Soulful songstress Jazmine Sullivan is back. Following on the success of her critically acclaimed ‘Fearless’ LP, the 23 year old is set to release her hotly anticipated sophomore album within the next few months. Meanwhile, the record’s lead single ‘Holding You Down’, has surfaced.
Produced by Missy Elliott, the track manages to fuse an Old Skool sound, with a Hip-Hop-esque grittiness, both of which are complimented by Sullivan’s butter-smooth vocals.
True to the sound the J Records star established on her debut, ‘Holding You Down’ looks set to resonate not only with her existing fans, yet also those who’ve yet to grant her an open ear.
A Hit…
Take a listen below…

Jazmine sounds great but Missy’s production is way too busy for anyone to actually focus
It really doesn’t work….and that’s Missy’s fault because Jazmine’s vocals are great
And do we all agree that Missy should stop yelling on other people’s records?
I love Missy and have every album but those ad libs on other people’s tracks are dreadful!!!

I secondo Pookie. I luv missy and I am a huge supporter of her but she needs to stop yellin on other’s pleople music especially when the song is intended to be a single and she does not want to appear on the video (see trina’s no panties).
Btw I like the song both production and beat. it’s Missy and Jaz!!!!

I like the song….sounds a little vintage though with the intro flow like Mary J Blige’s “Be Happy” and the beat sample from Mya’s & Jay-Z “Best of Me” Jasmine sure did deliver a nice cut. Now again I like the song, but I am more of a fan of original music. But I do think its hot how a person can sample others music and make it a hot song. Notice I said a hot song and not better. But that a Philly chick so I know Jasmine will hold it down.

I like it, I like the raspiness of it unlike some other people, cause it reminds me of the old Mary. Reminds me of the fuse of Hip Hop and R&B Amerie tried to do with “Why R U.” Because of that, even know I think it sounds amazing, it may not get pass the poppiness of radio.

Not taking ANYTHING away from Jasmine, but I really would like to hear Faith Evans or MJB on this track taking it back to real hip-hop soul, not the dance inspired crap ruling the airwaves.
Pretty decent song. Not as strong a first single as the last album, but it could be a grower. I also agree that i can do w/o Missy’s adlibs.

So because this ain’t no pop smash, it’s not lead single material. I commend Jaheim, Fantasia, Dondria, Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan, Faith Evans, Raheem, Alicia, Maxwell, Trey, Melanie Fiona and Monica for starting to bring R&B back to it’s roots.

I was wondering what happened to her! I like the song but not as a 1st single…. she needs to make a stronger 1st single… this doesn’t do it. This is a song that just goes on the album, not as a single.

I like the track. I love Jazmine’s vocals; it seems as though Jazmine’s vocals have grown a little stronger. I love Missy too, but I do agree the production is very busy, & not to add to that, it’s not fitting for Jazmine’s voice. It’s just kind of a mess.
