Chris Brown Lines Up New Single

Published: Friday 27th Aug 2010 by Sam

“I’ve came to the conclusion that ima put out so much good music that you’ll hate to love me”

The words of a certain Chris Brown, who is lining up another single from his ‘Fan of a Fan’ mixtape. With the set’s first offering ‘Deuces’  being a bonafide Urban smash (currently sitting at #2 on Billboard’s Hip-Hop & R&B Chart), the 21 year old will no doubt be hoping to repeat its success with its follow-up.

Name of the track, the track itself, and video details after the jump….

According to the singer, the Bow Wow assisted ‘Ain’t Thinkin’ Bout You’ will be serviced as the mixtape’s next release. A video for the single is set to be shot this Sunday (August 29th) {Source}

Take a listen to the track below…

A hit. What do you think, though….

The video was recorded about 2 months ago towards the beginning of the summer. Since then they have been editing it and whatnot. The video is actually being RELEASED this Sunday. Just to update you on everything 😉

Definitely going to be a smash… Hopefully also on the Billboard 100 (Top 20?!)!

  4. Robjr Loves Ciara August 27, 2010

Chris Brown & my twin brother Bowwow on 1 track ! Now all they need is queen Cisus in the video

  5. Secret Voice August 27, 2010

The thing I love about Chris is that he took the initiative to do his own thing with making his own mix tapes and Jive foul azzes will not benefit from what he has done with his music,Go Breezy!

If Jive had any damn sense, they would release ‘PassOut’….

  6. Secret Voice August 27, 2010

@ Rob…You know what,I love Ciara but Chris don’t need her on every song with him and I don’t know why some Ciara stans seem to think she need to be on every song. Why would she need to be on a song with Chris and her ex boyfriend.

  7. piat August 27, 2010

I like the melody to this song alot. I gave him and Bow Wow side-eye for this song at first but if the video is decently shot…I can overlook it and really support it. I think this would do well on urban radio.

  8. kody August 27, 2010

yall know im with teambreezy but honestly i dont see the point of that he already has the matrix video coming next month and the song is just ok he needs to start dropping singles for his next album if he is going to drop a single but i will support it though teambreezy

  15. GAGA OH LALA August 27, 2010

I cant believe this dude is killing Trey songs career with mixtapes songs LOL
    This song is Fire

  16. truth serum. August 27, 2010

Good for Breezy. Not a big fan of him, but I am happy to see him garner success!

@Kody… This is a good strategy for him. It warms up mainstream audience to accept him back into their world without risk of having another album do poorly sales wise. He can use this momentum to strum up interest in what will be his single for the new album. For once, his management team does something right.

  17. famousgirl August 27, 2010

stop asking for chris to release pass out the graffiti era is over lets bury that album & move on
he’s gonna drop a new single from an album it’s gonna be fromhis 4th LP

I love this song I think it will do well I dont think it will do better than deuces though

  18. PLAIN AND SIMPLE August 27, 2010

The song is really nice Go Chris Go

  19. Soulful Roses August 27, 2010

I know the “Graffiti” era is over, but I can’t get over that album, because it has some great single material on there. And I agree with @SecretVoice. I should go to Jive records, and smack them personally for not releasing “PassOut”..

Anyways, this is my song right here. Can’t wait to see the video for it. Bring it on Christopher 😀

  20. kody August 27, 2010

EONLINE.COM Chris Brown on the Rebound?

Thu., Aug. 26, 2010 2:30 PM PDT by Gina Serpe and Claudia Rosenbaum

This wasn’t the kind of promotion the Takers team was hoping for, but they got it anyway.

Just when Chris Brown (and the studio releasing his new movie) was hoping the world had forgotten all about his brutal attack on Rihanna, around comes a progress hearing in the case and his required presence at the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse.

So was the news good or bad?

    All good. Real good.

“You are doing very well on probation. You are doing a good job. It looks like you are working consisitently on your community labor hours and I know it is a big job,” said Judge Patricia Schnegg.

Schnegg noted Brown—dressed in a black vest, white oxford and khaki pants, and accompanied by attorney Mark Geragos—has also been regularly attending his domestic violence classes and has only missed two. Schnegg ordered the 21-year-old singer to continue with his probation (still has four years to go!) and ordered him to return on Nov. 18 for another progress report hearing.

It was the fourth hearing overall for the semipermanent trash collector, and also happens to be one year since he was sentenced for felony assault.

Guess you could say it really was a happy anniversary.

Review: Takers Almost a Good Little Heist Movie

Thu., Aug. 26, 2010 6:00 PM PDT by Luke Y. Thompson

Review in a Hurry: A well-rounded cast of character actors (plus Paul Walker) tries to pull off a big robbery while obnoxious alcoholic cop Matt Dillon attempts to stop them. Very nearly a good little heist movie, Takers generates the occasional interesting plot twist but fails at the most basic level of creating characters worth caring about.

The Bigger Picture: The bank robbery that kicks off Takers delivers a few genuine surprises, not the least of which is that Hayden Christensen can capably fool people into thinking he’s someone other than who he is. And it’s cool to see a movie so color-blind in its casting that actors both black and white are equal-opportunity, elitist asskickers. Christensen’s A.J. sports the most prison-style tatts, while Michael Ealy’s Jake is the biggest Scotch snob.

It doesn’t spoil much to reveal that the initial heist goes down as smoothly as 10-year-old Macallan. But of course, the inevitable “one last job” rears its head as former team member Ghost (Tip “T.I.” Harris, giving his best ’90s-era Snoop Dogg snarl) gets out of prison, possessing a confidential armored car route he snagged from a Russian gangster. Though it violates the team’s usual sense of planning and discretion, they move fast to plan a smooth car-jacking in the next five days.

Meanwhile Dillon’s Detective Welles is busy trying to find clues to solve the first robbery, but it doesn’t help that he’s hugely unprofessional and yells at everybody. Partner Hatcher (Jay Hernandez) tries to mellow him out, but even this nice-guy cop has issues.

As does the script. It’s cool to see a movie that doesn’t feel the need to make everyone likable, but the four credited screenwriters here don’t manage to make anyone worthy of our sympathy, from the rub-it-in-our-faces-rich thieves to the corrupted cops who pursue them. Idris Elba’s Gordon Jennings is given a drug-addicted sister in lieu of character development; a brief cameo by Zoe Saldana suffices for both Ghost’s and Jake’s backstory. When we see toward the end that singer-turned-actor Chris Brown’s character is apparently an expert in parkour, one might wonder why this wasn’t established sooner.

Most hilarious about Takers is the way it goes out of its way to point out that what we’re watching takes place in Los Angeles. Characters gratuitously drop references to the La Brea Tar Pits, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Pershing Square, the Farmer’s Market and so on so often that you could easily make a drinking game out of it. Yet out of towners won’t care, and locals will probably shrug.

The 180—a Second Opinion: Considering there is no clear sympathetic protagonist, we will say this—the climax legitimately keeps you guessing as to who will prevail.

  28. jane but not tarzan’s b**** August 27, 2010

    E! gave Takers a “C” grade

I bet you that movie is gonna make a s*** load of money. Then we’ll see about that “C” grade

  29. famousgirl August 27, 2010

@kody let CNN hate we know that most who are going to see the movie are CB fans

pass out would have been good to release but then again it would be ashame if it had flopped I rather for it not to be released than for it to be release then flop & even though graffiti may have some great songs that era is over whether you like it or not it’s time to move on to next LP 🙂

  30. kody August 27, 2010

@ famous girl i understand but we haved to defend our boy besides those rasict haters get on my dam nerve i was reading the comments on cnn the white people which im sure they are wont let s*** go

  31. enufalready August 27, 2010

I believe that the movie is diversified and that it crosses over many demographics. My male friends are going to see it because it looks action packed, many of my female friends are going because of the eye candy. One thing this film did correctly was the casting and plot . I honestly hope it does well because I would luv to see these actors/entertainers receive options to do more quality movie roles.

