Ne-Yo Eyes Janet For Michael Jackson-Penned Songs

Published: Tuesday 10th Aug 2010 by Sam

Prior to Michael Jackson‘s untimely passing last year, the King of Pop had clocked up studio time with the likes of RedOne, will.i.am, and Ne-Yo. For the latter, though, what to do with the material he wrote for Jackson has been weighing on his mind.

In a recent interview, however, he revealed that he wants Janet Jackson and the Jackson 5 to record some of the songs he penned for their late brother.

His comments after the jump…

“I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with those songs. I can’t give them to anybody else because they were written for Michael. That would be disrespectful.

So if I could get Janet and the brothers to do a collaborative tribute, that would be a great idea. There are about 10 he personally selected. He told me, ‘I like this one, this one, this one.’ I can’t just put them out by myself because again they were meant for him but they’re really good songs, it’s good quality music.” {Source}

All the talk as of late of a new Michael Jackson material has left me dually excited (unheard MJ tracks), yet somewhat sceptical (due to potential exploitation). However, I’m sure many wouldn’t be averse to hearing the Ne-Yo penned tracks in this guise; maybe on the inevitable tribute album?

Your thoughts?

    She won’t do it. So F**-O needs to stop fishing for publicity.

  4. Daniel August 10, 2010

    Ne-Yo is an idiot.

    Jackson “5”?

    Janet “I’m here to take advantage of my dead brother” Jackson” ???????

    Are You kidding me???

  5. ella August 10, 2010

    NO F****** WAY B****-YO!! Now please STOP trying to attach your names to the Jacksons and LET IT GO!!!

  6. Not Gonna Happen August 10, 2010

    I can tell you already that after being forced to work with Ne-Yo during Discipline Janet WILL NOT be singing any songs he wrote for her brother, if it was something MJ wrote himself fine, but she felt that Ne-Yo was being paid to pretty much re-write everything she had already written years before and she was not impressed with not being able to write her own tracks

  7. Carmello August 10, 2010

    Keep dreaming F**!

  8. ella August 10, 2010

    How gatdamn tacky. Get Janet to sing songs originally written for her dead brother. What the f*** Ne-Ho????? He clearly doesn’t understand Janet & Michael’s dynamics. They were two SEPERATE artists and didn’t share music material. They influenced each other in terms of dance & music videos but they did NOT share songs or any of that s***. SITCHOASSDOWN Gay-Yo

    JANET “I’m here to take advantage of my dead brother” JACKSON.

  10. Secret Voice August 10, 2010

    NeYo so wants to claim the throne of Michael but it was Chris Breezy the family asked to do a tribute to Michael and Chris turned shyt out!!!!!!!

    NeYo a** is just upset because he was part of that disaster of an awards with Jamie Foxx and others who straight failed at their tribute for Michael and Chris was the one that paid HELLA tribute to the point of people wondeing if that was “Michael” behind the screen.

    Neyo is boring and he’s annoying with his arrogant three lumped headed self.If you see him without that head,dude head look like 2 half heads are sitting on top of that egg head of his!Can’t stand that fake!

  11. BROOKLYN_JANETFAM August 10, 2010

    Janet won’t do it. Janet can’t pull off a MJ song just like MJ can’t pull off a Janet song. They may have been related but musically their not the same.

  12. natalia August 10, 2010

    it would be cool to have a tribute album seperate from the one coming out this year.

  13. lisa August 10, 2010

    @SECRET VOICE

    Your comment is right but I sometimes wonder whether Chris Brown was deliberately tributing MJ all the time so people would think he was the “next Michael” (which he will NEVER be). Every legend is one of a kind & CAN’T be replaced. Chris isn’t stupid despite of his idiotic behavior and he probably wanted to brainwash people into thinking he’s the second coming of MJ. #nothatingjustsaying

  14. lisa August 10, 2010

    @BROOKLYN_JANETFAM

    MJ could pull of LOTS of people’s songs, including his sisters but he wouldn’t want to since Janet’s music was much more shallow and sexual than he liked.

  15. SEAN2010 August 10, 2010

    DANIAL

    I SHUT YA MONKEY LOOKING ASS DOWN B4 AND I WILL DO IT AGAIN.!

    JANET KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THIS SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOU COMING AT HER?

    KNOWING JANET’S HISTORY SHE MORE THAN LIKELY WOULDNT EVEN DO THIS.

  16. FreshUrbanEnt August 10, 2010

    I DOUBT JANET WIL DO IT SHE STILL SEEM’S NOT HAVE GOTTEN OVER IT YET. AFTER ALL ITS ONLY BEEN A YEAR.

