I’m glad you called out Trey songz, Trentishinaqua.

    saved me the trouble !!!!

lets just hope this album is decent and doesnt sound like some 80’s b*******, because we all know these icons can be a little stuck in the past when they havent been on the music scene for a while.

This man is a f****** musical GOD!!! I cannot wait for this album. Musicology was the s***! Prince is truly a rare musical genius. I’m still watching the tribute at BET Awards (and yes not including Fake Songz) .

My all time favorite Prince songs are:

    Diamonds and Pearls
    Kiss
    When Doves Cry
    7
    Let’s Get Crazy
    Raspberry Beret
    & More

Great news! I for one hope it has some of the 80’s sound (@DANBOFFICIAL) because I don’t really like when old school artists lose themselves trying to be too current. I still listen to 80’s music and I think it sounds a lot better than most of the stuff being released nowadays. Prince should only sound like Prince not these new school artists, since most are not making real/quality/classic music anymore.

His stuff has been terrible lately. I don’t think anyone even pretends to get excited for new albums anymore. He puts them out all the time and each time his longtime fans are let down.

  12. Anne June 29, 2010

Speak for yourself Fatima, based on my observations Prince pretty consistently releases music that is appreciated by some of his longtime fans.

  13. TheYoungLion June 29, 2010

Prince shits on your faves & your dead faves!!!!!!!!!

  14. Fatima June 29, 2010

Okay, I am speaking for myself.

Lotus Flower, MPLSound, Planet Earth and 3121 all got pretty lukewarm reviews. I don’t think anyone would say that he’s anywhere near the top of his game these days.

  15. BENJAMIN June 30, 2010

For 9 realative tracks, this album better be a killer. The double release he did last year underperformed. But something tells me I’ll be buying it. I have so much of his music, and can’t deny his talent.

  16. EXPOSED June 30, 2010

PULEEEZ, NO ONE HAS HEARD 1 EFFING TRACK AND YOU’RE ALL CLAIMING IT’S A CRITICAL SUCCESS… SMFH!! RECENT PRINCE’S SONGS HAVE SUCKED!!! I DONT THINK HE WILL GO BACK TO HIS SMASH HITS OF 20YRS AGO SO EXPECT HIS MEDIOCRE CRAP OF RECENT YEARS. WILL BE ANOTHER UNDERWHELMING EFFORT! TRUST!!

@FATIMA, according to the below info., your statements are incorrect & misleading. No one said Prince was at or near his peak but as I thought, he is still appreciated by a lot of die-hard longtime fans and others:

“The immediate success of 3121 gave Prince his first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 with the album. 3121 reinforced Prince’s big comeback after the release of 2004’s Musicology. It knocked the soundtrack for High School Musical off the top spot, and became Prince’s first #1 album since 1989’s Batman. Eventually it was certified Gold (for over 500,000 copies sold) by the RIAA. Planet Earth received generally positive reviews from most music critics. As of October 2007, the album has sold about 298,000 copies in America, with almost no promotion, with the exception of the Verizon Wireless ad for “Guitar”. Although not released as a single, “Future Baby Mama” gathered radio airplay on American R&B radio and charted within the top 40 of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The song won Prince a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards. Lotusflow3r debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 168,000 copies in its first week and becoming Prince’s fourth consecutive Top 3 album in the U.S. The album narrowly missed the number 1 spot, selling 3000 copies less than Keith Urban’s Defying Gravity. The album however topped some other charts leading Prince to suspect the charts were tampered with which he specifically stated on the Tavis Smiley interview. The album has sold 415,829 units at year’s end according to Soundscan. Upon their release, Lotusflow3r and MPLSound received generally mixed to positive reviews from most music critics.”

Prince doesn’t do big time promotion like many other artists and seems to mainly release music for himself and his longtime fans and others with an open mind and an appreciation for originality and talent.

One more thing. You didn’t mention Musicology but its 2004 release is fairly recent for an artist with a career span of more than three decades. Musicology was well received by critics and was certified double platinum in late January 2005. According to Wikipedia, over the three decades Prince has sold about 100 million records worlwide.