  32. Geronimo Deuces August 27, 2010

  33. famousgirl August 27, 2010

    That is my SONG omg…
Im going to listen to it right now

Is Chris Brown a Problem for Takers?? >>THIS IS THE HATING ASS ARTICLE
    http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/26/takers.film.marketing/index.html?iref=obinsite

The worst part of it was this
    ____________________________________________________________________

Pop culture expert S. Tia Brown said the marketing has been smart in that while the film has a majority African-American cast, it has managed so far to avoid being typecast, while still courting that demographic.

“It was shot in a way which doesn’t make you think ‘black movie,'” Brown said. “All of the guys are in custom suits and they are classy crooks, not drug dealers or something stereotypical.”
    ____________________________________________________________________

  36. enufalready August 27, 2010

As long as all of the fan bases go in force, there is nothing to worry about. Each guy has one remember that. Saw midnight show…packed, excellently done, action packed, and man o man the eye candy…t#hatsall.. i’m just sayin’.

That song is a hit. He is concentrating on his Urban audience right now, they’ve stuck with him through it all and are the ones that are bringing him back.

  42. NICKY August 27, 2010

you guys cant be serious that people would see a movie for chris brown ???? lmao

    Idris Elba CHECK
    Michael Ealy CHECK
    Matt Dillon (Hollywood Heavyweight) CHECK

  43. kody August 27, 2010

@nicky why you here go on a rihanna post man and stop coming here just to hate

  44. kody August 27, 2010

Just last week CNN was talking really bad about your fav and her video.

  47. OBI TEXAS August 27, 2010

    This sounds really good!

I can’t wait to hear album material!!! Been awhile I have heard Bow Wow on a REALLY GODD song. Nice to see dude still has it.

I wish them both the best! I actually saw Lottery Ticket and Bow Wow a.k.a Shad Moss was really good in it.

Chris Brown is back! You can’t fight God!!!!! If it is in his plan for Chris to succeed, WELCOME BACK CHRIS!

  48. jasmine August 27, 2010

Some people can’t really see what’s going on. The American media is hypocritical and racist & they have used EVERY opportunity to demonize black male celebrities, ever since O.J Simpson. They are now trying to make Chris Brown look like some monster.

Chris had a promising, successful career before the Rihanna incident. The media wasn’t even hyping Rihanna up that much before she was assaulted. Suddenly they all take her side because they secretly wanted Chris to take a fall. It makes them money to write degrading articles on him & make fun of him in the press. Take note that Chris Brown ALWAYS cited MJ as an influence on his career. He was one of the very FEW celebrities to even speak about him or show him respect before his death. The media DID NOT like that. They successfully turned most of Hollywood and the music industry against Michael, so I DOUBT they would like any artist who supported him. This is partly why the media was glad when Chris screwed up. They will continue this cycle of CB hate until it is no longer profitable. Unfortunately, Chris has many haters and the media will keep feeding them garbage. Chris Brown fans need to keep up the support & show the media they will NOT destroy another black talent like they did to MJ.

  49. VA STAND UP!! August 27, 2010

This is probably my second favorite song off of ‘Fan of a Fan’ after ‘Deuces’. I am glad that he choose a more up tempo club sounding track. ‘Deuces’ is my sh*t, but it is very mellow and not really a dance track. Although it became a huge hit, there

I am sure this will do well on the r&b charts I expect it to do well on Billboard Hot 100 as well. ‘Deuces’ is a very urban track which explains why it did so well on on the r&b charts, but it is also doing well on Hot 100, so I think that ‘Ain’t Thinking About You’ has the potential to do better on Hot 100! Especially if the video is hot which I am sure it will be!

The only thing that I am worried about is that is is obviously about his ex, so I hope mainstream media doesn’t try to make big deal about that since they have to pick apart everything that the dude does and some how tie it back to the ‘incident’!

  50. kody August 27, 2010

@jasmine your right they hated mj before he died then when he died the white people started be good to mj and so the media sees that so they want to be nice to mj when chris brown is back with number one hits and more white people start back liking him they are all of sudden be good to chris they are going to start to saying things like
    1.chris brown amazing comeback
2.is it time to forgive chris brown
3.your are going to start to hear white media being way more nice all of sudden
4.they are just going to be try to hop back on the chris brown bandwagon

  51. VA STAND UP!! August 27, 2010

Lol @ everybody wanting to ‘Pass Out’ be a single. I wasn’t too crazy about that song, but I did think that it had the potential to be a hit, especially overseas. *shrugs* I remember the girl Eva Simmons tweeting about it, sking her fans does she want them to do a video for it, but I never heard anything else about it after that. *shrugs*

I am pissed that ‘Graffiti’ did get more singles released as well. He had some serious hits on that album, ‘What I do’, ‘Wait’, Sing Like Me’ , ‘Movie’, ‘Brown Skin Girl’. I really do think that his people have just decided to move on from ‘Graffiti’ and I think that’s why he is concentrating on his mixtape. With the success of ‘Deuces’ I rhink that is the best bet and he knows that.

I also would hacve liked to see him release some more singles off of his own mixtape, In My Zone. He has a lot of up tempo dance tracks on that mixtape as well. ‘Work Wit it’, ‘Convertible’, ‘Big Booty Judy’ (Ludacris did a remix to it that I love), even the slower ones like ‘Too Freaky’, ‘Medusa’, ‘Perfume’ and ‘Glow in the Dark’. I don’t know why he didn’t do an vdeos for In My Zone, except for ‘No BS’. *shrugs*

I guess he is just gonna do the songs that he think will do well on the charts. ‘Matrix’ still has to grow on me, but I am really excited about the video.

  52. Waddie G. August 27, 2010

I’m looking forward to a new Chris Brown album. This young brotha still has it. The song is a hit.

  53. ~TeAM WeeZY~ August 27, 2010

Oh yeah, this is my jam. Good choice. I listen to this over and over and over again on my iPod (especially when I work out). I LOVE this song, Bow’s verse is solid too.

It’s funny how @Nicky only shows up in only Rihanna and CB posts.

  54. Tiff August 27, 2010

or he could release “Sing like me” for Urban Radio…
    Love that song also

  55. VA STAND UP!! August 27, 2010

@Nicky: You again?? Is your head really that stuck up your ass that BS is all you are capable of speaking?? You don’t check facts do you, you just pop off at the mouth and talk sh*t!

How is ‘Deuces’ barely a success when it is currently sitting at No. 2 on the charts right behind Usher, and climbed 10 spots on Hot 100 to No. 29 and sis sure to break into top 20 next week! Initially radio stations still werent playing his music, but ‘Deuces’ was so heavily requested that major stations added it to their playlist and now it is set to go No. 1 on r&b charts and top 20 on the Hot 100. That is not only far from a flop, but it is doing extremely well! Better than your girl even! Where is ‘Rockstar 101’ on the charts right now?? Yeah exaclty!

    *pulls out chair* Sit!

FYI: CNN was saying just last week that the video for ‘Love the Way You Lie’ was glorifying DV! Experts were saying that Rih was more concerned with getting a hit than promotong a safe message about DV!

    GRAFFITI GOT SOME HITS!!!!

  57. piat August 27, 2010

    @VA Stand Up …wat up!

I understand how people feel about Pass Out. When the snippets of the Graffiti songs first appeared on the blogs I knew off the few seconds of that songs…I would love it! I don’t really care anymore, if Jive decided to get of f their tail and pay for a video for Pass Out I will support it but since they aren’t I will support whatever CB/CBE are doing.

I just hope CB shows some of the Graffiti songs some love whenever he tours again by doing a melody of Pass Out, Sing Like Me, I’ll Go, Movie. And I’m sorry but “Movie” is 10x better than “Make a Movie”.

  58. Secret Voice August 27, 2010

If you have ever been overseas then you would know why people want ‘PassOut’ to be released and trust and believe that shyt would be mega worldwide!…

Now back to my people stressing over the propaganda of CNN check it,they are having a hard time with ratings so that why they deal in polarizing subjects involving Blacks to that Black in America trash job or Chris Breezy, lets not worry about them or the haterz because that is what they do!

