Things are not looking good for Christina Aguilera…at all. The 29 year old’s latest LP ‘Bionic’ is on course to limp into the charts with dismal sales. More below…
According to Billboard, the album is forecast to sell in the region of 100,000-120,000 copies first week.
Not only are such numbers appalling for Aguilera given her label’s huge promotional campaign and the massive sums of money invested into the recording of the record, its set to be the lowest ever first week tally of Aguilera’s career.
Granted there is still a few more major promo stops for Xtina before the week is out, unless she’s able to pull some kind of ‘water-into-wine’-esque miracle, this is looking to be one hell of an embarrassing situation for the ‘Dirty’ singer.
It’s all rather unfortunate, as ‘Bionic’ is indeed a solid LP, and is infinitely better than her last offering ‘Back to Basics’. However, it’s clear to see that the lethal combo of the Lady GaGa comparisons and Christina’s own ‘attitude’ rendered this LP dead on arrival.
Oh well, every artist has a flop at some point.

This week, The Fame tops the 1 million mark in 2010 sales. It’s the first album that was released prior to 2010 to sell 1 million copies in 2010. The album was released in October 2008. You might think that an album this successful would have to have debuted at #1, or very close to it. Actually, it entered the chart at #17 (for the week ending Nov. 2, 2008). It was that week’s ninth highest new entry.
This is the 45th week in the top 10 for The Fame, which peaked at #2. Since 1963, only four other albums that failed to reach #1 have logged as many as 45 weeks in the top 10. first of all the album is $14.99……twice as much as the price of Beyonce’s raggedy ass wig. Second of all the album had a lot of pre-orders, so even if she does sell 120k in the first week (which i don’t think is true) the total sales will still be on point. The album was out for one day I don’t see how it’s possible to make predictions on an entire week of sales.

On a different note, I picked up Bionic yesterday, and I love it. It’s creative, fun, and she still has songs where she showcases her vocals. Great album, and I know that it will do well. If not, I am sure that it will make for a great possible tour.

These projections are from OFFICIAL industry insiders that have been accurately predicting first week sales for YEARS. Why is it that everyone loves to act brand new and make excuses when it’s their fav under the spotlight?
It’s based on first day sales and average sales patterns over the week. It’s rare that they’re out by more than 10 or 20k, especially with a prediction this low. The most she’s doing is 150k, which is still less than Monica (of all people) did. Poor thing.
I wouldn’t sleep on Bionic just yet. Though the 100-150 range is low first week sales for a Christina Aguilera album, Bionic has some really good songs.
Christina will probably be promoting this album through a bulk of 2010, and plus her tour is set to kick off in 2011.
This is only the beginning and judging the album now isn’t necessary.
Of course yall think thats a solid album. Besides 4 or 5 standouts, that Cd is an epic fail.

And let’s face the facts. Alicia Keys sold 417k units the first week with 2 flop ass singles with hardly any promo. Beyonce sold 480k the first week with I am with a #1 hit single Single Ladies. You know her promo kicks into overdrive before her album comes out. There’s only a 63k difference there. With that being said no matter if Alicia has a hit or not people are going to buy her album regardless. Beyonce has not proven to me that she can release an album with flop singles and hardly any promo. She is relying too much on mainstream success, promo, and hit singles to sell an album. The release has its ups (S** For Breakfast, Vanity) and its downs (Elastic Love, WooHoo) but the bottom line is that to move units, Christina needs a radio single. I am not ready to RIP “Bionic” but she needs a strong American radio single to breathe life into album sales. I agree with other posters who claim that a lot of this current image/music seems forced but you cannot deny Christina’s inherent talent – her voice.

