“I’m calling out two people who I would love to work with more than anybody else – one being Ludacris and the other being Rihanna. She has such a broad sound. One day she could come out with a reggae sounding track. One day it could be just straight R&B. The next day it could be a pop/dance record. I appreciate artists like that so much because they don’t put themselves in a box. ^^Exactly. And even then, Rihanna’s team haven’t always gotten it right (see her first album).
Rihanna has no involvement in the creative process, so you can’t give her credit and say that she’s the one with the Midas touch. Even her way of singing the songs isn’t particularly unique or impressive (neither a great vocalist or a great performer). So it’s really her producers, songwriters, marketing team and image-makers that deserve the props. That’s not to say that other successful pop stars don’t have the same help, but in this day & age, talent is optional, but a marketable image & sound is a MUST. Why do you think some of the most talented artists aren’t the ones who are selling the most records or having Top 10 hits? Success doesn’t define quality, just popularity.

Mariah has been writing / producing her own material since day one of her career.
It took Whitney 24 years to start co-writing her songs [on her last album] so most likely she just sat in the room and made suggestions. Irregardless of their current state, Mariah and Whitney are still two of the greatest singers in Pop culture [so is Whitney] but Mariah is / was / always will be more of an Artist / Talented than just having a voice [Whitney].
Incidentally singers like Whitney , Celine etc usually get a pass for their lack of writing / producing talent when it comes to their music mostly cuz their amazing singers. Then there are performers like Madonna, Britney, Janet / Michael Jackson etc who aren’t the best singers but can damn sure dance / perform their asses off.
Then there’s people like Rihanna……….good thing she’s attractive…….
