Keyshia Cole Readies New Album

Keyshia Cole is currently busy preparing her next studio offering which is due to hit stores later this year. Toxic, the producer of ‘Trust’ (Cole’s duet with Monica), spoke candidly about about one of the tracks on the record which will feature fellow R&B singer Tank. Peep what he had to say below:

“We’re doing a lot of new records for her. We got a hot record coming with her and Tank in the future, so ya’ll can be on the lookout for that,” he revealed.Fans of “Trust” will be pleased with the new offering. “I produced ‘Trust’ so it’s somewhere around there,” shared Toxic. “A slow ballad, duet type of record. I guess she comes to me for the duets.”

When asked if it would be a potential single, he replied, “Probably so. It’s a hot record, so you never know, but at the end of the day, I think it’s a gem.”

Keyshia returned to the stage, performing with B.o.B and Eminem at the BET Awards, for the first time since giving birth. “She’s very passionate about her music and it only brings out the best in me when I work with her,” added Toxic. {Source}

This news is bittersweet. As much as a duet with Tank would be appreciated, Cole’s seems to be repeating the same formula to which she has grown accustomed. Yes her understanding of her target audience is respectable but if she wishes to attract more mainstream attention, she will have to branch out of the same breakup/love song combos that defined her last studio album, ‘A Different Me’. Moreover, a few vocal lessons to improve her live performances won’t hurt either because that 2010 BET Awards performance of B.o.B’s ‘Airplanes (Part 2)’ was not the business.

    It will be a hot collab for KC and Tank. Can’t say it will be the same formula until you actually hear the song. I’m looking forward to hearing though.

    her part in Airplanes was not bad because of the vocals because Keyshia can most definitely blow vocally. That part is just not meant to be belted like she did.

    Keyshia needs to go back to the rawness she had with her 1st album and make it more commercial.

    Couldn’t they have found someone else to sing Hayley’s part in Airplanes? This b**** over sang and murdered a good track. However I do enjoy her music and I wanna hear what she comes out with. And Tank is a beast so that’s a good look for her. She looks good in that pic too 😉

    I’m interested in hearing it. Her peformance at the BET Awards had it’s flaws, but it wasn’t horrible. She just tends to oversing too early sometimes instead of keeping it simple. I am a fan of hers, and “A Different Me” had a lot of great material on it. I guess it would be nice to see her branch mainstream a little, but maybe she doesn’t want to, just like Mary. She does however need a dream team of producers and MAD promo, cause she always gets little promo.

    First of all I appreciate artist like Keyshia who keeps it real and focuses on her fans instead of trends of whats hot! Who says she wants to crossover or go mainstream. I think she is proud of her success. Anyway her performance on the BET awards was not bad! I like the rawness in her voice. She does not need to do the extras like other artist!

    i disagree with you trent, but I agree with the above poster khalil. Keyshia is definitely real and she stick to her R&B root. I’m tried of new artists and some old artists branching into different genre because of so called “trend.” Yeah it good for a artists to branch out, but i also think it lame if an artist sell their soul to industry just to try and sell more record.

    Some of her music is nice but Uh @ her Voice & the way she sings(Strains). Every time I hear It I think GHETTO GHETTO GHETTO. I prefer MJB, though shes also a mess kinda too. Id pic Monica over the 2, atleast I can actually tolerate Monica (whos also kinda GHETTO)

  19. nerd July 6, 2010

    what wrong with being ghetto? The most talented people are from it. I really think your misusing the word. I hate to judge people i don’t know but the way you speak/type sound so very ignorance.

    Oh, Keyshia I guess this pony tail grabbing was suppose to look sultry or something. It comes across more like a 13 year old girl that never posed in pictures with a weave before. I do think Keyshia wants more mainstream success. I saw her in concert last year(this wasn’t intentional) and by the end of the night she thanked her fans for their support and spoke of how on the next go around, she would like to fill out huge stadiums when she tours. I remembered that because it sounded rather ambitious for someone of Keyshia’s caliber. I figured she wanted to branch out. A different me was a step in that direction(even if it was a small one). Her look was more refined(instead of hella ghetto). Her music was a bit more experimental(with Make me over and Erotic). She tried, but no one should follow the same formula. Anyone’s lucky to get away with it twice! I have to agree with Trent.