Now I got to get ready to do my daily exercise! Deuces teambreezy 4 now!

  59. lottie August 27, 2010

YEAH WHATEVER, I’LL BE GONNA TO SEE TAKERS TODAY!!!!

  60. Misty August 27, 2010

loveeee this track!!! Cant wait 4 the vid. But Ima need Chris to get off the past and work on moving forward! Dont look back boy…

  61. kody August 27, 2010

chris brown has not released a single fron graffiti this whole year i thank sing like me was released but then jive records pulled it back i think chris brown just want to put graffiti behind him but i cant wait until the matrix video is dropped

  62. VA STAND UP!! August 27, 2010

@Kody: I know the media can be frustrating but we cannot let them get our focus! I have read several reviews of ‘Takers’ and a lot of them always has to bring up the ‘incident’ and try to sway people! I am not surprised that CNN did that BS article on the movie, they want to use any opportunity to remind people of what he did and hinder his success! We just have to go out in full force to support!

Chris has been everywhere promoting Takers with his co-stars and it hasn’t showed and signs of hurting the film. ‘Takers will open No. 1 regardless of what the biased ass media has to say!

@Jasmine: I agree also! The media is hell bent on destroying CB just like they did MJ! They vilified that man up until the day he died, and when he died they were all back on the bandwagon kissing his ass again! We cannot let that happen to Chris! We just have to keep supoprtng our boy and show them we are not gonna him let go! He is too talented to just fade into oblivion!

@Heaven: Co-sign! As long as his fans go out and support the film it will be OK. He has like no competition this week at the box office so it is sure to open No. 1! Don’t focus n the negative only the positive!

I also agree that it appears his is trying to focus on completely gaining back his urban audience first, cause they are for suire more forgiving. I think he is gonna save most of the pop for his album, but he is gonna give them a lil tease with ‘Matrix’. Hopefully the video to that will help it perform well on the charts.

  63. piat August 27, 2010

The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses. -Malcolm X

#TeamBreezy stop fretting over CNN or other media. We will not win with sending them profanity-laced messages. Our best weapons are to continue to support CB with words of encouragement to continue to do right, request his music, financially support him and the future endeavors of Symphonic Love Foundation. The news will find a new whipping boy or girl as time moves forward.

FYI: CNN was saying just last week that the video for ‘Love the Way You Lie’ was glorifying DV! Experts were saying that Rih was more concerned with getting a hit than promotong a safe message about DV

I am SURPRISED to say the least that CNN would dare tell to criticize and actually tell the TRUTH about Rihanna! I bet that they didn’t say a damn thing about SERIAL WIFE BEATER EMINEM right? No they just menioned that crap to try and bring Chris Brown down on the eve of his big movie nation-wide premier. That’s okay though, TAKERS will be the #1 movie after this weekend and DEUCES will be thee #1 song! Damn the fake media!

F*** CNN, E! & THE REST OF THE RACIST AMERICAN MEDIA!

They are just mad becasue they want to control the success of individuals. Chris Brown has broken all of their rules!

    1) He is never VENEFUL! I have never heard him attempt to tear Rihore or anyone else down.

    2) He continues to move forward inspite of their best efforts to stop him!

    3) Fans of all ages, races, religions and nations LOVE CHRIS BROWN not the media props they keep throwing up who are suppose to be his “replacement”! Every place he goes he gets made love from everyone and THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

I just predicted that DEUCES would be #1 by next week but maybe it wont be now that I see the media is once agian up to it’s usual tricks! I am glad that more ppl are now seeing what they are up too and are no longer interested in being manipulated by them!

HERE’S TO ALL PEOPLE OF THE WORLD WHO THINK FOR THEMSELVES! Good job now go and see TAKERS! I may have to see it twice this weekend now that I see they are playing F****** GAMES!

but anyway….Has anyone ever considered that Chris MIGHT be waiting til RiRi is about to drop her 1st single/video for her new project before he release the matrix video so it coincides? Yal know he and sometimes she likes to release stuff around each other to generate a lil buzz/mess…

in either case Im happy Chris is benefiting so well from his mixtape and hopefully he can get a feat from Tip on his new album

    @Nicky
What are you talking about Deuces barely got success? Its #29 on the hot 100 currently and still charting and high on itunes charts. Please sit. You come in every week talking about Deuces isnt a successful single and it keeps charting higher and higher. And its a mixtape single.

CNN can go suck Brian Pumpers balls and go to hell. SO if the movie fails its Chris’ fault? Thats not fair to try and put that on him. First of all its his fans in the theaters going crazy wearing the CB shirts and s***. He isnt the only reason why people are going to see it though to be honest but come on now. When T.I. went to promote takers on his own and went through the list of people in the movie no one screamed until he said Chris Brown.

And f*** these reviews. I’m still gonna go see it either way. These are the same ones who gave the f****** jaws rip-off fish movie in 3D a “B” rating so come on now.

And I dont too much care for this song. I’m just waiting on the Matrix video. If Matrix is coming out not too long after this it will over shadow Aint Thinkin Bout U Anyway.

  77. Lady August 27, 2010

    @Nicky
Boo…when does school start for you? Gtfoh. Umm yeah people would see a movie for CB. Is he the main reason for people seeing the movie? No obviously not with such an amazing cast but sit down. You don’t even check your facts you just start rambling about b*******. Why is a mixtape single probably gonna go #1 on r&b and Hip-Hop charts and probably Top 20 by next week? You need to go back to being delusional on those Rihanna post.

And Idk if this new song will be released on iTunes its probably just one of those things for the fans….

No actually Chris is dropping his “Matrix” video to coincide with the one year anniversary of his blogsite, Mechanical Dummy. I don’t think that he is concerned with his ex any more.

    @Kody,

CNN only posted that bullsh*t to draw attention to that old @ss issue. It is an attempt to remind ppl before making their movie selection this weekend, that 2 yrs ago Rihanna pulled off her shoe and beat Chris while he was driving and he popped her a few time because of her actions! They were not attempting to be KIND to Chris AT ALL BELIEVE THAT!

P.S. – TGJ fam, sorry for the multiple posts above! For some reason my original posts would not show. Anyway, you now know how I feel about CNN, the no good biased bastards…LOL 🙂

So true! People need to start having their own minds and stop relying on the media to tell them what to like or not. I’ve never done that, but I’m just saying for a lot of people that did and still do, you can’t do that. Like who you like.

  85. I and I (yardie style) August 27, 2010

Nice song to listen to when chilling but i’ve been waiting on that matrix video it seems like forever. Hurry up man! Cho!

  86. TEE August 27, 2010

I’ll be seeing this movie over the weekend.

  87. Me August 27, 2010

EVERY BLACK person should go support this movie b/c it has BLACK, MALE PRODUCERS & EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS (Morris Chestnut, TI, Chris, Gabriel Casseus, Jason Geter) and JUST FOR THAT REASON, a LOT of people would like to see it fail…you know…the racists and the “coons”.

Whether you dislike one of the actors or not, SUPPORT these black men going against the odds and taking their success into their own hands! If you have a dad, brother, uncle, male cousin, son, stepson…you have to go! This movie succeeding may just help open doors for one of them, one day. Think deeper!

GO WATCH TAKERS and DON’T bootleg it!

  88. TEE August 27, 2010

@JONBERRY: agree with everything you have said on this blog. Yes we get it he made a mistake, but he trying to turn his life around, he was 19 years old when the incident happened he is 21 now…give the young man a break. Also, that’s good someone finally called Rihanna out, people are finally seeing her true nature. Her albums are not successful, with the exception of GGGB (reloaded), so she hooks up with popular rappers to get #1’s.

  89. TEE August 27, 2010

I thinks everyone should support the movie whether your black or white. Just go out and support a great cast.

  90. Lol August 27, 2010

This song is clearly about Rihanna! Lol these two are a trip…I guess trying to get over my “first big love” would be tough for me too.

This has gotten pathetic already, chris.

