Kelly Rowland’s ‘Commander’ video is finally here! The clip was directed by Masashi Muto in support of the song which serves as the 1st international single from Rowland’s upcoming yet-to-be-named LP which hits stores on September 14th. Check it out below:
Rowland seems to have borrowed elements of Janet Jackson’s ‘Feedback‘ and Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ for this one. While definitely her best clip to date, the drawbacks of the green screen were very apparent Some of the imagery looked almost unfinished; certainly not representative of the large budget afforded for the video’s production. Furthermore, the purpose of producer David Guetta and songwriter Rico Love in the clip seems unclear and almost unnecessary. However, Rowland looked as beautiful as ever and delivered the energy to make the video enjoyable.
There’s only ONE Janet Jackson swagger jacker, b****, and that’s Ciara! The dance sequence in particular just screams “Feedback”.

I liked the video. I had a different image of how the video would look, but it turned out okay. I prefer listening to the song though. It’s so hot. I’m glad to see a lot of Vogue-ing in the choreography. I like the concept that they were going for, but I think that a lot of the parts just seemed very bare and the scenes do not really relate to each other, especially in the middle part of the video. She looks great though, and had the storyline or concept been tighter, I’m sure it would’ve been able to rival Lose My Breath. The video is just okay for me, and I’m not sure how much it would help the push the song up the charts, but nonetheless, the choreography and the song has got me excited to see her perform it live.

The video is alright. The stand out scene is Kelly vs kelly . While I was watching it, I wanted to see more. I was a bit upset when the story line jump to the beauty shots with the different outfits. Ya’ll so quick to try to put her and other artists in the shadow of another, but never want to give credit where it’s due. Kelly danced, modeled, and so much more. The video slayed hands down! It’s furutistic which is why so many of ya’ll don’t understand, and it definitely has meaning to it–hence the jumpin’ through the glass scene (breaking through). Some of ya’ll really need to think outside of the box. I loved every element to the video, and this is by far the best KELLY ROWLAND VIDEO to date. I say…keep’em comin’!!!!!

Honestly, I think people are being quite harsh, and some people will always be mean and hate on people just because they wake up and breathe!
That said, as a long time fan of Kelly and with a sincere desire to see her succeed, I have to be honest and say that I am hoping that this is not the finished video. It is fierce as a portion of the video, but not as the stand alone final cut of the video. The song commands people to dance and while there is dancing in the video, it is not hard enough, fierce enough and does not make enough of a statement. The outfits look great, Kelly looks AMAZING and the colors are awesome, but there is something missing. This cut of the video falls short of blowing me away. I believe Kelly is capable of better. The two sides of her should not look exactly the same, with the colors of the outfits being the only difference. If they are going to go that route, the dance routines should be completely different. It’s not much of a dance off if they are only mirroring each others movements. The video appears to be building to a climax, that it never actually achieves.
I love Kelly and I will support her regardless, but I pray the final edit builds on this one and the final product leaves us all speechless in a great way!

I get what Lola’s trying to say, even though it was worded poorly. Beyonce is a superstar, but Britney’s sold more albums as a solo artist and her tours have grossed more dough, especially the Circus tour, and Brit didn’t have to put in half the effort that Bey put into performing on her tour. At the end of the day, white privilege is more marketable than light skinned privilege, and no matter how light Beyonce is, she’s still a black woman. Now Beyonce is very talented, but saying that her hue isn’t part of her marketability is like saying that Eminem’s popularity has nothing to do with his being a white male. Is Em talented? Yeah, but he’s also the same color and gender as hip-hop’s largest consumer base.
White privilege explains in part why Gaga is so popular. Do you honestly think that a black woman as homely as Lady Gaga could be nearly as successful? Kelly looks way better than Gaga, but if Beyonce has to work as hard as she does for a fraction of the benefits that a white artist can reap with less of an effort, then think about what that means for Kelly who has neither white or light skinned privilege.

For all of you who are claiming that “dark skin” is a societal ill, you betsta step back. The only people that fascinate over light-skin are black people. White people don’t have a problem with dark skin. They are prejudiced against black people who have African features and nappy hair, unless you are Eryka or Lauryn who wears nappy hair but sing protest songs. Then the nappy hair matches the artist’s soul and it comes across as erotic. But, if you are dark-skinned like Iman, Jonelle Monae, with European features, white people can relate to your beauty.
Black people are the most prejudiced of dark-skinned blacks. Just look at BET and TVONE. These are stations that show programs mostly produced, written, and directed by black people, but they have the lightest artists. Look at the hosts of BET and TVONE and tell me if I’m lying. Black people are so enamored with light-skinned, that we are quick to give the “black card” to Mariah and Kim Kardashian, because we are in awe of the fact that Mariah and Kim even want to be recognized as black. We are not even holding them accountable for claiming black. Just like we didn’t hold Justin or Mayer accountable. Black people have a desperation to be accepted by other cultures that we are quick to take you in if you are interested.
Trust me, dark-skinned is a black people’s problem not a white people’s problem. Just look at the view: Whoopie and Sherri. If the view was on BET or TVONE, you will see four light-skinned women hosting that show. And, if they were to show a mixture of dark and light-skinned people, the dark-skinned person would have the straightest hair in order to offset her skin.

Look at the choreography that Gaga was doing and compare it to Kelly’s in “Commander.” Funny hand gestures, more posing than actual movement, but not only was it considered dancing, it was so “avant garde,” clever, and s*** when Gaga was doing it as opposed to Kelly, eh?
That whole Kelly vs. Kelly, dueling cliques and leotards portion was the only good part of the video.

I agree that the scene with the white background could have been left out and most importantly she could have danced with a MUCH higher pace But when it’s all said and done she did her thing. She can dance and anyone that says different is a mother f****** liar and I hope you get striked down! THE VIDEO IS NOT FINISHED!!! It was leaked illegally online. So all this bitching about the video being bad is unnecessary. If you look at the video it is evident that there is a lot editing that needs to be done. For example, certain scenes in the beginning is too dark and more close ups are probably going to be put in for the far distant scenes. Also if you guys have not noticed in the part where the two Kellys are dancing, the black suit Kelly’s arm is blocking the face of the red suit Kelly. Its obvious at that part they have to do sum editing to show Kelly’s face with the arm of the other Kelly being up at the same time, which is another clear sign of an UNFINISHED VIDEO!!