  17. futurestarDELUX August 10, 2010

    JANET WOULDN’T DO THIS BUT I WOULDN’T BE SUPPRISED IF THAT FAME W**** JERMAIN IS DIALLING UP NE-YO AS I TYPE.

  18. MJfan August 10, 2010

    JANET IS CONCENTRATING ON HER ACTING CAREER, AND WRITING HER BOOK, TRUE YOU.

    WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO GIVE MICHAEL SONGS TO ANYONE, BUT AS LONG AS THE JACKSONS HAVE WORK, AND KEEP THEIR HANDS OUT OF MJ KIDS ESTATE, I WANT THEM TO GET MORE JOB OPPORTUNITIES.

    MJ DIDN’T LIKE POP MUSIC PERIOD. HIS OWN SISTER SAID THAT, HE HATED POP MUSIC. HIS FRIEND/EMPLOYEE SAID THAT HE HATED BILLIE JEAN, AND DIDN’T WANT TO SING IT AT 50.

    THE ONLY MUSIC MICHAEL REALLY LOVED WAS CLASSICAL MUSIC AND SHOWTUNES.

    AND TO SAY THAT MICHAEL WOULDN’T SING A JANET SONG, HOW DO WE KNOW? MICHAEL HAD SEXUAL SONGS, AND DID SEXUAL VIDEOS. IT’S JUST THAT HIS OTHER SONGS RECEIVED MORE ATTENTION. IN THE CLOSET WAS A SEXUAL SONG, HE EVEN DID A S*** VERSION VIDEO, THAT WAS REALLY HOT AND SEXUAL. THE TABLE AND NAOMI CAMPBELL, DIDN’T KNOW MJ HAD IT IN HIM. LOL. REMBER THE TIME, DISPLAYING AND TALKING ABOUT HIS FINGER GAME. YRMW VIDEO, HAD SEXUAL OVERTONES. PEOPLE WANT TO SAY, MJ COULDN’T RELATE TO JANET MUSIC, PLEASE, MJ WAS SEXUAL, THAT’S A FACT. HE WAS JUST SUBTLE ABOUT IT.

  19. TheMan August 10, 2010

    Ne-Yo wrote “cant be good” for Janet and it was one of the hottest songs on the cd, but she did sound like Michael

  20. pop August 10, 2010

    I think its cool that he has respect for the Jackson Dynasty and Michael there King, Neyo knows good music and he did make “discipline” for Janet that was a hot track, it seems a shame to let the tracks go to waste and if anyone other than Janet does it ….it would be a waste. But my guess is stuff like this is only gonna scare her off, if he were a little more secretive and allowed Janet the element of surprise somewhat then he might have a chance of getting her to do it. Airing this out in media speaks to his seriousness about the matter or lack there of.

  21. ArtistK August 10, 2010

    I THINK JJ SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS… JERMAINE ON THE OTHER HAND NEEDS ATTENTION SO HE MAY JUMP ON IT.

  22. idrag4mj August 10, 2010

    PEOPLE YOU ARE OVER REACTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT WOULD YALL HAVE SAID IF HER RECORDED THE SONGS FOR HIMSELF??? OUTTA RESPECT HE WANTS THE FAMILY MEMBERS TO RECORD IT, IN MY HONEST OPINION I LOVE THE IDEA!! JANET JACKSON IS THE BEST PERSON TO DO THIS,OTHERWISE ALL THOSE POSSIBLE GREAT SONGS WILL BE A BIG F****** WASTE!!!!

  23. ELLA August 10, 2010

    Ne-Yo should focus on his own career right now and stop worrying about those songs that were “allegedly” meant for MJ. Everybody is using MJ’s name now in the press for attention and it’s F****** ANNOYING!!!!!! Supposedly Ne-Yo’s SHITastic videos for “Libra Scale” were Thriller inspired. Supposedly, Ri-goatna wants her next album to be like Thriller (What-the f***-ever), supposedly Gayson Derula wants a career like MJ, supposedly Usher will surpass MJ because he does view himself as “a one of a kind worldwide pop icon”, supposedly Lady Gargoyle’s over- hyped Telephone video was inspired partly by Thriller, Trey Songz considers “Ready” his own “Off The Wall”, Chris Brown supposedly felt soooo sad over MJ’s death that he started wailing like a 2 yr old and refused to finish his supposed “tribute”, turning it into some sort of pity party. LEAVE MJ ALONE!!! LEAVE HIS FAMILY ALONE!! NONE OF YOU GAVE A F*** WHEN HE WAS ALIVE (except for Chris). Ne-Yo even admitted he was hesitant about working with MJ because of his supposed “weirdness”

  24. john August 10, 2010

    JANET STAY AWAY FROM THIS…….NE YO RELAX BOY!!!!!!!!!