First 2dcs, now this song about Rihanna….Chris…a little advice….”she aint thinkin about you either” lol

  91. Me August 27, 2010

@ TEE, I agree. Every race should go see it. But it goes without saying, that the lineup BEHIND the film is not as common, so we should make sure it is rewarded.

  92. Lady August 27, 2010

    @Lol
Well no duh! We all know its about Rihanna! And I only recall 25% of ONE of his CDs being about Rihanna where Rihanna’s whole last album was about him. So whats your point boo?

    @VA STAND UP!!!!

The media will continue to vilify Chris Brown because it MAKES MONEY!!! Once Chris regains his career success, they will start kissing his ass again, but only SOME in the media NOT all.

As for MJ, SOME people in the media were nice after his death, NOT all. People on FOX News were calling him a p*** and degrading him. Remember, his body wasn’t even cold yet. A LOT of people in the media complained about the coverage of his death but deep down they know it wasn’t done to “glorify” Michael, it was done to MAKE MONEY!!!

  100. jonberry August 27, 2010

    @TEE,

Thanks and let me add that I agree with you. I know I can be hard on Rihanna and I don’t wish her ill but her success is just an illusion! The praise that she has been given, the fact that she can say anything (all i want for Christmas is good food and great S** WTH???), do anything (simulates masterbating on stage in front of her young fans), and no media outlet says anything about it is truly coming to an end. There will always be the tired Oprah’s of the world who insist that women can do no wrong and supports the notion that a female smacking around a male is “peachy” but he must be castrated if he hits her back! But the rest of the society is beginnning to wake the hell up!

  101. PLAIN AND SIMPLE August 27, 2010

    Good Afternoon Chris Fans

I went to see the movie and it was very good!!! I left work and went to an early show thinking everyone else would be at work WRONG!!!!!! It was crowded. Well another friend that could not get off work today wanted to see it tomorrow and guess what I’m going yes I going to see it again.

  102. X,Y,”and Z” August 27, 2010

K, I JUST got back in the house. Like I’d said, I bought 10-tickets and they ALL said “TAKERS” on the ticket AND the ticket stubs!

NOW, if ANYONE doesn’t believe that I (X,Y,”and Z”) went and bough ’em, they can CALL the theater: 301-949-6426, ‘Montgomery Royal Theatres.’ Maybe you should ask for the ticket counter/cashier. The cashier looked like an Asian(indian)dude. When I said I wanted 10-tickets(?), his eyes popped-open! That show date: Friday, August 27th 2:50pm Matinee $8.00/ticket, $80 in total(not including taking my noisy kin-folk out for eats afterwards) <<– I can think of NO BETTER WAY to spend my hard-earned currency-trading funds …!!!!

Like I said, call the theater, talk to the cashier, ask him if he remembers a dude, with a red Washington Nationals T-shirt and a blue adidas! He won't forget me, when I was leaving the theater, he actually came over and shook my hand and asked me – "if I liked the movie!"
He won't forget me, I was the one, most of the ladies were trying to get at: dat dude with the easy-stride and strong-swagger …!!!

LIKE I SAID, CALL THE THEATER, ASK THEM – 1-301-949-6426 ..

Oh, I just looked at my tickets, they're numbered, I have tickets #19-28 ….!!!!!

  103. PLAIN AND SIMPLE August 27, 2010

I wish that one day it will become SHAMEFUL for black people buy/make/sell a movie with black leads/producers/actors, etc. Seriously, STOP jeopardizing stuff. You should feel like an ASSSS! Ok, so you can’t afford to go to the movies, save or and have someone else take you. Effin PATHETIC! When did we stop looking at the BIG PICTURE with our decisions/actions? Sigh…whatever

I saw it tonight (in NYC)! It was good. I wasn’t bored for one minute. The theater was mostly black people, except for one of my friends and a LOT of OLDER White people…like 70s/80. I was like…hmm…ok…yay! lol

On the way home, I checked out the AMC in Times Square and it was CRAAAAZY! TON of people and a lot of SOLD OUT signs flashing for Takers! (clapping)

  111. Lady August 28, 2010

Wow lol at everybody thinking his tweet was directed at a certain popstar. I thought he was talking about something completely different. LOL! You gotta love that dude. He can tweet something so simple and people think so much about it. Keep doing you Chris. I love it when he makes people mad for no reason at all! Anyways go out and support Takers!

    @Me
    Thats good news!

  112. Me August 28, 2010

WHy do I keep seeing people say on Twitter that their Takers showing either messed up,burned or stopped and that the theater issued them refunds. WTH is all that? Y’all know I’m skeptical since that whole “stealing presidential election” thing, lol

  113. VA STAND UP!! August 28, 2010

OMG!! I saw ‘Takers tonight and it was soo good! So much better than I expected! Of course there was plenty of eye candy, but the movie was so much more than just a bunch of pretty bpys. It had a really good story line and had you on the edge of your seat the entire time! It wasn’t hard to follow, but at the same time had plent y of twist and “OMG” moments! It was really a solid film! Well worth the $10 bucks that it cost to see it! ‘

Of course when I went to go see it there was a bunch of screaming girls! I expected their to be some, but it was worse than I expected! TI and Idris got a lot of whitles, but everytime CB came on the screen they just went crazy! The very first scene Cb was in, they appaulded! I was like WTF?? Ya’ll knew he was gonna be in the movie this is not a damn concert! SMH! I love that he got so much love, but it got old quick.

TI really surprised me! His character was so smooth and he really played that part well. He kept you second guessing cause you really couldn’t tell if he was a good or bad guy.

Hayden was suprisingly believable as a tough guy. It didn’t seem forced like I though it would be.

Idris is so freaking s***! Loved that accent and his storyline was one of the best!

Paul was so dreamy! He was like the night and shining armor that kept coming to save the day! He really played his part well too.

Chris was so adorable and his chase seen was the highlight of the film! You can’t help but love his character Jessie. The chemistry with CB’s and Michael characters was so genuine and they were really believable as brothers.

Even though they were the cops that was trying to take down the “Takers’, you also found yourselves rooting for Matt Dillon and Jay Hernedez’s characters. There is a nice lil plot twist that you wouldn’t have seen coming involving them.

I can see now why Zoe was like no where promoting the film, she was barely in the movie. She wasn’t really missed though. *shrugs*

One minor complaint that I had was, which is what a lot of user reviews I read on different sites were saying, was that we needed more background informatoin on the characters. We had no idea how this diverse group of characters came together and why. Besides a couple of scenes where with some of the characters, you got a glimpse of their personal lives, we really didn’t know anything about them. *shrugs*

Ovearll, I give this movie a B+! There were a couple of cheesy scenes and unbelieveable moments, but it was very entertaining and a definitely a solid film worth paying to see. So go see it and support our boy!

  114. Lady August 28, 2010

@Lady: I don’t get it! What did that tweet mean? Who does everyone thing he is talking about?? Rihanna?? Is she on twitter now? I though her label ran twitter?

Anywho, I forgot to mention in my last extremely long post, that I saw this interview with CB, Ti and Mchael about a possible ‘sequel’. When asked about it, TI hinted that they were in talks to do a ‘prequel’ to the film so that you could see how the characters came together. He said that we just have to wait and see how ‘Takers’ will do. I’m pretty sure it will do well, so I guess it is safe to say that we are gonna get another film! Yaaayyy! I’m excited already!

