Snoop Dogg Opens Up About Daughter’s Lupus Battle

Published: Monday 12th Jul 2010 by Sam

Though renown for his hard-hitting lyrics, Snoop Dogg left the macho-bravado on the bench in a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine. The at-times tearful rapper opened up about his youngest daughter Cori‘s struggle with Lupus, as well as the positive effect it had on his marriage to wife of 13 years, Shante.

It all began five years ago when they noticed a light spot on the face of Cori, then 6 years old. Weeks later, the daughter of Snoop Dogg and wife Shanté Broadus was losing drastic amounts of weight and her hair was falling out.

Despite visiting countless doctors, no one was able to offer the rapper and his family a diagnosis for little Cori. “I felt helpless,” Snoop told PEOPLE while fighting back tears. “No power, no friends.”

His wife Shanté adds, “No one could tell me what was wrong. They drew tons of blood and said she has old-person cells. They gave her all kinds of [medication]. But she went downhill.”

Months later, after getting the heartbreaking diagnosis of lupus, Snoop Dogg and his family began their journey to understand the autoimmune disease, which ultimately brought his family closer together.

“She’s the toughest little thing I’ve ever met,” the rapper says of his daughter. “She’s on the honor roll, playing volleyball and softball, living life. She has all this joy. In the beginning lupus was winning. But now Cori is.”

    Awww! Bless this family! Snoop seems to be a really good father!

    @Borriz and Baqui

    I’m almost certain she’s the daughter of Shante (Snoop’s wife) because she looks just like her besides her skin color, but I’m not sure if she’s Snoop’s biological daughter. I just don’t think they would ever say if she is or isn’t because he probably loves her unconditionally regardless. Snoop’s awesome!

    Oh wow, that’s serious. I have a cousin who was diagnosed with that not too long ago, though she’s 20 now, she seems to be okay & lives a normal life.

    @Team Weezy, Borriz and Baqui

    Its possible for siblings to have the same parents & not look anything alike. I think its deep within their family DNA, they may look like a past relative or something like that. I can’t really explain it. But that is Snoop’s daughter & Shante is her mother, she just looks more like her mother, but darker.

    @Outta this world

    Yeah, that’s true. I think I just read it somewhere that she may have not been for Snoop. But yeah she looks EXACTLY like her mother!

    Snoop couldn’t hide his love for Shante during their reality t.v. show. He acted like puddy in her hands and never disrespected Boss Lady. I really liked him after I saw how he treated his wife on the show.

  12. DizzyGuy1985 July 12, 2010

    I think her medicine messes up her skin. I thought i read that somewhere.

    Why is his one son mean mugging? He looks like he just got a spanking and is still swole about the incident.

    Snoop is a good dad. His music is for older adults and I don’t think he ever faked the funk about that ever in his career. So all in all he is a good guy..minus the whole weed thing. I think that is whack.

    @borriz & bacqi

    Wow that is a touching story. Stay strong Cori. 🙂

    Michael Jackson had lupus as well. I hope Cori’s lupus doesn’t turn into vitiligo. As the world is now aware, vitiligo affects African Americans in a much more tramatic way because your own people may accuse you of wanting to be white. Michael started suffering very early in his career. So he was able to cover the light spots with darker makeup. But as he started to loose more and more pigment (color) in his skin he had to transition over his lighter shade.

    Yeah he could have continued darker makeup, but when when you are a performer like he is, and you sweat as much as he does all the makeup would come off. Some people just don’t understand that so they continue to say that he bleached his skin and he wanted to be white. Tha hurt Michael so much. I pray that does not happen to Cori.

    who is the other girl ? I think Cori aka Choc is his too. I loved that show, wonder what happened to it. As far as skin color, within the african american community diffrent shades of brown exists even in families. my sister and her husband are both light skinned. They had 2 sons who were light and a daughter who was brown just because Choc’s darker doesn’t mean shes not his.

    @Team Weezy, Borriz and Baqui

    the baby is defiantly shantes A ND snoops. they had some type of argument and separated years back and they came bak together when they found out shante was pregnant. Snoop always wanted a girl, especially since he had 2 boys before he had Cori so that probably made him even more emotional about the subject