  25. lisa August 11, 2010

    Cue the DUMB ASS Chris Brown stans who will post in here like Chris Brown was a Jackson. He aint got s*** to do with this post. If you Chris Brown d***-suckers aka SECRET VOICE (who already started his or her f****** stanning on here) , BLUEKID, VA STAND UP!!!, GERONIMO DEUCES, JONBERRY, PLAIN AND STUPID
    get sooooo mad over Ri-goatna being mentioned in CB posts, STOP posting s*** about Chris in Derulo, MJ, Janet Jackson, Usher, and Trey Songz posts. You stupid ass immature HYPOCRITES!!!!! Chris Brown is NOT relevant to this post. I repeat, NOT relevant to this post.

  26. VA STAND UP!!! August 11, 2010

    Damn..ya’ll stay going hard on Ne-Yo. Why ya’ll so mean??

    Anywho, I don’t see why Janet wouldn’t be interested in taking the material he set aside for MJ. He is a hitmaker and Janet’s music career isn’t exactly flying high right now. When was the last time she released a single and it actually charted?? It has been a minute. Plus, her voice is a lil similar to MJ’s maybe that’s why he suggested it. *shrugs*

    Whether or not she accepts them is her business. I just hope he doesn’t give them to someone else, and I really hope he doesn’t use them himself. I cringe at the thought.

    Ne-Yo gets on my nerves sometimes, but I don’t think he meant any disrespect. I think he just want to offer Janet the chance to get back into the industry.

    Oh…but as far as the Jackson 5…um… I don’ t think that is the best idea. It wouldn’t be the same without MJ. I think that the Jackson’s all loved their brother very much and I don’t think that anyone is trying to use his name to stay relevant, as so many people keep saying. I just don’t think it would be a good idea.

  27. pat August 11, 2010

    jermaine and latoya would do this in a heart beat…janet not so much…and CHRIS BROWN fans…where do yall get off saying the jacksons wanted him doing the mike tribute??? usher was the one they called on for michael’s actual memorial AND the grammy tribute…chris brown did the BET AWARDS tribute…ha ha…really??

  28. Caitlin August 11, 2010

    I’m hoping Janet and the brothers do this. That would be very special.

  29. VA STAND UP!!! August 11, 2010

    @Lisa: He is not relevant to this post?? Then why did you mention his name six times in your mini rant and not even comment on this topic?? Clearly he is relevant now isn’t he?
    Yeah ‘we’ are the immature ones yet you are calling someone a ‘d*** s*cker’. Really?? Evaluate your comment and then evaluate your life and see what the problem is.

    @Ella: CB is still heavy on your mind isn’t he? I really think you need psychiatric cause you always bring him up even in post that have nothing to do with him? You always attack other artist . Damn do you like anyone?? Is hate the only thing that is in your heart. Maybe medication is the only thing that can cure it.

    waiting for another one of your many rants…

  30. VA STAND UP!!! August 11, 2010

    @Pat: Um…where the hell have you been?!?! Yes CB was asked by the Jacksons to do the BET tribute! No…it wasn’t the Grammys but CB’s performance at the BET Awards was a hell of a lot better than that mess at the Grammys! Usher was off that night and he did not sound good at all. It was another boring sappy as tribute, that lacked the main thing MJ was known for DANCING!

    Usher sung at the Memorial and Grammys, but he didn’t dance. Except the VMA’s where Janet slayed, a lot of the MJ tributes were boring and had no dancing. That is where CB stepped in. Everyone wanted to see CB do a ‘dance tribute’ to the KOP. That’s why BET was bombarded last year with complaints when he didn’t get that chance.

    It was MJ’s mother Catherine Jackson was the one who persuaded the BET founders to let CB do the tribute that he was supposed to do last year. Jermaine Jackson said it in an interview with Extra and Bob Johnson said after the controvery following CB’s performance.

    Jermaine Jackson was also the one who made a public annoucnement in a press conference that Chris Brown was supposed to perform at the tribute they were having for MJ last year in Vienna, but it later got cancelled.

    http://cbs5.com/entertainment/michael.jackson.tribute.2.1169537.html

    Jermaine Jackson introduced CB at the BET tribute and embraced him after his performance. Why the hell would he do that if he hadn’t wanted CB to do the tribute?/

  31. lisa August 11, 2010

    @VA STAND UP!!!

