It’s great to see Rihanna using her fame for such a good cause. However, there is no doubt that many people have yet to forget how poorly she handled her last charitable endeavour. Still, where so many lives concerned, every donation counts.

While I commend Rihanna for trying to educate and raise awareness about luekemia, I cannot forget how poorly she handle the passing of Jasmine. I am not suggesting Rihanna should have made some sort of public, grieving declaration for Jasmine. But to find out from Jasmine’s mother that a young woman her daughter enjoyed being around so much did not bother to personally call or send a card of condolence. These type of actions make me seriously doubt the geniune nature of some celebrities getting involve w/ serious issues like cancer, A***, or social injustice. I wouldn’t be surprise if this PSA was arrange by Rihanna’s handlers to remedy the criticism she probably receive after Jasmine’s mom stated the only public figure to contact her after Jasmine’s death were the Obamas. The same goes for Kelly Rowland and other celebrities who took pictures and hung out with Jasmine for the cameras and so forth while a search for a bone marrow was nationally underway. Kelly knew Jasmine, but according to the mom, made no effort to contact by phone, letter, card, etc. to offer condolence. I wish celebrities understand these issues are serious are not something to play around with for the sake of popularity at the moment or image. These are human lives. This is real life.

And we all know that ignorant haters don’t know that Rihanna had a foundation for terminally ill children since 06′ and partnered with DKMS well before she even met Jasmina, and by the way, it’s Jasmina, not Jasmine. Get it right. Jasmina wasn’t even the first cancer patient that Ri ever got involved with, she was just the one that garnered the most publicity because Rihanna got People magazine to co-sponsor a bone marrow drive with her foundation, and because after Rihanna visited Jasmina, everyone from Kelly Rowland to the Obamas began showing interest. I agree that it would’ve been in better taste for Rihanna to send personal condolences to Jasmina’s family, and that it was a mistake on her part not to do so, but the fact that she didn’t doesn’t take away anything away from what Rihanna did for Jasmina when she was alive.

People saying that Rihanna did this PSA as some kind of damage control for the “Jasmina’s mother” flap really don’t have a leg to stand on. The flap didn’t impact Rihanna’s sales any. Rated R album sales were actually up, the week after the story broke, largely because of the success of Rude Boy. Not to mention that Rihanna’s had the #1 single in the US and #1 worldwide for the past 3 weeks.
It’s really sad that Jasmina will always be known as the girl that Rihanna susposedly used for publicity rather than a little girl who faught luekimia, met many people, and lived her life to the fullest but sadly lost her battle…

Referring to Jasmina as “the dead child” is factual, unlike your ignorant, yes ignorant, attempts at spelling said dead child’s name (since you claim to be in the know) and using said deceased girl as a talking point to support baseless rumors and innuendo. Based on her sales and the lack of ink, bandwidth, and attention that the mainstream media has devoted to the controversy, the Jasmina flap has done no lasting harm to Rihanna’s image. If in fact the controversy were harming Rihanna, DKMS wouldn’t have allowed her to speak on their behalf in a PSA. On the contrary, Rihanna’s partnership with DKMS has only brought them more donations (monetary and bone marrow) and more publicity.
If you even bothered to listen to the PSA, you would’ve noticed that it’s a “get out the vote” effort for a Pepsi grant. Now if you were really clever, you would’ve made the link between Pepsi and Rihanna, instead of Rihanna and Jasmina, given the fact that Pepsi sponsored her show at one of the Superbowl events. You obviously have an axe to grind, and it isn’t beneath you to use dead children in your agenda, even if you have to be shamed into spelling their names correctly.

Yes, it is strategic, strategic in the sense that Rihanna uses corporate brands to plug DKMS, nothing more, the same as she did when she plugged DKMS in People magazine when searching for a bone marrow donor for Jasmina. And again, if her sales went up the week after the flap, and her single has been #1 for three weeks straight, what lasting hit did her image take, that would prompt Rihanna to make some sort of public, apologetic gesture? This lasting image hit you keep referring to just isn’t there. Why would she publically apologize for a statement that Jasmina’s mother denied ever writing in the first place? No comment was offered from Rihanna’s camp regarding the whole situation.
So let’s review. You claim to be in the know, just not enough in the know to spell Jasmina’s name right, until pressed to do so. I’ve given you multiple reasons justifying the PSA, including Rihanna’s history with her charitable foundation, and her involvement with DKMS, which harkens back to before she ever met Jasmina, as well as Pepsi’s connection to Rihanna which she cross promoted in the video. All you have to offer to support your POV is weak a theory about mending a “messy” situation, which has been proven not to have any lasting negative effect on Rihanna based on her sales and promo opportunities. You ask, why hasn’t she done a DKMS PSA before? I answer, Rihanna has never done a Pepsi gig (that I know of) before the Superbowl event, and this is the first year that Pepsi is offering their Refresh Project grants, but you still revert back to this Jasmina controversy, which has had no impact, whatsoever on her career other than to provide her detractors with more fodder.
