While Aguilera put on a good show, she blatantly avoided the high notes. Instead, she littered the entire performance with her signature (and painful) “ya ya ya’s”. Many have been questioning whether Aguilera’s voice is slowly giving out under the pressure of her over-singing – which borders on screaming – and if her recent claims of a more restrained vocal style on her upcoming ‘Bionic’ LP were simply used to cover up her damaged instrument. In fact, why hasn’t Aguilera belted in her upper range at all on either the album or in recent live performances? Very interesting…

Despite being a Christina fan, it’s true what Trent is saying. Christina, despite being a great singer, has very bad technique – I say this as someone with extensive vocal training. You can ask any singing teacher and they will tell you the same.
She’s always said that she was self taught, and therefore it is obvious that it was in her early years that she developed bad habits.
It is almost inevitable that her range will diminish over the years unless she attempts to learn what she didn’t when she was younger.

I’m a Christina fan but I’ve always disliked the way she records songs but then can’t hit the notes live. She has good stage presence though.

Christina has given plenty of great performances since the back to basics era (Grammys, Lift Me Up, Oprah). it’s not as if she’s been touring or recording non-stop to damage her instrument. Sometimes the highest notes just aren’t there for any singer, and they dodge them. IF she were in danger of damaging her voice, I’m pretty sure she would change her singing style. More than any other singer – Whitney, Mariah in their prime included – the one thing Christina is most consistently praised by producers and collaborators is how well she knows her voice and the tones she’s capable of making. Anyone that in control is not likely to damage their range. You take two performances where you CLAIM she’s damaged (and she did not dodge any high notes in You Got Me) and make a trend.
Trent … you’re so full of crap! I’m glad she’s not belting for once, it’s actually refreshing. And as it’s been said … can Mariah perform like that anymore? Has beyonce ever given a performance that genuine? You need to learn to give props when they’re due.

For once I disagree with Trent. Christina has NOT lost her voice. As a matter of fact, the whole point of recording “Bionic” was for her to tone it down vocally. If I recall, Linda Perry was the one who made the suggestion and you guys even posted the article on your site. Even on AI when Christina performed “You Lost Me,” she toned it down vocally but that is not an indication that she’s losing her voice. However, it is natural for some vocal deterioration to take place and it will be inevitable for Christina not to lose some vocal power on down the line.
WTF Trent, she also belts from the 3:05 mark of Denudate. She belts in Vanity, She belts in Not Myself Tonight’s bridge. Did you even listen to a song on the album? Again, You Lost Me is just full of belts. She belts at the bridge of Prima Donna, and i’m out cuz I don’t intend to give you her albums tracklist.

I agree with Trent, Fighter is my favorite song and she almost didin’t sing it she didn’t hit the high notes and she her voice sounded tired.