    @NERD

    To tell you the truth black artist have been doing different genres for the longest blues, soul, jazz, disco and we’ve created some genres of today like rock, but i understand your view bout keyshia. If she dont wanna go mainstream thats fine cuz she loves r&b so she’s fine with that. And I am too.

  25. V July 6, 2010

    Why do you guys always want artists to move away from their fan bases and go commercial? You guys say the same thing about Trey Songz but what you have to understand is that the fans appreciate artists like Trey and Keyshia cause they dont switch up their style for white listeners. There’s not enough artists singing straight R&B in the game today. Not everyone has or wants to go commerical/pop : /

    @Trent —

    “Attract more mainstream attention” …?! … What’s wrong with black folk? What’s “wrong” with OUR attention, ‘eh Trent? Just how much “mainstream attention” did ‘Monica’ get and she STILL did/doing well, no?

    @Trent, are you ….”color-struck” ..?? I know ‘Sam’ is; but how ’bout you, ‘eh Trent? And what happens when you “try-to-attract more mainstream-attention and forget who you are ..???” …Maybe you should talk to Ciara, ‘eh Trent?

    Maybe we, “not-of-the-mainstream” have-a-vibe “and likes” all-our-own!” … Trent, your thinking is exactly why Kelly Rowland will NEVER get “non-mainstream attention!” … While the mainstream will give you sales, “it’s-where-your-soul goes-to-die!” Just you ask Ciara, just you ask Janet Jackson; wasn’t it said mainstream, whom “killed HER career?” But the mainstream forgave Justin Timberlake; but NOT Janet …!!!

    Well, Trent — and Sam, if your reading this — F***-OFF! … “We-lowly not-of-the-mainstream” can-do-just-fine without Ciara, Janet Jackson, ESPECIALLY “KELLY (Orlando Bloom is the best looking man in the world) Rowland”; and Keyshia Cole, should she decide to “abandon us or compromise her-sound!” Let the mainstream have her, let her and the likes-of Britney Spears “fall-into the abyss”, that is, “the mainstream’s better-graces” …!!!!

    “You ‘bite-the-Apple’, you’ll get a Sugar-rush”, then the ‘come-down’ is-all-too “concrete-hard” …!!!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT …!!

    I predict, not-too-long from-now, black dudes will-wake-up! They’ll see “The White Rapper” selling 700K-units; YES, for the first-week; but’ll THEN decide: “my life”, represented in/with ‘Gucci man’/’Wayne’/’T.I.’ or some “Gimmick White Rapper” who got “fame and fortune” then-becoming “The White Rapper”, where ‘Vanilla Ice’ “left-off”; then “falling-into” a life of “debauchery and excess!” … And-now-this: “his recovery” …?! Why-should-I, black youth on-the-corner/black man, who-just-got laid-off/black man/youth, who can’t get a record deal be-ever-concerned-with, or-relate-to-YOU …. “The White Rapper?”

  35. MR.STILLSTANDING July 13, 2010

    I am so sick of people always saying that us black people need more mainstream attention for the pop audience. That’s the MAIN reason why R&B is a dying genre now because everyone wants to go Pop and not doing any meaningful straight R&B music that urban audiences can actually appericate.

    Keyshia Cole’s first two albums were absolutely amazing because they came out at a time where R&B was really dying and it was refreshing to hear a female artist stay true to her roots and sing some real R&B music. “A Different Me” is Keyshia’s worst album in my opinion because she wasn’t herself.

    Why can’t we appericate REAL R&B. Why does EVERYONE feel like people should go to the pop genre for recognition? You don’t have to. And I feel like in 2010, R&B is making a comeback. You have a few people out there NOW that actually sings REAL R&B music such as Monica, Keyshia Cole, Jaheim, Dondria, Raheem DeVaughn, Chrisette Michelle, Maxwell, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, hell even Day26. Not everyone has to go pop and be fake. R&B music is dying and we need people to focus on R&B and help bring it back.