The album is going to flop because it’s not even close to being Electronic BIONIC. The first half of the album yes, and then she does a rendition of horrid ballads, and slow tempo kinda like hiphop to jazz, the variations of the album just doesnt match up to it’s own name. I mean, if you are going to do a “Dance Electronic” album it’s rare you do a ballad record in the album. Huge mistake for Xtina, maybe she needs to work with Timbo, Max Martin, or Jim, or Tricky. Experimenting with never heard of producers will not produce a lot of sales, that I guarantee. Be smart like Britney, who sticks to catchy music and sticks to what the crowd like because it’s really all about the money right. IT IS. I actually enjoyed Back to Basics more than Bionic. I actually got the album its ok. I like a few songs on it. But for Sam to say Back to the Basics was bad you tripping. She paid respect to those that came before her and was a great album. Do sales really matter anymore? She still has an amazing voice, and she really hasn’t done too much promotion wise (one “eh” performance on MMAs and on AI’s worst season ever doesn’t cut it!).
Just because an artists “flops” doesn’t mean she’s bad, it means that the music industry allows for a no-talent (Ke$ha) to have one of the biggest hits of the year by talking into a mic and letting producers do all of the work, while one of the best voices in the industry can’t.
Though, that being said, the promo for this album has effectively been a mess. If Christina’s looking for a number one hit, then she had this coming. My thinking, she got married, had a kid, and realized she wanted to do things her way.
NMT-Flop. (NO HOOK, couldn’t catch onto radio, sadly.) As a result, they should have released a better song and had it catch hold. She’s been a mess with single choices, and I keep hearing conflicting reports about what the next single is (Woohoo? You Lost Me? Bionic? Who knows?). After NMT was released, RCA records should have gone strong with another single (not Woohoo. That’s a bad choice.) and performed it everywhere! A hit single can rocket an album’s sales, and the lack thereof is a thorn in Bionic’s side.
As I said, this plan is assuming she’s practically desperate to remain relevant. If she doesn’t care (which seems to be the case. Her interviews don’t really seem like she’s being herself and expressing her love for her work how she wants, not how the music industry would like her to!) then keep doing your thing, Xtina.
DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE THE ODD RELATIONS WITH MARIAH AND XTINA on thier respective eras? Both songbirds, both have great voices, both are normally powerhouses in the industry, both are flopping (regarding sales) yet their CD’s are both great, and both took on acting roles this year. Hmmmm.

Well whether it does bad or not, I wouldn’t say the promotional campaign has been “huge” at all. I don’t even like this album much, but I feel like the label backed off a bit on promotion (at least monetarily) given the flop NMT was.

Uh…Sam, I don’t know how the chart system fairs over in the UK, but in today’s 2010 standards, 100,000 or more in the first week is considered great, not 10 years ago, but today even some of the top artists can sell that much in their first week. I mean, I don’t expect this album to be as successful as her last either, but 100,000 in first week is by no means considered a failure anymore.

Even if someone just made this story up, it’s true. Of course Christina Aguilera will debut at number 1 or in the Top five in countries around the world. She’s Christina Aguilera… an international pop star who has fans around the world and has sold millions of albums. What people fail to realize is that she’s lost her touch! When an artist transforms from meaningful and memorable songs to electro-pop, bubblegum, trash… people are going to be disappointed, except the FANATICS who will support her no matter what! She will have a few weeks of having good album sales, and then it will drastically decrease from there and she will only sell about 2 or maybe 3 million albums worldwide, which is horrible for someone of her status.

what huge promotional campaign? please tell me .. RCA have been nothing but supportive towards this album. She has only just started promotion for this album which was released two days ago. she did nothing to help Not Myself Tonight except for one crap performance on Oprah and a very poorly edited music video. she did nothing for the album till last minute so she is on a mission now to try and save what RCA and herself have done to Bionic era. It is a great album but they are acting really slow to save it. Were is the 2nd single it is no were to be seen but RCA did ask her fans for help to pick the 2nd single which shows they are useless. there was Woohoo which wasn’t a single but a promotional single to give more in depth of the album and if it was to be a single it would be an awful choice and i would declare Bionic era over. I am a massive fan of Christina but i can’t help to think this era is over before it started there hasn’t been much effort at all and the promotion by RCA is rubbish and the first single was crap with no sign of the 2nd single yet.. this era is over but will still be my favorite album of 2010. and as for Beyonce fans I’m sorry but Christina has sold far more albums than Beyonce and Lady gaga.

While I understand that 100,000-120,000 copies sold for the first week for someone like Christina is quite low, those numbers are good enough to put her in the top spot as we’ve seen in theses past few years people selling less than 100,000 records get in the top 3 and even, as I remember correctly, number 1. She still has a while before the numbers are tallied and it’ll take people a while to give this record a chance.
It’s by far not her best but she could’ve definitely done worse so I do wish her the best. I’m loving the new era and would just wish things would work out better for her.