    STAN ALERT………………….RUN FOR COVER!!!

    HOW MUCH DOES CHRIS PAY YOU TO DEFEND HIS HONOR. HOP OFF HIS D*** B****!!!

  32. lisa August 11, 2010

    @VA STAND UP!!!

    You CB stans are SICK!!! You’re always bringing up Chris in regards to MJ like they were best friends. Give me a f****** break!!!! They respected each other as artists. That’s it. GET OVER IT!! Not to mention that whole fiasco with Jermaine planning a tribute concert for Mike was embarrassing since Chris, MJB, and other artists NEVER agreed to perform. Jermaine Jackson cares only about HIMSELF and would invite any entertainer eventually to perform just so he could get attention. Katherine Jackson requesting Chris to perform was made up and NEVER confirmed. That was Jermaine’s request.

    I found a very interesting audio interview of 2 former $ony execs (they quit because of the record label’s dirty dealings). They give TRUTHFUL opinions about those dumb ass CB/MJ comparisons. It’s HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAOOOOOO

  36. MyWay August 13, 2010

    @pat,

    And your point is what? Okay Usher was one of the ones selected to perform at the memorial per the Jackson family’s request but Who was sitting directly behind the family falling apart right along with them & me, CHRIS BROWN! And Yes, Usher (who I like and am not trying to throw shade his way) was asked by the Grammy committee to perform NOT the Jackson’s. Come on do you honestly think the Jackson’s would have hand picked Celion Dion and Kelly Clarkstan (sp?) to perform a MJ dedication? The “Spammy’s” put that carp together seperate from the family. Now, the BET Awards performance was jointly orchestrated by BET and the Jackson Family. The Jackson family wanted Chris Brown to do the 1 year anniversary dedication to MJ. Of those who performed dedications, ONLY ONE was truly MEMORABLE and you know that!

  37. MyWay August 13, 2010

    Your comment is right but I sometimes wonder whether Chris Brown was deliberately tributing MJ all the time so people would think he was the “next Michael” (which he will NEVER be).
    ________________________________________________________________

    You sound ridiculous! No one will every replace MJ period. No one will ever replace Prince, Marvin Gaye, Barry White or Teddy Pendagrass either so your point is non-valid!

    Also, CB won his 1st dance contest at age 2 dancing to Michael Jackson so if he had the presence of mind at age 2 to “deliberately tribute MJ so that ppl would think he was the next Michael” we HOT DAMN, WHAT A CLEVER LITTLE BOY HE WAS!

  38. MyWay August 13, 2010

    I find it interesting that ppl who claim not to like Chris Brown can’t seem to stop bloggin about him. You fools are obsessed like that b**** in Beyonce’s last movie! Give it a rest! This post is about Ne-Ho trying his hardest to leech off of the Jackson family during their continued period of grief!

  39. *************** August 15, 2010

    @MYWAY

    That person was NOT saying that MJ can be replaced. “Lisa” was saying that Chris Brown WANTS people to think he’s the “new MJ” which he will NEVER be!! Learn to f****** READ!!

    Dr. Conrad Murray was almost tore apart by a mob outside L.A. courthouse. I would be scared to go anywhere If I were him. lol. He’ll always be associated with killing Michael Jackson. Fair or not, that is a career killer.

  42. Diana Rose December 2, 2010

    as someome who’s been a hardcore Michael Jackson fan since I was about 12, I was impressed with Ne-Yo when he first came out. I heard a song by him on the radio, I think it was “Sick Of LoveSongs” and I got exited, because he has a true spark of what made MJ great. even if it is a small spark. Chris Brown, Kanye, Rhianna, and certain other artists try to use MJ’s sound look or style to build up their own image. I think Ne-Yo comes from a place of respect with his music more so than alot of the other imitators. Besides, even Michael Jackson said he liked the way Ne-Yo does Michael Jackson, because it was less like imitation and more like complimenting. I’m glad that these songs will be on his Libra Scales album and I don’t thnk he should feel ashamed to use these songs. I think MJ would approve. I’ve heard some of the leaked tracks, and I love them.

Michael Jackson is a proven force – both in life and in death. Indeed, since his 2009 passing, the late great megastar has grossed more than $1 billion posthumously.  It’s little wonder, then, why the King Of Pop’s Estate are playing no games when it comes to use of his likeness and… Read More