FIRST BOX OFFICE: ‘Last Exorcism’ Takes ‘The Takers’ Because Of 668 More Runs

FRIDAY PM: Sources are giving me these very early North American grosses. I’ll be refining numbers and writing an analysis shortly:

    1. The Last Exorcism (Lionsgate) NEW [2,874 Theaters]
    Friday $8.5M, Estimated Weekend $23.2M

    2. The Takers (Screen Gems/Sony) NEW [2,206 Theaters]
    Friday $7.2M, Estimated Weekend $20.3M

    3. The Expendables (Lionsgate) Week 3 [3,398 Theaters]
    Friday $2.5M (-51%), Estimated Weekend $8.2M, Estimated Cume $81M

    4. Eat Pray Love (Sony) Week 3 [3,108 Theaters]
    Friday $2.0M (-46%), Estimated Weekend $6.4M, Estimated Cume $60.5M

    5. The Other Guys (Sony) Week 4 [3,181 Theaters]
    Friday $1.8M (-40%), Estimated Weekend $5.8M, Estimated Cume $99M

You might want to see Takers a few more times this weekend to make it number 1. Some other sites are saying it’ll only make $14-15 mil. I thought it was entertaining and fun to watch myself. I think they want it it to make at least $25 mil to consider it a big success.

  117. Lady August 28, 2010

    @Va Stand Up
I thought he was talking about something else but you know Rihanna stans they would like to believe evrything he says is about Rihanna and yes she runs her twitter now. Oh well. He still gaining those followers so who gonna check him? Lol.

  118. Lady August 28, 2010

Takers is expect to gross 15 million this weekend which is good. And its sales are good if thats true. If the last whatever has more theaters than Takers of course is is gonna sell more. But 7.2 million within like 24 hours or release to theaters is good. If it generates sales like that tomorrow and sunday Takers should be good.

  119. X,Y,”and Z” August 28, 2010

    @T.R/Lady —

K, I just read THIS over at/on http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2899&p=.htm. To tell the truth, I really DON’T understand what THIS dude means, maybe y’all can help me out:

“Takers nabbed a 7.1 percent first weekend score, but its comparables are all over the map: if its appeal is closer to Armored, The Losers or Street Kings, that 7.1 percent result would mean a poor performance, but, if it’s more like ATL, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift or Brooklyn’s Finest, it would point to a solid debut.
Meanwhile, Avatar: Special Edition has packed a strong 21.7 percent for opening weekend, though that is likely heavily skewed by the movie’s fandom.”

@T.R. — I see “Avatar” wasn’t in your sources’ Top-5, but according to boxofficemojo, they expected it to do well! But with ONLY 825 screens! T.R. I await your “final-analysis and refinement” with “bated breath” ….

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT …!!!!

  120. X,Y,”and Z” August 28, 2010

Oh, and I was looking at the “comps” and “Foreign sales-receipts.” You know, I think “Takers” will do well overseas; I’m especially curious to see just how well it does in England/Europe. I was looking at what “SALT” returned, which starred Angelina Jolie. It cost $110-Million to produce, made $36-million its Opening Weekend, but its “Total Lifetime Grosses” = $111-Million(domestic)+$106Million(Foreign)=$217 Worldwide. It was shown on 3,612 screens.

I’m really curious to see, given Chris not performing in Europe, if this’ll “test” my theory that his noted absence gave rise to something of a “ground-swell of support by his fans who’re longing to see him!” … So if not live, on-stage; then getting the “best-action sequences” in this glossy high-crime drama movie …..!!

  121. Lady August 28, 2010

Why are they counting Takers first week scores before sunday anyway? It just came out yesterday lol.

  122. Me August 28, 2010

Annnd that FIRST BOX OFFICE report was posting those #s before the west coast night shows. I was like, what are they writing this and it’s still like 7pm on the West Coast? You know they are trying to make it look like Takers isnt #1, JUST like Twitter kept either BLOCKING it from being a TT or keeping it on the VERY LAST slot. I was like..oh here they go with the BS”. I also kept seeing people on Twitter saying they were gonna wait to see it bootleg and that some already knew someone who had it bootleg. Why are some of our people so dumb? So basically, the racists HOPE this fails and the dumb black bootlegging supporters are helping to make the racists happy.

  123. Me August 28, 2010

Look at the shade this one threw, JUST on takers. Can people BE any more OBVIOUS are their “views”?

    http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/08/26/box-office-preview-takers-and-last-exorcism-vie-for-first-place/

That’s why I was annoyed with black folks on twitter saying they read the “reviews” and they weren’t good, so they were gonna pass on seeing it. So glad this new mindset wasn’t as prevalent back during slavery, or we’d ALL still be slaves.

Don’t expect any blockbusters this weekend. With Labor Day weekend still one week away, two lower-profile new releases are headed to the theaters this frame. And with Takers and The Last Exorcism battling for the first-place spot, the winner will likely be whichever one can hit $15 million — if either of them can, that is. Here are my predictions for how it will all turn out.

    1. Takers: $14 million

The old adage “any publicity is good publicity” might just ring true this weekend. Takers received its biggest publicity bump back in February 2009 when Chris Brown, who co-stars in the movie, attacked then-girlfriend Rihanna. Plenty of time has passed since then — and according to the tracking numbers, all has been forgotten. It helps that Takers doesn’t just star Brown. In fact, the film centers on a group of bank robbers played by Paul Walker, Brown, and Idris Elba, who spar with a pair of tired cops played by Matt Dillon and Jay Hernandez. The movie opens in 2,206 theaters, and tracking has been strong. With not much else in the marketplace, a $14 million opening isn’t out of the question.

    2. The Last Exorcism: $13 million

The Eli Roth-produced horror film will open in 2,874 theaters. Roth has been working overtime promoting the movie, which features no real stars and was shot documentary-style à la Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Audience reaction has been favorable to the flick, even if reviews have been middling. Expect a decent opening for this PG-13-rated drama from director Daniel Stamm.

    3. The Expendables: $10 million

Who would have thought that the 63-year old Sylvester Stallone would be pulling in over $70 million for his tale featuring over-the-hill action stars. But pull he has, and with little competition this frame, expect the third weekend of The Expendables to feature a smaller drop-off than the second. This guy could actually cross $100 million — and we haven’t begun to see what kind of business he can do overseas with this one.

    4. Eat Pray Love: $6 million

In contrast, I think this Julia Roberts-starrer will fall at least 50 percent. With women preoccupied with back-to-school, the idea of them heading to the movies might be a bit much for a film that’s been in theaters for two weekends already. With $52 million in its coffers, Eat Pray Love is going to have a more difficult time reaching the sweet $100 million mark than Expendables.

    5. The Other Guys: $5 million

With $92 million in its coffers, The Other Guys should near the $100 million mark after this weekend. And that’s good news for Will Ferrell, who’s back in prime form with his buddy comedy opposite Mark Wahlberg.

x, y and z – the “final analysis and refinement” and box office scoring isn’t mine. I got that information from someone’s website…though I can’t remember the name. I just relisted it to show what people think the numbers will be. Personally I’d like to see Taker’s have the number one spot and gross at least $25 mil this weekend. From what I’ve heard through the interviews etc, that’s what the makers of the movie would like to see in order to consider the movie a hit and whether to make any additional movies.

Besides I’d hate to see it loose to Last Exorcism which doesn’t even remotely boast anyone familiar and from what I’ve read from viewers isn’t that good. I didn’t realize Takers was on less screens until I read this. Where I am a lot of theaters have it and about 3-4 have double screenings. I do know if Takers is to take the number 1 spot (no pun intended) since it’s on less screens it has to be seen more. That’s really why I posted it.

And by the way X,Y and Z just to give you some info from my side., I went to a 10 am screening Friday morning, which had about 40-50% capacity and mixed demo. I sat next to an older white woman and saw several white couples and people and a few weren’t “young” i.e. in their 20’s or 30’s. I was shocked that many people where there that early, I mean I specifically went to that screening to avoid the crowds. Matinees that early aren’t usually that full so it gave me a positive feeling that Takers would be #1. But after reading the above numbers on that guy’s website, it kind of got me a little worried especially, if Last Exorcism is on more screens.

In conclusion I just posted the information to show people what Takers is up against. I hope that makes sense.

