The X-factor 2010 kicked off in wonderfully wacky fashion tonight. Unsurprisingly, with this being the audition, phase, the talented and talent-challenged came out in equal measure for a crack at progressing to the next stage.
{For those unfamiliar with The X Factor, the show is the UK’s version of American Idol – with a twist in that groups and over 25’s are eligible to enter. Now in it’s sixth season, the show is responsible for birthing the careers of Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, and JLS. It’s US version is set to launch in 2011}.

For Shirlena…there simply are no words….
More generally; granted it’s the first episode, I’ve yet to be wowed (although Gamu turned in a great performance). This season is going to need to serve up a talent on the level of a Leona Lewis or Alexandra Burke to redeem the show from the atrocity that was last season. The UK houses much in the way of talent, however the theatrics and sob-stories which pervade such shows sometimes overshadow that. Here’s hoping it doesn’t with this season.

Unfortunately, they’ll never be another Leona for this awful show.

That was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while! I’m am fascinated by her, yet very frightened.
Katie, why sing the prerequisite song that everyone sings to show they have soul? I’m surprised she didn’t sing Respect ( that’s the other go to song). She sounds like Duffy to me. I kinda like Gamu’s voice but I didn’t care to watch the entire clip.
It’s really all about Shirlena, i may have to watch that again.

Just watched again and I think she thinks we all need Mercy…I missed that the first time I watched because I was sooo mesmorized by her quivering bits when she walked and those mystical hand signals that she shot across the airwaves. Simon was right it was a musical exorcism, for her and for me. YYYYAAAASSSS!

Actually American Idol is the American version of Pop Idol in the UK. Next year there’s gonna be an American version of Xfactor – that’s what Simon left idol to do.
