The eclectic Kelis recently stopped by Cherrytree House studios recently to perform a selection of tracks from her ‘Flesh Tone’ LP (’22nd Century, ‘4th of July’, and ”Brave’). Check out how the 30 year old fared below….

Good showing from the former Ms. Nas. If anything, I preferred these stripped-back rendition to those of the Dance persuasion on the album. Perhaps a return to a sound similar to this may work better for Kelis – not to take anything away from ‘Flesh Tone’ – which isn’t actually a bad album (dismal sales aside).

I saw these earlier. These are just amazing. Her vocals really shine through. Love the intimate feel as well. The lyrics of “BRAVE” are really touching. These performances really allow Kelis to just shine. She’s truly unique and talented. LOVE KELIS!

Go Kelis!!! Now people can hate all they want, but you cannot take away the fact that this chick is talented. Not every artist can perform songs acoustically. It takes a certain level of musicianship to understand the instruments being played, and how your voice meshes into the groove. Kelis not only sounded indentical to the record, but she actually sounded a lot better.
I really like her new album, and I love her new prospective on life. Team Kelis all day everyday!!!

OMG, K, I just watched it; does anyone remember that scene in ‘Scarface’, when Al Paccino’s character, Tony Montana, was sitting at the desk and he dipped his head into a small mountain of Cocaine, sitting there, on his desk?
Well that’s what Kelis must have been doing right before, this performance, and right before, she ever thought that, she was gonna have some-sort of “comeback or career!”
Kelis reminds me of someone’s aunty, who thinks herself ” too kool”. You don’t want her around your friends, she embarrasses you; but you just don’t know how to tell her and don’t know how, to make her stop. So, you just sorta ignore her till it’s time for her to leave and you THEN smile and tell her, “it’s been too-long …”
X,Y, “and Z” — OUT …!!
OK – I like these acoustic versions too, but I prefer the album versions. Everyone’s going flop, but last time I looked this album was at #5 on the dance / electronic album chart and it is after all a dance album. The reason there is a separate chart for d/e albums is because this kind of stuff doesn’t sell as well in the US. If you compare the album to a classic R&B album you love you’ll probably be disappointed – especially if you’re not into dance music – but you got to compare like with like. Of course she’s not going to sell mega millions of this – there are really only a few artists like Gaga or Kylie who have the fan base to send a d/e album to those levels of sales.
Kelis can even pull it off acustic. Flesh Tone is a fierce album. Big up!