Lady – I get the feeling they do this every week for every movie., as far as tracking. Studios are highly nervous about movies these days and maybe they decide if they need to boost some last minute “publicity”

  126. T.R. August 28, 2010

P.S. here’s what one website is saying the actual screen numbers are

“For the penultimate weekend of the summer, The Last Exorcism aims to possess first place with an estimated 3,500 screens at 2,874 locations, while Takers busts in on around 2,600 screens at 2,206 locations.” So Exorcism is actually on 900 more screens than Takers not 600 when you count double screenings at the locations. Yahoo movie viewers are giving Exorcism a C overall and a lot of the reviewers are giving it an F in many categories and saying it sucks. Takers has an A- overall and is getting decent to very good reviews. So we’ll see how today’s box office goes.

  127. Me August 28, 2010

Twitter is doing some funny stuff. They’re not showing my tweets! I’m posting about supporting Takers, not bootlegging it, black people stick together, etc. This country is soooo messed up. UGH!

  128. Me August 28, 2010

With the fewer screens, it can also make the per screen $ higher. If both movies made $10 million. Takers would have earned more $ per screen, than the other one b/c 10million divided by 20 is more money than if you divided it by 1000.

“Takers” has been around for a minute. Finished over a year ago, it’s believed that T.I. and Chris Brown’s legal problems delayed the movie’s release. (Producer Will Packer told CNN.com that Brown’s conviction had nothing to do with it.) But now that it’s out, will “Takers” satisfy fans drawn to the movie because of its array of photogenic stars? Well, yes.

Read on for the reasons why “Takers” should be on your viewing list this weekend.

    1. It’s actually good.

Honestly, I had little expectation for “Takers.” But given the cast, who really cared about the plot? The surprise here is that “Takers” is actually a good action flick, the kind of movie that moviegoers like. Critics won’t be praising it because it’s not the kind of movie that critics would like. But if you saved up your $10 – $12 dollars to see it in the theater instead buying the bootleg, you won’t be mad. It’s action-packed, not totally what you expect, and there are some action sequences so good, I don’t even want to ruin them for you. Ignore the critics on this one, and sit back and enjoy the ride.

    2. Idris Elba.

Of course there are many (young) women who can appreciate the good-looking Chris Brown, the Southern homeboy swagger of T.I., the gorgeousness that is Michael Ealy, the sultry sexiness of the underrated Jay Hernandez, the Cali cuteness of Paul Walker and the skateboarder hotness of Hayden Christenson. Even Matt Dillon has his fans. But believe me, the grown women among us will spend the entire movie salivating on the best British import since The Beatles. Not only would we like to thank the State Department for granting Mr. Elba his papers to work in the U.S.; we’d also like to thanks Elba’s parents, his grandparents and his ancestors in Ghana and Sierra Leone for coming together to create him. In “Takers,” not only does he wear suits better than any other man onscreen, but he is using his natural British accent. Sigh.

    3. It’s a great date movie.

The thing about “Takers” is that it’s one of the rare movies that both men and women will enjoy. Despite the female-skewing eye candy, it’s a solid action movie that men can relate to. In other words, it’s the perfect date movie. There will be no complaints about it from either gender. While the women are primed by the sexiness of its stars, all that testosterone and action should make for a good night after the movie ends. You heard it here first.

    4. You’re supporting black Hollywood behind the scenes.

Veteran actor Gabriel Casseus (you know his face) was a co-producer and co-screenwriter on the film; Will Packer of “Stomp The Yard” and “Trois” fame produced it for his Rainforest Films, and Jason Geter and T.I. of Grand Hustle co-produced. That makes “Takers” a Hollywood rarity – a film that has a host of African-Americans in the power seats behind the scenes.

    5. There could be a “Takers 2.”

There is enough room in the first script to create a second movie, which would mean that we’d get to see some of the cast again. But of course, I won’t ruin the movie for you by telling you who survives the caper – and could make it to the sequel. If you go out and support the movie, you can help create a demand for that sequel, which will mean more work for more black talent and allow more of our actors and behind-the-scenes folks to make more movies we enjoy. So, make it out to the theaters and check out “Takers” so “Takers 2” can get on the production schedule!

    @T.R. —

… REAL TALK, I had temporarily left the crew/party I went to the theater with, all 9 noisy, can’t-keep-still of my nephew/niece and their friends, to have a quick-look at that “Exorcist” movie. I stayed and watched it for a good 10-20 minutes; IT SUCKED ….!!!!!

… FOR REAL!!! … Not because I’m strong on/with ‘Team-Breezy, but that Exorcist shyt(?), it just …. SUCKED ….!!! The scariest parts, the parts I saw, were like…. of that little girl doing contorted gymnastic-sort of stuff, THEN scary-music being played behind ’em. It was predictable; looked played-out and was seriously transparent — long-story short(?), IT JUST SUCKED …!!!

@Lady/Me — I’m curious to see “the numbers” from Chicago, and cities out west (LA), will bring in!

And I’d really like to see if ‘Takers’ will be viewed overseas. I think the cast has international appeal. And, as I’d said, with Chris not touring the U.K., I’m curious to see if the “ground-swell” to see him will carry-over into putting folks in seats at/in U.K./European theaters!

  131. T.R. August 28, 2010

X, Y and Z I’m in LA and so my experience at the 10 am show yesterday was over here on the West Coast. And I’d like to see that international market also.

  132. X,Y,”and Z” August 28, 2010

@T.R. — I just saw this, I’d like your input:

    http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2010-08-27&p=.htm

It seems the (1)”Exorcist” movie is leading (2)”Takers” — $9.4 > $7.5 (ESTIMATED). This was for Friday ONLY. I don’t really know what normally happens over/during the weekends, but I’m guessing, that Saturday; not-a-work-day AND early-midday/evening-late night showings SHOULD be better than just-ONLY Friday’s “after-work shows,” yes? In any case, on a per/theater basis, $3,400 “Takers” wins ..!!! I thinking it SHOULD “push-past” $15-Million and near-up to $20-Million! And with the “word-of-mouth” bout “exorcist’ and its “suckyness,” maybe theater-goers will just “catch-on” and won’t go to see it and see, the only REAL “game-in-town: Takers …!!” ; – 9 (WINK)

    … Any news on if it’ll be shown in Europe/The U.K. …??

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT …!!!!

  133. X,Y,”and Z” August 28, 2010

    @T.R/Lady my ‘Team-Breezy family’ —

K, I JUST found these (VERY interesting/informative, to say the least):

“If the early, rough estimates found at Nikki Finke‘s Deadline.com are correct, both Daniel Stamm‘s mockumentary The Last Exorcism and John Luessenhop‘s heist thriller The Takers, which features Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, and Matt Dillon, will perform way above expectations this weekend.
Both movies were expected to earn around $15m-$16m, but the estimates found at Deadline have The Last Exorcism grossing $23.2m for the weekend after (early, rough) estimates of $8.5m for Friday (clearly including Thursday midnight screenings) and Takers pulling in $20.3m following a(n) (early, rough) $7.2m Friday gross.
The Last Exorcism is playing at about 670 more theaters than Takers, which had a higher per-theater estimated gross, $3,263 (vs. Exorcism‘s $2,957).
… Remember, those are early, very rough estimates from Finke’s sources. Official studio estimates will be released Saturday morning. Official figures will be out on Monday.” BUT, I found an even MORE interesting article, with facts/info I’d not realized:

“The urban crime drama Takers didn’t have a bad showing either on Friday. With around $7 million earned its opening day, the Screen Gems release starring Paul Walker, Idris Elba and Chris Brown could also generate a weekend take of over $20 million. It’s unclear which film will walk away with top weekend honors. (To come in first, Exorcism would have to hold off a steep drop, which often happens with horror flicks.)” <–Here's the link: hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/08/28/last-exorcism-tops-takers-for-friday-night-win-at-the-box-office/

    So, "if trends hold to-the-norm," we can STILL be #1, and be-north-of $20-Million! ; – 9(wink)

    LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO 'Team-Breezy' ………

    X,Y,"and Z" — OUT …!!!!

