Not sure about Terrence Howard in this role but he might surprise me. JHud will be great though I’m sure.

Jennifer looks just like Winnie here. I can’t wait to check out this film next year.

I hope the accents are on point and not just an attempt and failing like Leo dicaprio in Blood Diamond that sh*t was mortifying and i should know!

Ummm couldnt the make up department have made T Howard resemble Mandella? That doesnt look anything like him it looks like Terrence Howard.

This is bad casting IMO…it doesnt matter that the actor is talented….there are many other talented actprs who have a resemblance to Mandella and who could have given a more realistic protryal.

Chile Hollywood is trying it! South Africa has a right to be pissed look at this s***! What about Terrence Howard says Mandela?!?!? Was there no South African or African actor that was available?!?!? C’mon now! And Let’s not get started with JHud as Winnie. WZhat a disgrace. Mandela and S.A. does not approve.

  7. Soulful Roses July 22, 2010

I hope J.Hud does Winnie Mandela justice. Not sure if I want to go see it in theatres though…

Why did they cast Terrance Howard as Nelson Mandela. I hate to say this but Jamie Fox, Mekhi Phifer, Malik Yoba, Idris Elba, etc all can act and resemble Mandela more. So with them two being cast they better have accents on point and bring their a game towards acting in the movie.

  9. BENJAMIN July 22, 2010

It’s obvious these two want another invitation to the Oscars, but I’ll see how this plays out. I just think another movie about Mandela should have waited a lil’ bit.

This is the most f***** up casting in the history of f***** up casting….Its just like Beyonce playing the role of a pastor or pastress as the case maybe…Not buying it..On to the next….

  11. ADE July 22, 2010

These two better play their roles perfectly, I’m mad they decided to cast Terrence as Mandela ¬_¬

  12. bdaboss July 22, 2010

I’m baffled as to why they chose Terrance Howard as well. There is absolutely no resemblance.

  13. Dayne July 22, 2010

If anyone care to do their research this movie is not the focus on Nelson Mandela but his wife Winnie. Why are people so upset about Terrence playing Nelson he’s a good actor. I think the casting was perfect

  14. Quiana July 23, 2010

Why is Terrance play Nelson I mean why? This is bad casting lord have mercy jesus you would think that hollywood would get this s*** together oh well.

Winnie Mandela is a seriously complicated personality and integral part of South AFrican history. I believe that statement stands irrespective of whether you love or hate her.
Jennifer Hudson is just not up to the task – overrated as far as I am concerned. I am sure that there would be so many local actors that could infuse this character with the depth that it deserves.
I see a lot of small foreign movies made with non-hollywood actors that do quite well. Admittedly these are not as widely watched as mainstream hollywood movies and don’t generate as much box office earnings. But at least they are better able to transmit their messages than a hollywood actor who has no real feeling for their history or culture.

I agree people are upset about Howard BUT Jennifer Hudson is the star of the movie. The movie is called WINNIE NOT NELSON. This movie is an important film people seem to forget Winnie Mandela’s role in South Africa’s struggle against apartheid. This movie is Jennifer’s movie not Howard’s film!

Hollywood is a business and in order to garner attention from the media a film NEEDS A STAR. Regardless of whether people on this board like Jennifer Hudson she has an Oscar already and at least she’s trying a very ambitious role. I am tired of young black actresses getting crap roles this role is a huge opportunity for Jennifer Hudson and I am very proud of her for taking it.

Jeniffer doesn’t look anything like Winnie(Winnie being much prettier ofcourse) I’m very disappointed with this casting they could have used a SouthAfrican actress for this. She’d better have the accent on point! i liked Sophie Okenedo’s portrayal of Winnie in the B** drama. Terrence Howard looks more like the young Mandela than Idris Elba but I recon Jamie Fox would have been better suite. Ah Well!

I am looking forward to seeing what Winnie did all those years while she was waiting for Nelson. It must have been hard for a black woman alone with two small children in South Africa. Did she have any secret lovers, or was she a masturbator? Did Nelson have any secret lovers while he waited for Winnie? I loved Leonardo Di Caprio’s South African accent in Blood Diamond. Who the hell is Terrance?

Beyonce was gona be perfect for young winnie. You know they look the same while Winnie was young. Am not saying JH is not gud.
