Diddy: “I Am The Champion of Hip-Hop”

Published: Monday 17th May 2010 by Sam

Media mogul Diddy features on the cover of the latest issue of XXL Magazine. Not one to downplay his successes, the Bad Boy spearhead apparently sees himself as ‘the undisputed champion of Hip-Hop’:

“Hands down, undisputed, I’m the undisputed heavyweight champion of hip-hop. We are going to have to deal with those facts. There is nobody that can fuck with me with what I do, which is getting busy. We are going across the board, as an entrepreneur, innovator, motivator. Who was there first? Who traveled to Europe first? The first. The first. The first. The first. I was the first.” {Source}

Hmm. As much as Diddy’s achievements should be admired, a look at what’s become of his one-time flourishing Bad Boy roster highlights exactly why his success is in no-way as wholesome as he seems to believe. I mean his mishandling of the likes of Danity Kane, 112, Day 26, and pretty much every artist ever signed to the label, as well as his still-dumbfounding signing of Cassie, kinda stains what is otherwise a very admirable ascent to the top. In a  nutshell, a great businessman? Yes. A great label head? Hell no.

In any case, do you agree with him?

Your thoughts?

    ROTMFF….
    HE CAN’T BE SERIOUS, then again this is Puffy we’re discussing so yeah he is serious. However, if he wrote his own rhymes, had at least 5 original artist he signed, still signed to his label then maybe. I give Puff his credit, he finds great acts, makes hit records, has had some of the hottest production over the last 15+ years of the labels existance. HOWEVER EVERY SINGLE ARTIST, with the exception of 1, SIGNED TO THE LABEL HAS EITHER DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY, LEFT THE LABEL ON BAD TERMS, OR LEFT THE LABEL IN SUCH BAD SHAPE THEY NEVER WANT TO RECORD MUSIC AGAIN! Thats legendary but nothin to be bragging about. Puffy has been given chance after chance to clean up his label and make it stable however he keeps failing, WHICH IS WHY ATLANTIC is so hesitant about releasing this DIRTY MONEY project… they’re almost like 4 what, the girls will be figments of your past by the playing of the 2nd track

    “as well as his still-dumbfounding signing of Cassie”? Wasn’t “Me & U a huge hit?
    Being a one-hit-wonder is more than you can say about most of the artists out there getting record deals everyday, LOL. And her first album and singles were always quite popular in Europe.

    LOL, it’s soooo easy to write behind a stupid machine that maybe you should try to do it ; )

    Dude has encompassed what hip hop is about: hustle. He’s got everything going from music to movies (raisin in the sun, monster’s ball and now Get Him to the Greek), Sean John, that Aquahydrate water, Ciroc. I guess one could call him king…

  18. TAMMY May 21, 2010

    Speaking of Diddy, is anyone going to see his new movie “Get Him to the Greek”?

    Diddy is on top right now. His band Dirty Money’s Album “Last Train to Paris” comes out on June 4th and so does his summer hit movie “Get Him to the Greek.” This movie is going to be an instant classic like “Super Bad” and “The Hangover”

    This photo reminds me of the scene from Forgetting Sarah Marshall when Russell Brand sings “Inside of you…” ‘Get Him to the Greek’ comes out June 4th, 2010 in theaters across the nation go check it out.

    @SEANTREL4REL – A bunch of people are hyping the premieres. The early reviews seem off the charts. You can watch another vid clip of the movie, http://bit.ly/9UmNRX .. cant wait till the movie drops next week!
