music itself isn’t that revolutionary but her image and style is which is quite true if you really look at it.

  71. keasy April 9, 2010

this b**** just mad cuz she broke as hell. and gaga is the s***. wdf. get a life b**** talking s*** about gaga is not ONLY pointless… but is NOT going to make u relevant. if anything your paper planes ass need to be trying to do a song with her so you are somewhat IMPORTANT. bye girl fly girl

when you a bad a b****… h*** always hate… they STILL hate beyonce. its koo gaga *muah

  72. Kevin April 10, 2010

Lady Gaga has never claimed to be original. She claims to be herself, NOT, original. People are so ignorant.

  73. Random J April 12, 2010

Say what you will about M.I.A wanting attention and being broke. But she is speaking the truth about Gaga. I got love for Gaga. But M.I.A was 100% right in what she said.

I totally thought Paparazzi WAS SUNG BY GWEN STEFANI when I first hear it. Such a rip off of a bunch of Gwen songs, Wind It Up for one.

  75. Thierry August 10, 2010

She is the biggest M.I.A. wannabe going yet.

  76. Hillz0rz May 27, 2011

I have always hated MIA’s music. I didn’t like Paper Planes, and I can’t stand her voice. Now I can say I at least respect the b****. Mad props on calling Lady Gaga out on EXACTLY what she is.