  134. T.R. August 28, 2010

X, Y and Z it’s hard to say. I agree with your assessment regarding Friday being a work day and this week a lot of kids started school so I think tonight is the really big push plus early Sunday especially east coast. I’ve seen them call box office sales as early as Sunday afternoon roughly 2-4pm west coast time. In regards to Europe, from the interviews I think they are REALLY focusing on how this weekend goes before deciding they’re next step whether it’s how to market internationally or make a prequal. I heard T.I. say he’d like to see a $25 mil weekend so that’s what I think they will consider a smash hit for them. Granted it may be ambitious but if Friday was 7.2 mil, if they do 11-12 today which is roughly 4,230 – 4,615 per screen and 5-7 mil tomorrow they’ll easily make that 25 or close to it. So today is the day. If T.I. and Chris Brown can get their young girl fan base in PG-13 and Idris, Michael Ealy the older women and Paul Walker, Hayden Christine, Matt Dillion and Jay Hernandez bring in the rest of the women, plus boyfriends….it’s got a good shot. But I agree that word of mouth for Exorcism being bad and Takers being good is key.

I’ll be seeing it again, tonight and will squeeze in one more early morning show tomorrow. I just told a friend of mine in Houston and she’s going to check it out tonight also. They REALLY mass marketed here in LA. I mean the buses, bill boards and benches, etc. And not just in the “hood” areas. I saw them ALL over LA and on the big bill boards in the front of the malls here. Also, there was a very sympathetic write up in the LA Times about the director and how Screen Gems waited for him to direct this for 5 years because his son had some very severe medical issues which him and his wife had to handle. So I’m hoping his “friends” will support the movie to support him. I actually saw one commenter say they would. So there’s another twist to the movie. Actually it said Tyrese and Terence Howard were originally supposed to star in it 5 years ago…what parts they didn’t say. Hmmm, wonder how that would have looked.

Here’s that link if you’re interested in reading it….though right after that the LA Times film critic gave the move a D. LOL go figure. http://articles.latimes.com/2010/aug/25/entertainment/la-et-takers-20100825.

Again, it’s hard to say because so many black people judge a movie simply because it’s not some deep “we are all just so perfect middle/upper middle class making it and doing great while we’re at our poetry slam and showing how black people are too intelligent and successful or over came slavery and poverty with dignity and spiritual grace” movie then we call it ghetto. LOL don’t get me wrong I think those movies are great but they aren’t always real for every body. When we are allowed to make diverse movies that good, bad and just plain ole suck then I’ll be happy. Besides truth be told I think right now the majority of black folks don’t want to see deep and down trodden who over came or we so successful educated bubbies. Hell a lot of us are LIVING the pain. To be honest I think that’s why alot of us didn’t go see Precious cause a lot of us are LIVING it. I mean I ain’t no Madea fan but I get why so many of us like her and TP films in general. I like some of his films especially the WDIGM franchise. When life is bad people in general want to see comedies/action/etc. Look at the top movies over the last year. I will put money the top grossing are deep dramas but action (Avatar, Iron Man, Expendables), fantasy (Twighlight series), Animation (Toy Story 3 and Shrek) and comedies (the Other Guys). Look at how “Bad” this years Oscar for best picture was. Not a truly deep/break your heart down trodden holocaust, slavery, historical british movie in the bunch…LOL

Sorry but the long windedness. Got a little sidetrack…but would love to hear your take on my last point.

  135. Me August 28, 2010

I read something that said that there seems to be a trend with horror movies where after the 1st day, once word gets out about it, ticket sales typically go down…unless people are saying it’s actually scary…and they’re NOT saying that about Exorc.

  136. T.R. August 28, 2010

X,Y and Z – LOL I see we “crossed paths” as I typed my long winded diatribe. Anyway, maybe Takers will get lucky regarding Exorcism not getting good scary reviews. We’ll have to see. I actually didn’t know that about horror movies. They aren’t my genre.

  137. Me August 28, 2010

    @ T.R.
“Again, it’s hard to say because so many black people judge a movie simply because it’s not some deep “we are all just so perfect middle/upper middle class making it and doing great while we’re at our poetry slam and showing how black people are too intelligent and successful or over came slavery and poverty with dignity and spiritual grace” movie then we call it ghetto. ”

I agree. There seems to be a lot of “This better be GOOD” when speaking about takers, but I dont see it about Expend,Exorc, etc. Just like (not to take it this far back) on Apollo amateur night, when a black person came out to sing and just did OK, it tended to be a lot different than when a white person just did OK. They’d clap to encourage the white one and quickly boo the black one.

Anyway, it was interesting today to see some black ppl on Twitter talking about theyre going to bootleg it , pickup the dvd at the barber shop today, etc, but were going to see Exorc, b/c they didnt want to waste money on Takers (a movie with BLACK executive producers) or they werent going b/c of what some “critics” said…and if they just looked at the TTs there was a “racist”rally in the 1st or 2nd spot. Like…HOW is that not motivation or a sign that mayyyyybe SOME people in this country don’t have your best interest at heart or would NOT want to see this movie succeed for a stupid reason?

Ok, Im done. SOrry for grammatical errors.

  138. T.R. August 28, 2010

@ Me to be fair I went through a period in the early 2000’s where I just couldn’t get myself to see a “black” movie. I don’t know what it was but I just couldn’t. I mean I don’t go see a lot of TP movies and I’m boycotting the hell out of Spike Lee…LOL that’s a whole other story. But I will admit, I’ve stopped going to movies in general like I used to when I was younger and up through the 90’s. I think my sensibilities just changed and movies in general were getting on my damn nerves. Again, that’s another long story….LOL

I understand your position about supporting black producers etc. However, as much as I love black people we can not put each other in a box. You got to take the good with the bad. Meaning we do have a right to not see or boycott something we don’t like and unfortunately we are just like all Americans in that respect. I agree Takers wasn’t a bad movie but you have to admit there are bad black movies and people do have a right to not see them. Now as far as bootlegging goes, if you must do it wait for the DVD release date…I mean damn let the box office have it’s shot.

I don’t know how old you are but I’ve realized as I get older some things you just got to let go or you’ll be mad all the damn time and won’t be able to live your life and get your game on. And to be honest that’s what I think a lot of this stuff is about. Keeping people mad, sad, depressed and upset so they won’t focus on their own lives and what’s really important. That’s the real game. Cause if you keep people focused on the -ism’s then they won’t focus on themselves and realize that the -ism’s are a game to keep you out of the real bounty and game of life. :O) Just my two cents. I don’t want to take it too deep since we all just came off a hard week of work and just trying to enjoy a movie….LOL

  139. Me August 29, 2010

    TR

I see what you’re saying. I guess I remember a time when we had a lot of black shows on TV and just seemed to be represented more. I can’t help but be proud of a bunch of young black men (you know, the demographic this country tries to make seem worthless) who got together and put themselves in this position. And the extra shade that’s been thrown at this movie , just made me root for it even more. I guess I’m going to try to stop following politics for a while. It just points out too much of the ugly stuff and I don’t want to become “mad all the damn time”,lol.

Re: your last point — In difficult times, “escapism” seems to be the “order of the day …!!” That fact/want/need trumps all, be it – “nationalism”, ethnocentrism” or whatever subsect of “socio-economic race-centrism” you may encounter …!!!

Escapism …?! …. Trust; when Chris had that bag-of-loot strapped over HIS shoulder, running from the cops, “my often-suppressed inner-urbanite,” came-to-fore: I was yelling at the movie screen — “N****, DON’T YOU DROP THAT MONEY …!!” When he tossed that bag, in the bushes(?), my heart just sank …!!!

And regarding a movie shown on a Friday, what I meant was – given that it is a weekday, you don’t really have “all day” to see the movie, only AFTER work. But on a weekend, like a Saturday/Sunday, I should think that $7.5M would be, at least, “matched” …!! So, WE CONCUR! I think anything @20-Mil is good, no? And I don’t know if it’s a misprint, maybe you can check, but was that Exorcist movie made for ONLY $1.8?! No wonder it looked, felt and smelled of leatherette-plastic furniture covered by/with an outdoor plastic-tarp …!!!! I just got back from seeing Takers and it was wonderful! The action was incredible. It was a very well executed film! Do not believe any review that says otherwise! Every member of the cast, and I do mean every member of the cast (i.e. Chris Brown) held their own, played their part to perfection, and should be commended!

