Following the catastrophic failure that was her ‘Bionic’ album, Christina Aguilera has reportedly been reduced to performing at private events instead of concert arenas. The former chart titan has been performing at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs for a dramatically lowered fee from her usual £1.3 million to £157,000. Check out all the details below:
Christina Aguilera has been forced to accept private gigs at weddings and Bar Mitzvahs following the cancellation of her US tour and poor sales of her album ‘Bionic’, according to reports.
‘Bionic’ was critically panned and flopped in the UK where it became the lowest-selling number one album for eight years and soon dropped out of the charts. The disc fared little better elsewhere and failed to reach the gold and platinum certifications of her previous releases.
Aguilera also came under fire for blatantly copying Lady Gaga’s visual and sonic style. Responding to the allegations, Aguilera issued a message to fans on her website saying “”This is not the first time I have been unfairly pitted against another female artist, but it will be the last time I comment on the matter.”
Speaking to Now magazine, a source said: “Christina’s performing at Bar Mitzvahs and weddings. She wanted to charge £1.3 million a time but her hubby Jordan Bratman convinced her to lower it to £157,000 so she’ll get more gigs.” {Source}
O how the mighty have fallen. Considering her horrible antics toward GaGa in the early stages of her album promotion and her arrogant behaviour in general, I bet that Aguilera wishes that she could erase this entire project from the history books.
‘Bionic’ received a massive promotional budget and Aguilera utilised almost every major opportunity (‘The Oprah Winfrey Show‘, ‘Ellen’, the MTV Movie Awards, ‘The Today Show’, ‘The Early Show’ etc) to publicise the record. However, people are just not interested in what she has to offer anymore.
Aguilera needs to regroup and humble herself because if there is anything to be learned from this situation it’s that being humble and likeable is just as important as having solid material and strong performances. One member of her extensive list of enemies, Mariah Carey, released her ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ LP last year and even though it was far from her best work the album still managed to achieve gold status partly because of her likability. Aguiera’s ‘Bionic’, on the other hand, is nearing plastic certification with just over 200k units sold. You go girl.
She’s a multi-millionaire who never needs to work again so I highly doubt she was ‘forced’ into anything. If she can really earn almost £160k for half an hour;s work i’d say things are going rather well, in fact. Stupid article.

A “source” well that says it all really. This story is BS. First of the tour is postponed not cancelled, shes doing the tour next year. Everyone talks about sales, sales, sales. That is not everything. The source used to disclose the info that Christina is being forced to perform at private gigs is an anonymous insider. Does it really make sense that she would line up a string of wedding and bar mitzvah performances in the middle of doing movie promo? Also, I think that Christina has made enough money at this point to be able to spend her free time watching her son and family (ask Forbes). Though, the most hilarious part is that the ‘journalists’ claim to have a direct quote from Christina saying that she blames Lady Gaga for poor sales (as if she goes around blabbing that kind of stuff all willy nilly and a lucky insider just happened be around to pick up the news). In fact, the only thing more transparent than the media’s attempts to bring down a talented vocalist for the sake of sensationalized tabloid garbage is Trent’s extreme hatred towards Christina. If you don’t like her music or singing style, that’s fine, then don’t listen to her. And as for blaming her attitude for her record sales, in that case a LOT of artists would never sell records. What about rappers who always start “beefs” with each other (a lot of the times it’s staged with the intent to sell records). What about rockers that constantly throw shade at each other in interviews, yeah sometimes people get pissed off and complain about that artist being disrespectful, but that has never been known to hurt their album sales. Some artists (like Morrissey for example) have a reputation of being complete assholes. But as long as they put out good music, nobody cares if they’re likeable or not. Not that I condone having a bad attitude, but if bad record sales was “karma” for being rude, then a lot of respected artists wouldn’t be successful. Spare me that b*******. Christina has had far more successes than failures, one failed album won’t be enough to kill her career. And I’d like to know what “horrible antics” she used against Gaga? Did she oil up the floor of stage right before Gaga was supposed to perform just so that Gaga would slip up or something?

If she had said that today, I could see how it would be interpreted as a diss since Gaga is literally everywhere and it’s practically impossible to not know who she is, but a couple years ago she was just another struggling pop star. And Lady Gaga does sound like the name of a drag queen, and it wouldn’t be the first time Christina got compared to drag queens, so I don’t understand why people have such a hard time accepting that she genuinely didn’t know who Gaga was and meant no shade. Face it, most of you probably didn’t know who Gaga was back in 2008, either. Artists have said far worst things about Gaga, and yet I see way less hate being thrown at them.

I think her attitude/likeability has ALOT to do with her previous record sales. Yes, it’s true that rappers/rockers have ‘beef’ or ‘throw shade’ but that’s what being that type of artist is all about, being rebellious. If anything the more clean cut you are in the rap game, the less appealing you are in that industry (aside from recent artists like Drake). The hip-hop industry drives off of ‘beef’ and altercations because that’s the ish they rap about. They appeal to the URBAN audience which is totally different from Christina’s audience. And I never said that the reason for her flop was SOLELY because of her attitude, but that I think it had something to do with it. Therfore, Rihanna’s so-called likeability isn’t solely a reason for her NOT to flop. I think you misunderstood me, because I don’t think someone’s success or lack of success is based solely on an artist’s attitude. However, I do think people take more notice to an artist’s bad attitude than they do to an artist’s good attitude. I mean that’s just the way it is. People talk more about Christina’s BAD attitude than they talk about Rihanna/Ciara/Beyonce/Gaga’s good attitude. It’s just an unwritten rule that a very popular/successful artist should be likeable.
^^ I think everyone should be likeable, but unfortunately that isn’t the case all the time. Some of my favorite artists are people I can’t stand in terms of personality. But unless it arrives to the level of Mel Gibson-type of s***, I learn to put it aside and still enjoy the music (I’m not saying that you have to do that as well).
And I’m not pretending that Christina is a saint who’s never done wrong. Sometimes she has said unnecessary things about other artists, but the amount of outrage over the recent ones is completely disproportionate to the severity of her comments. I don’t notice such a major backlash over M.I.A. calling Gaga a mimic (among other things), and she has a truly f***** up attitude, she looks her nose down on anything mainstream, and comes off as really snobby. And yes, people call her out for that too, but it’s not even as bad as the reaction towards Christina. Wasn’t Katy Perry calling out Gaga not too long ago for mixing “s** with spirituality”, yet she does the same thing, perhaps even more overtly so? Nobody lashed out at her the same way they do Christina. Even Trent said virtually nothing about the hypocrisy of it all. Some people said some unjustifiably bad things about her as well, no one seems to criticize them much. So it kinda looks like people are piling on her because it’s perfect timing to do so. I’m not saying this because I’m a fan of hers, this is just how I truly feel.
