New Song: Fantasia – ‘Man of the House’

Published: Friday 16th Apr 2010 by Sam

A new song from Fantasia has surfaced in the form of ‘Man of the House’. Produced by hitmaker Polow Da Don, the track is said to be lifted from the 25 year old’s forthcoming 3rd studio album.

While the production on this one is top notch, the same can not be said for the song more generally. Vocally, the American Idol alum is perhaps the most restrained she’s ever been on a record; while lyrically the song’s subject matter comes across archaic and dated. A decent effort (which may garner her some Urban radio play), yet our girl is going to need to come much harder than this to make folk sit up and pay attention.

Hit or Miss?

Any half-singing R&B singer could’ve sung that song. Even though we all know she can sing her ass off, she should still showcase it in every one of her songs.

HIT!! GLAD 2 SEE ANOTHER ARTIST BESIDES RIHANNA & BEYONCE. U GO GIRL

While I wouldn’t call the subject matter of the song archaic, it does sound toned down. Sometimes Fanny’s screaming and hollering bothers me, but I would take that over this.

It isn’t the lyrics that underwhelm me, or even Tasia’s restrained vocals, it’s the production. Polow Da Don is such a hit and miss producer, and this material right here is very lazy. There isn’t anything unique about the sound, which I think it doesn’t really suit Fantasia’s voice. She sounds brilliant on melodic soul and R&B, and Missy has been able to write her a club banger that fits her as well. But this is just a lazy, busy, backdrop under a restrained Tasia vocal. Not album worthy, but still a decent enough song.

I think that reality show has played us all…more and more, I think “Move On Me” is going to be the first single on this album, because we haven’t heard a peep or a longer snippet from it since it aired on the show…they’re keeping that close to the chest for a reason.

I lvoe the song…I see the hear the potential…and very catchy liisten a couple times and you’ll be hooked….after one listen you remember the chorus!

I guess Fantasia is trying to tone it down for this album. Last time around everyone said she was too OUT THERE. This time around everyone feel she is reserved. People make up your mind. Fantasia has NEVER, and I repeat NEVER put out a poor album. So I would seriously doubt this record would be. I just feel that the label doesnt really know what do with Fantasia right now.

My suggestion: Just clean up her image. Stop taking off the shoes everytime you perform, ITS UNEEDED. Cover most of the tattoos up (Take Monica for instance, she has cleaned her image and her record is doing great). Overall, just tone it down image wise. Dont change your voice Fanny, we love that just the way it is. FOREAL(In Fantasia’s voice).

This time around Tasia’s vocals are more Controled and mature! This record is one of those records that you can bump in your car. I do believe Polow had better productions but its a real nice effort. Her last album really didn’t have a “happy medium”.. this album will.. including this track. So it’s like when she takes it to church aka “screaming”.. ppl dont like it and when she is simply laid back ppl dont like.. Still she is goin to do her! She’s just gettin her swagger back! I’m ready for this album this summer!

  14. BEBE April 16, 2010

STOP HATING, THE SONG WAS HOT AND NICE
HER VOCALS WASNT THE LOUDEST BUT IT CAN BE A GREAT SINGLE
WHEN SHE SINGS TO HER HIGHEST POTENTIAL, YOU SAY SHE TRIES TOO HARD
GIFT IS A GIFT, GIRL GOT IT, SHE HAS TO TRY DIFFERENT THINGS AND THAT INCLUDES DIFFERENT VOCAL RANGE
    THE SONG IS HOT

Fantasia looks more beautiful and than she has looked in a long time. She sounds wonderful as usual and there’s even a maturity in her voice now.

FANTASIA’S FIRST SINGLE IS EVEN ANGELS. AND THIS IS A GREAT SONG. IT IS NOT MEANT TO BLOW ANYBODY OUT OF THE WATER. GO LISTEN TO “NEVER”, “ON AND ON”, “EX YOU” THOSE ARE THE SONGS YOU SHOULD ADD ON HERE AND ASK THE QUESTION HIT OR MISS…THEY WOULD ALL BE HITS!

  20. Keshia April 18, 2010

    This song is HOT!!!!

Fantasia is in a class by herself and I can’t wait for the album because I know she won’t disappoint. This is something that I can definitely see getting a lot of airplay in the summer. The beat is hot and the lyrics along with Fanasia’s vocals are refreshing.

  22. MRS. PHILLIPS May 29, 2010

FANTASIA, TASIA, FANNY….Whatever u wanna call her…she has done it again!!

THIS IS GONNA BE AN ANTHEM FOR THE UPPER COMING SUMMER…. Someone needed to say it and she as only Tasia could. I love this song…I am TRULY antisipating the drop of her new cd…

Thanks Tasia for doing it again

  23. R.A.I.N. June 29, 2010

it’s a hit even though Ne-Yo did the ghost writing for it. So if Ne-Yo wrote it then it sells.

  24. R.A.I.N. June 29, 2010

If you don’t agree check out ne-Yo’s new mixtape Champange Life. He sings the whole song as a Demo Track for her. So when she hears it she puts her on swag on it. Thanks to polow da don for adding a little more to the beat. he made it a bit more jazzy.