  142. MyWay August 29, 2010

    @VA STAND UP!!

Very good assessment of the film. I, on some level felt for all of the charcaters. The actors did a great job of humanizing each one. I’m not going to lie however, I was all for the TAKERS CREW!

I am glad that people showed Chris alot of love! We know that certain media have really been going hard at him again, about that…. well I’m not even in the mood to mention it! So I say kudos to the folks in VA for supporting the hometown boy! 🙂

  143. MyWay August 29, 2010

Okay, I have been reading through the comments and I must say that I am a tad confused. I believe it was LADY above who stated “why are they talking about first day ticket sells”? I thought the movie reviewers typically saved their comments for the first weekend’s total numbers? Well, given that Takers is being shown in fewer theaters than The Last Exorcism, how in the world can they possibly compare the two? Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed Takers and would recommend it to anyone!

  144. X,Y,”and Z” August 29, 2010

@My Way — Yup, “Takers” is being seen in fewer theaters/screens AND “Exorcist” was shown Thursday night, which gave it a $750K head-start, in the box-office race for supremacy…!!! But, as I’ve just learned, horror flicks have a tendency to sharply drop-off AFTER the first day of their showing. And besides, I saw a part of that “Exorcist” movie — IT SUCKED …!!! The only folks that movie will scare are folks who ALREADY wanna be scared!

Real Talk — It was corny, grainy(guess that was the documentary style it was shot in), predictable and just …. silly …!!!!

Here’s some of the GOOD-things being said bout “Takers”:

“As mentioned in my previous post, Daniel Stamm‘s mockumentary The Last Exorcism and John Luessenhop‘s heist thriller The Takers performed above expectations on Friday.
Most pundits predicted those two late August entries would collect approximately $15m-$16m over the weekend, but figures will likely be considerably higher for both.”

Please tell everyone to keep checking their ticket. I’ve seen people say they were given tickets for Expendables and Piranhas

    Here’s the update for Saturday….

SATURDAY PM 2ND UPDATE: Lionsgate’s The Last Exorcism will win the weekend with $22.6M after Saturday’s domestic box office fell -15% from Friday’s for $8 million. Sony/Screen Gems’ Takers on Saturday was $8.2M, up +9% from Friday which will put the pic at $21M for the weekend if Sunday holds. As expected, The Last Exorcism won the weekend box office only because of its theater count advantage. Moviegoers gave the pic a really rare CinemaScore of “D”, meaning they hated the pic. Then again, Lionsgate acquired the pic for under $1M. But Takers was a surprisingly close No. 2 because it had been tracking so weakly prior to release. Its CinemaScore was a “B”. Lionsgate has 2 films in the Top 3 and ruled the box office for 3 straight weeks; Sony has 3 films in the Top 5. No one knew what to expect of Fox’s re-release of Jim Cameron’s Avatar: Special Edition, with an extra 9 minutes of footage, into 812 IMAX and 3D theaters in the U.S. and Canada. It placed just out of the Top 10 with $1.2M Friday and $1.5M Saturday for a $3.8M weekend and a new domestic cume of $753.5M. As one rival studio exec tells me, “No tears shed.” Overall, the weekend was looking at $110M, still -20% from last year. Fuller analysis coming. Numbers will be refined in the morning.

    1. The Last Exorcism (Lionsgate) NEW [2,874 Theaters]
    Friday $9.5M, Saturday $8M, Weekend $22.6M

    2. Takers (Screen Gems/Sony) NEW [2,206 Theaters]
    Friday $7.5M, Saturday $8.2M, Weekend $21M

If it’s this close I think if we all go see it again, it could push through and upset everyone. I think Exorcism could fall short again tomorrow and if we give Sunday a last big push Takers could eek by with a win and shock the hell out of everybody. LOL. I saw it again tonight and will make one more trip tomorrow. Something about how everyone thinks Exorcism will take it is making me really want to upset it. Also finding out it was on more theaters. But to me that’s Screen Gems fault. So since the numbers are so close, as of tonight there’s a 1.8 mil difference and Exorcism did fall off while Takers went up. I’m still hoping word of mouth will bring Takers up or hold steady with another 8. If it does well on Sunday I think it’ll take the weekend.

  147. Me August 29, 2010

It’s looking good. I see a lot of ppl complaining that it’s sold out and so they end up going to see Exorcism. I tweeted several times telling people to stop doing that. Either buy a later show, go online and buy a ticket or come back later. Also, Ive been trying to remind people the importance of seeing takers THIS WEEKEND as opposed to watching Exorc, etc and saving Takers for next week. I know I’ve been annoying people with my tweets.

  148. Me August 29, 2010

AWww man. Ok, Twitter is making me wait a few hours to send more tweets. This is what I was sending to people who were sayng they were gonna see it next week or trying to decide what to see:

THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE! I just don’t trust this media, they have really done all they could to discourage ppl from seeing TAKERS its really disgusting!

    @ME,

THANK YOU FOR SPREADING THE WORDS AS TO THE IMPORTANCE OF GOING TO SEE THE MOVIE THIS WEEKEND! I just don’t understand ppl. Learn the game and play it. That is truly the only way to win! If the numbers game is what they use to determine success of a film then okay do that, go out and support the move or purchase the CD the 1st week!

Okay here’s the update from this morning: It is even closer than they were saying last night. I got this off the Wall Street Journal website/blog:

“The Last Exorcism” and “Takers” topped all movies at the box office this weekend.

“The Last Exorcism,” a low-budget horror movie from Lionsgate, took in $21.3 million, according to early estimates from Hollywood.com. “Takers” (Sony/Screen Gems) an action movie about a crew of thieves, grossed $21 million. Final numbers are due out on Monday. When films finish close together in the early rankings, positions sometimes shift when the final figures are released.

The LA Times gave the same numbers. Some other sites had them at 1 mil apart still. I don’t know where the WSJ or LA Times are getting their numbers but like I said one last hard push today could put Takers on top.

    @X,Y,”and Z”

You are right, the “Exorcist” was shown Thursday night! I repeat, how can the two movies be accurately compared when they started on different days and one is being shown in less theaters? In any event, thanks for keeping us all informed! I think I might see it again today. To me it was just that enjoyable!

Peace CB Fans, and keep requesting Deuces. I hope that they don’t pull a fast one and cheat Chris out of having a number one single on the charts!

Since Im on Twitter lockdown for a few hours- UGGGH, can someone Tweet & RT that if ppl get to the theater and Takers is sold out, to NOT buy Exorcism. A lot of ppl have been doing that. It’s like dang, buy a ticket to something else, ANYTHING else…if you just have to see something. NOT the competition.

or reply to @JasonGeter or @tip and tell them to add that to their updates. DAMMIT, I’m so annoyed I cant do anything on Twitter.

Sucks that Takers is bringing them to the theater but since its sold out, theyre doing Exorcism as a plan B, not knowing that’s the competition.

    WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
Weekend box office charts show gross receipts for a given weekend, which is Friday through Sunday unless otherwise noted. Studio estimates for the weekend are reported on Sunday mornings, generally between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Pacific Time and reflect estimated Friday and Saturday box office receipts plus a projection for Sunday.

Actual weekend box office receipts are reported Monday, generally after 1 p.m. Pacific Time, and reflect most movies currently playing in the marketplace. A final update to the chart may be made Monday night or later in the week to reflect grosses that are reported late.

Takers is #1 final box office numbers are in Takers 20.5 million Last Exorcism 20.4. These are the final numbers not guesstimates. Both studios put in their final numbers, so these will not be changing. :O) I’m glad Takers did an upset and put egg on everyone’s face. And the fact that it did it in 900 less than Last Exorcism makes the feat even more sweet. I think it’ll do well next weekend too. Now others want to see it. And I got a good feeling LE is going to drop significantly. I haven’t heard a lot of people like it.

    So there you go.
