We’ve been receiving many an email about a new Kelly Rowland cut which surfaced over the weekend, in the form of the Ne-Yo penned ‘Grown Ass Woman’. Interestingly enough, though, we’d heard the track hours before it seemingly started doing the rounds – opting not to post it due to what ( at the time) seemed like salicious leaks of Ms. Kelly’s new material.
However, it has today been confirmed that the Stargate produced track will now be serviced as Rowland’s new Stateside single instead of ‘Shake Them Haters Off’ (which may not actually make the album’s final tracklist). ‘Grown Ass Woman’ goes for adds on US Urban radio on June 29th.
A sassy, mid-tempo, which packs more of a punch lyrically than it does on the production tip, ‘Grown Ass Woman’ may just be that hit that Rowland has been seeking on home shores for sometime now. As much as it pains me to do, this does bare similarities to pal Beyonce’s ‘Irreplaceable‘; unsurprising in that it is the same team behind both songs. Not to be taken as a means of pitting the women against each other, the song’s comparability could very bode well for Rowland, for like ‘Irreplacebale’, ‘Grown Ass Woman’ boasts many a hook, is infectious, and radio food if I’ve ever heard it. Here’s hoping it does the trick.

I like it, it’s very catchy, but it should’ve showed off her more powerhouse vocals, Rico Love is claiming, & that would’ve been the icing on the cake. I hope her live set of this, shows off more vocals, some artist usually do that. like example: Fantasia “Angels” live Oprah show vs. the Studio version.

Sounds similar to irreplaceable, but is a sure fire hit. Its better produced than Irreplaceable, as there is not as much going on. The simplicity allows the melody to stand on its own. i really like it. My fav song from Kelly’s new material thus far.

I REALLY like Kelly, but this will never reach the Billboard Hot 100. Maybe in the top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.The production of the song sounds very cheap. Why is it so hard for her and her team to pick a U.S. single? I’m really starting to get nervous. Its like why can’t they bust out with an official U.S. single that has powerhouse vocals like that of “Commander” and “When Love Takes Over?”

I really LOVE this song and prefer this over “Shake them Haters Off”. I can see pop stations like z100 in New York/New Jersey, and adult urban stations like 107.5 playing this. For those that said it would never make it on the Billboard Hot 100, you obviously don’t know anything about an impact (buzz) song. While it may not be a number 1 hit, it will get listeners acquainted with the new Miss Kelly. From that point her record label can get the ball rolling with a official US single.

i love both songs actually – haters for its cathiness and this track because of the lyrical content and the smooth kinda vibe it gives plus the pop promo makes it accessible for all formats and a good way to intorduce rowlands new image and open up for stonger hits – with a great video this song will do fine and will be the first story telling type video for her – i love it and plus coupled with commander she will hit everyone – bring on the album and im glad she is switching out some of the leaked tracks – i still think the haters song should be on the album tho – work ms kelly!!!!

I think this is somewhere in the middle for me. I’m loving the hook, but the entire song is average. Kelly is not doing anything major for me. I feel like she keeps missing the mark. I feel her struggling and I am just sensing too much desperation. This album is confusing…
I kinda prefer “Shake Them Haters Off” ove this… i have an inkling it would be more successful in the US because of its catchy hook and theme … (EVERYONE loves an anthem, especially one towards haters, since “EVERYONE” seems to have a hater or too)

I personally think that “On and On” should be the US single or maybe even “Shake Them Haters Off.” I didn’t like that song at first but it kinda grew on me, but I think it needs a little bit more ad libs and runs or something. I know about buzz singles BTW, but I didn’t think about it like that. We’ll see what “Grown Woman” song does though.
This song is okay BUT it is definitely no “Irreplaceable,” the message is not as relatable and the lyrics are not as well written or delivered. For example, you can’t compete with that “to the left, to the left” or “you must not know about me” Irreplaceable type hook. I think Kelly fans are dreaming if they expect this song to be half as successful as “Irreplaceable.” I don’t think this is strong enough to give her the hit she’s looking for in the U.S. Just my opinion.

This is an excellent track. I prefer this to Shake them Haters Off. She sounds great singing songs like this. And to the idiots saying Commander is flopping guess what? I don’t think Commander has been released to the Radio stations yet. The video hasn’t even been officially released… I am out of America right now so idk if i am wrong, but I think they aren’t promoting yet because the album won’t be released until September. I think only blog sites have posted up any advertisement for Kelly..
But anyway, i like this song a lot after listening it a couple of times.. I think irreplaceable may be a little more universal than grown woman, but i think this will do well definitely in the R&B realm.. pop i think it might.. but not sure.. maybe a non kelly fan can be more realistic about this

I also wish Kelly was releasing Commander in the States. I don’t understand why the albums very first single is the one they chose to limit to international promo. That is so stupid. Kelly said in an interview that it was her goal to bust the U.S. wide open. She claims she is determined to “break domestic”. I get that she loves and appreciates her international success; but why would she talk about how excited she is about the “new direction” of her album IF SHE’S NOT GOING TO EXPOSE THE U.S. TO THE NEW DIRECTION OF HER ALBUM!? I don’t get some of the decisions her new label is making. Universal Motown doesn’t seem any different from Columbia at this stage. I guess time will tell,but if things don’t start poppin’ off soon, I don’t know if they ever will. I’m gonna need to see some REAL promo real soon.

I actually think that this is a great first US single for Miss Kelly. It’s very pop but has an urban crossover appeal. It’s very catchy and relatable to many women. Her vocals are so clear, smooth, and strong. It sounds a bit similar to “Irreplaceable” but not really! Chris Brown’s “With You” sounds more like Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” than this. I think that some people aren’t feeling it because they may be tired of this sound or want a strong ballad or club banger, and it would be nice, but her album doesn’t come out until September so we will see what she has in store. I think that if she releases this single and “Commander” urban mix, a lot of people will be interested in her. Also, she should even release the original version of Commander over here in the States! That song is a hit no matter what country you’re in. BTW, she’s not releasing “Commander” to radio until the end of June.
Excellent choice of single, should have been choice number one, or should release simultaneously with “Commander,” because “Commander” is a dance song, so I’m unsure of where it will fit on urban radio. But this here with be a surefire summer hit. Release this immediately Kelly. You gotta come hard this go-round.

I think it will float a little on R&B radio. Overall, it’s a lackluster track; it doesn’t stand out. It doesn’t have enough power. I wish they would give Kelly better material. It’s like they’re not trying hard enough.
Miss. Right now, techno dance pop is hot, and “Commander” fits that mold- that single is doing well!! I think they should continue with the dance pop route for Kelly. The R&B market hasn’t worked for her.
